I dont install anything on our image All software gets deployed with Group Policy Best to do that, has if the program gets updated, you can remotely uninstall the old version and install the new one Only thing I do with our image, is install the the update including netframework, directx, IE8, WMP11, all the updates that are out Well thats for our domain image I also make an workgroup image thats for staff laptops, I include on that everything all updates, Flash, Shockwave, Java, Office 2007 With All Updates, VLC (XP Only) Foxit Reader, maybe a few others, cant think of any more at the moment

I would say setup him up with a mandatory with those settings Make the settings in an unrestricted OU, otherwise im gussing you will not be able to make the required changes. Once you uploaded the profile to the sever and renamed it to MAN, the stick it into folder the user was into before, and he will get the restrictions again, but with your required changes Think that would work

I have been having problems with a classroom full of computer which I deployed Windows 7 onto (You may know this, if you read some of my other threads) The Problem I have had is that when I was using a non Admin account, when I clicked on a program short cut that was from the server (Redirected Start Menu) It didn't launch, and nothing happended, this was even with a group policy object with nothing but start and desktop redirection. This same policy worked on a xp machine, so this was nothing to do with folder/security permissions. The programes worked from the local version of the shortcut that was in the start menu. So it looks to resolve this problem the shortcuts need to be on the client hard drive for some reason Has this needs to be done, I might has well get the mandatory profiles copied to the hard drive too, to speed up logons I created a MSI using Installsheild 2010 trial. I made it so it copied the profiles to the root of the hard drive. But the problem is when I add it to group policy, it keeps coming back with an error message... Said something like, does not meet any criterias Any ideas anyone? Would it be because it cant even find one dll or exe, like you would normally have in an installer?

Having been having trouble with Windows 7 Start Menu Redirection, I even created a new policy (No other ones running) justt with Desktop and start menu redirection. Works in XP fine but soon has I use Windows 7 and soon has I try to use shorcuts that are redirected from the server, the programe does not start up. Its fine lanching shorcuts that are on the actual hard drive. So need a script made Would like one that looks at the computer name ie ICT1-PC* ICT2-PC* COMM-PC* Star means it does anything after that, gussing you know that Once it finds the computer name it copys a set of shorcuts over, for example, ICT would have a set of shorcuts called ICT Start Menu. These shorcuts would be different than the COMM Room, has it has different software on these computers Thanks in advance

Anyone? Ok just made a new group policy, just with desktop and start menu redirection This is the only running one I tested this ok xp works fine But has soon has I use Windows 7 it gets that problem Its fine lanching a programe from a shortcut thats actually on the computer, just not from the shortcuts thats from the server Im finding this very weird Anyone good at making scripts? Could resolve this by a script has the shortcut will be on the hard drive not the server so it should work with no problems Would like it so it reads a computer name ie ICT1* and it will copy only the icons that ICT has installed, copys all the shortcuts from a folder called ICT1StartMenu

I just fixed the redirection of our start mene has it was not working when I deployed Windows 7 I had turn off user folders setting (Something like that) Major problem now is when I click onto the programes on the start menu they do not start up Any ideas?

Actually that may be a bad idea Means I would not be able to remove it using Group Policy, so lots of problems when we upgrade to 2010 Can someone do me a big favour and make me an xml? Enterprise Version Would be very grateful! Settings I would like: Full Features Everything No Outlook No Infopath No Groove No Visio Viewer No New & Open Microsoft Document Shorcuts No French & Spanish Proofing Tools No Language Settings Tool No Research Explorer Bar No System Information And don't remove older versions of office

Hey guys Right quick question Instead of making a xml for the install configuration (Looks confusing) for group policy deployment Would it be possible instead to make a msi that launches the main exe which will get the install configuration for the MSP in the updates folder I have already made? I will use admin studio to do this, anyone know if this will work? And do anyone know how to make it launch the exe?

thanks mate, i'll edit that tomorrow then about the system local is that the same, or do I have the that that number code if you know what I mean

on your region settings, is yours all usa? Seems when I instal lmy image thats the settings I get, I used the same wording has you used for the language settings

Never had a certifcate brought when we setup the server, so nothing to do with that Had a look at the logs, loads of errors with IIS Cant load the IIS on the server through, just will not connect, unless it uses IIS from another server? Dont really know anything about IIS

Yer had to do it all manually Kinda cheated in some rooms, were gonna reload a few room and all the laptops with windows 7 Ones that are not reloaded, we had to turn of the switch (Much easier than taking the network cables out) That was so the policy would not tell it to uninstall it. So then we could logon and uninstall it manually. Still was a pain to do that, couldnt be asked to do all the computers today. Just turned the switch off in two rooms, waited for it to logon and then turned it backon All the laptops are gonna get reloaded, so thought its not worth the effort, just told the teachers they will have to turn the wireless switch off, wait for everything to load up and turn it back on again

Ok guys... REALLY need you help here.... made a right mess I have deployed Windows 7 in one classroom but have got problems, thought I had all it working but has not gone that way I have created separate 32Bit and 64Bit policys due to start menu shorcuts that need the x86 added for the x86 programes on the 64 bit Windows 7 So we have Student, Staff and admin versions of these And separate xp plolicy has well So thats a total of 9 policys for users To get around having the right one selected for the different computers I created wmi filters. I found out that when using x64 which I have deployed, the wmi filter is applyer the 32bit policy (I used gpresult to check this) Also the start menu is missing from the students profile.. Not sure I have set that up corectlly. I have put all the shorcuts is the sysvol folder I also put the mantory profiles I made in sysvol, which I dont think is apply correclly, because the background is missing when I logo it on, but it does NOT complain that it cant find the profile and log me in with a tempory profile, so why whould it do that? Have I done wrong in putting it in the sysvol folder? Thought it would speed up file transfers / logons, has it gets it for all the domain controllers right? Also anyone know a decent program to do a bulk user profile path link change. Has I will need to change this to the mantory profile Also when I install my image it puts united states has on the language and region settings, it does have the UK keyboard set has default, thats the only thing that uk and the timezone too. ANy way to correct this? Have I wrote in the wrong setting in the unattended file for this? I put en-UK for all the settings for that. Many Thanks In Advance

Hi guys Right we use Impero Remote Software on our network New version has came out today.... finally.... Problem is, this was deployed using managed software So I decided to remove the old version from the list of managed software Now everytime a computer starts up that has Impero, it starts to remove it, but it says there, on that message I can manually remove it from the computer (Have to take network cable out, and reboot, so it doesnt start trying to uninstall again) Anyway to get this to removed? without going to every single computer and laptop Managed to sort out three rooms, but still have more to do, dont fancy going round any more

Have you tried Windows Deployment Services (WDS)?

WDS (Windows Deployment Services) Thats what you want to use Make an unattended newwork RIS file from the program which you can extract from the support cab on the xp disc Setup a computer on how you want it setup Then you can sysprep it and make an image using WDS pm me if you need any more details, be happy to help

Everytime I install it on the manchine itself, it cant connect to there server. Was told it had to accept some https links. So I this is the trust site in Internet Explorer. Still does work. This is where because I looked at the server that has the program on it, and those links are not on there, so not surpirsed that didnt work I'll grab a screenshot tomorrow to beable to show you the problem better, has I dont think im really explaining it well Need this to work to be able to deploy windows 7 in certain rooms, has they use it in those rooms

Hey guys I seem to have got my Windows 7 images working correctly expect this little bit I'm guessing there is an error in my unattended file, it works but would be better if this didn't happen. It seems everytime I image a computer with the image(s) I made it adds the United States keyboard for the second keyboard, which I dont want this happening, because it brings up the unneeded language on the logon screen, and the icon where the clock is. It also puts, Format (Think it does that one, cant remember), Location, and system locale has United States United Kingdom was defo selected before sysprep Have I wrote down the wrong value for United Kingdom in my attended file? It does nothing currenlly When I type in the ip address of it and press continue on the ceficate error it just sits there on a blank page (Has I said, its always done that, because we have not brought we have not brought and installed a cerficate) Yer i'm pretty sure it diverted to a link like you have posted above before this problem started I'll have a look and the IIS logs tomorrow and see what I can find Its annoying I cant use remote desktop to logon to the server from here, dont think it setup form outside connection, any idea how to do that? Always good for backup when Citrix doesnt work! Umm wonder if its changed its ip address, it shouldnt, has im gussing the server should have an static ip address set
