  2. Try wiping the whole list of leased addresses, that way whatever this is, it should find a new ip address
  3. Hi guys Need a little help here please Our Citrix server buggered up, was on Server 2003 R2. So I decided to install Server 2008 R2 and use the Standard Window Remote Desktop Server. So I have all the roles installed expect the Virtual Desktop Role When I logon onto the RD Web Access externally, it doesn't seem to find/connect to the server (RD1SERVER) from the Remote Desktop page Any ideas why this is happening? It worked with the externall ip address (havent got a dns name running, does that matter?) from inside the school eariler Error that come up is: Remote Desktop can't find the computer "RD1SERVER". This might mean that "RD1SERVER" does not belong to the specified network. Verify the computer name and domain that you are trying to connect to. EDIT::::: Ok I have now manged to connect to the server, It seems I cant use the name of the server or even the internal ip adress, I have to use the external ip address! How can I make this use the actual name of the server? And how can I make it so the name of the server is pre written down? and also make it so the user doesnt have to type in their user name and password again to connect to the server, has they have logged in already to the web interface EDIT AGAIN: Ok another problem, I have enable windows aero, but it doesn't fully work. It works via the normal remote desktop program externally tested. But its when I use the web interface to logon, even if I select all the options, aero doesnt work or I cant enable it Also even when I logon via the program way, on the theme settings it says 'one or more themes have been disabled by remote desktop connection settings' anything to do with it? EDIT YET AGAIN: I have installed Office 2010 on the server to test the remote apps feature, but same problem again, it cant find the computer So how can we get the actual server name to work instead of the ip address?

Gussing change the location to the drive letter we have mapped for the students then of course what ever folder? This way we shouldnt have to redirect anything through a gpo right? Is there any need to redirect appdata would you say, or is it fine using the defaut appdata that on the computer already? Many thanks in advance! Hopefully this will sort out our serif webplus! edit ok one more thing I would like to know Im gussing when you set a gpo for student restrictions it changes the registry of the user logged in. Now is there any way that we could find out all the registrys keys and values, that get set from our restrictions gpo. If I could find out this, i could import them into the registry hive of the profile. To me it just seems pointness that evertime a user logs on it has to make all these changes everytime. But If it was built into the profile already, its doesnt need to do anything and may speed up logons a bit quicker has well. Thats if you understood what I just meant
  5. Yep thats right, shouldnt leave any files on there to do with jailbreak eithier
  6. There you go mate, im afraid there is no group policy setting for this. Best but is to build a profile with this change So go to regedit, change the value to 0 and export it to a registry file and your all done HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\E nableAutoTray If EnableAutoTray = 0 then all icons in the notification area (system tray) are visible. Otherwise some might be hidden. = 1 means is enabled which you don't want
  7. be warned you may not get the speed that you go with, with sky The speed decreases futher away from you bt exchange Best bet is to go to this link here and you can enter your postcode and door number and it will tell you what services you can get plus what speed your estimated to get http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=29017&s_cid=con_FURL_infinity#noBT
  8. I will try this tomorrow too Brillant timeing to, about to update the windows 7 images Seems there are loads of new updates, plus the mantory profile doesnt seem to be working correctly with serif so that need sorting out to, not really sure what to do with the application data to be honest
  9. this is probrobly a invaild link now, since the forum upgrade to the new version of vBulletin
  10. now that already looks better than youthwire
  11. Hi guys Ok im fedup paying a lot of money for my virgin tv service, with an extremlly slow v+ box, just gets on my nerves. What im thinking, that I would like to do: 1) Get a basic sky tv service with all 6 mixes (price split with my step dad) and connect stright in a satalite tv card in my pc, to use with windows media centre. Only problem with that, I can see a tv card where you can slot your sky card in. I dont really want to use another box to use, want the pc to be able to play, record live tv plus be able to play some games, and large storage for mkvs movies. 2) Use normal arial and just recieve free to air channels and connect to windows media centre directlly 3) Use sky satlite and sky freesat card to recieve freesat channels and connect to windows media centre directlly (but again, you need a card, witch will cause problems) Sky free sat is meant to give you more channel than normal free sat 4) Use sky satlite to recieve freesat channels and connect to windows media centre directlly What you think guys, would prefere option 1 if possible
  12. Have you got a backup of the database? If so it's best to restore from that Personally I would have waited for 2.0 to cone out, that's what I'm doing, think we have 1.9.5 toi
  13. yep all done on mine stuff Done a clean restore on my ipad and iphone 4 Used the jailbreak fine! Just need to decide what to install now Problem we have now is we cant tell what is ipad apps like we can in the apple store and also what are the hd apps, for the higher resolution iphone 4
  14. i believe (not 100% sure) That is a computer object, not a student object, so it needs to be applied to a computer OU, not a users OU
  15. I ordered the apple bumper, got mine already, took a week I would say
  16. When we get back to work after the summer holidays, I going to suggest a plan to the boss about changing stuff. First would be to upgrade the hard drives on the intel modular server (integrated San), think we have only got 1500gb if your lucky Second would to get more ram for the intel modular servers from 8gb to at least 16gb? Or would you say more? And maybe better processors Third would to be upgrade our standard Cal to enterprise so we can get forefront installed and working as sophos licence has just ran out. Is this correct you get this free on enterprise cals? Forth would to be upgrade our standard 2008r2 licences to either enterprise or datacentre so we can have at least 4 running vms running on each server. I know we are licences for 5 2008r2 standard in the volume licensing centre, the easiest upgrade path for that? 5th then of course talk about moving every thing to vms. My idea with that would be have everything running virtual expect from the two citrix servers we have (unless that would be better virtual?) and the backup server 6th then would be to talk the possibility of maybe creating a new fresh domain??? Would this be worth it? Would need to tell him how easy this would to do it, for him to agree. Pretty sure our domain is extremely old, think it use to be nt4, 2000, then 2003, then 2003r2, now 2008r2. Other questions If this is worth it how easy would it be to move exchange across to the new domain? Plus at the same time, upgrade it to 2010 Can a new domain name be anything? What would you suggest? At the moment it is the same has our website ockendon.thurrock.sch.uk, same for the email accounts too. We would need to be to keep the email accounts the same domain, can this be done? Has the domain wouldn't be the same name. Plus for the new domain do, you actually need to own the website domain? Sorry if this sounds so stupid Thanks in advance One last question actually how hard would it be to migrate serco and sims onto one server? At the moment we have three admin servers (different domain) I think if we was to upgrade the newest server and install 2008r2 on it. Vm for sims and and vm for serco and the last vm for anything else like domain controller, dns, dhcp, file server etc... Also how hard would that be to create onto a new domain? So I theory 3 servers to one on the admin network (dumping two) Dump our non intel modular sever witch is our web server to a vm on the modular server. If we can dump the youth wire server, and make a vm for that, not so sure if youth wire will let us do that? So in total we could get in therory get rid of 4 servers... So in the end we would have 5 curriculum vm servers and one admin vm server, backup server, mitel mobile server and two citrix servers and one Mac server Umm still a fair few from 15 to 11 Thanks again
  17. Thanks managed to sort it now, just done it from scratch again, made it easier plus all the links were all wrong because it was on localhost, not the domain name. What u think of it? Untitled Document
  18. Guy This is fairly urgent (Needs to be done monday latest) Seems our Citrix server aint working, so will have to go in Ok I made the new school website on my computer (instead of mucking up the moodle install on our webserver) Now the head has agreed with the finished outcome How do I move the wordpress install on the server? On the computer I made it with, I went lazy and used xampp (ampache, php 5.3, my sql) On the webserver it has IIS7, my sql, php 5.2 Is there anything wrong using older version of sql and php? (Im assuming we have an older version of mysql now on our server) So guys any idea how to move it to the webserver?
  19. Can you please look at the attached document and edit it to what you think plus answer the questions in it and reattach it to a reply post or just write what you need to in a post
  20. Thanks alot - Office give me the parcel this morning, will have to play with this soon. Just a lot on at the moment (and i mean a lot)
  21. So whats the best way of doing appdata with the mandatory profile? After I made the mandatory profile (I did lanch every program to get all the appdata files made) Now everytime I lanch for example serifi web plus I get 'Cant find c:\user\student\thenwhatever' I have even loaded the registry onto my computer and removed the word student from the registry (Done a search) and replaced it with %USERNAME% Noe everytime I load serif webplus it says 'Cant find c:\user\%USERNAME%\thenwhatever' This is just with documents and desktop redirected (Start Menu loads from the profile) Any ideas? Should I just not open the programs during creating the profile? and then let it be running like that? gussing it should create the files needed when a student opens it on their user folder. Then there user folder will get deleted during logoff, has the policy clears this.
  22. So whats the best way of doing appdata with the mandatory profile? After I made the mandatory profile (I did lanch every program to get all the appdata files made) Now everytime I lanch for example serifi web plus I get 'Cant find c:\user\student\thewhatever' I have even loaded the registry onto my computer and removed the word student from the registry (Done a search) and replaced it with %USERNAME% Noe everytime I load serif webplus it says 'Cant find c:\user\%USERNAME%\thenwhatever' This is just with documents and desktop redirected (Start Menu loads from the profile)
  23. This is starting to annoy me! Loaded the registry hive onto my computer and took out the username that I used to create the profile everywhere in the hive I loaded and replaced it with %username% Now everytime I start serif I keep getting cant find c:\users\%username%\thenwhatever So the %username% variable is not working, how am I meant to do this then?
  24. yer its on the local drive, we had too many problem with profiles not loading from the server, that way its problery quicker for wireless too. So its a local mantory profile, also the startmenu and desktop icons work from that profile, that havent got to redirect that. But I do redirect the desktop, because for someone reason they can save and delete For the desktop i pasted the icture file the the root of the c drive, is that no good? It has to be where all the other windows default backgrounds are saved? (C:\Windows\Web) Is that what you mean?
