  1. Hi there guys Can you look at the plan I made, see what you think Don't really know about the last few on the list, seems overkill to have its own virtual server Just to add, has I didnt say this in the document, all host servers have 2x intel quad processors (can't remember what speed) Maybe in the future we use one of the server hosts for the admin network? (configure it with a vlan) Thanks
  2. Best way of doing it Make it so what every service or program has its own user account with only the permissions it needs (they dont need to know the password) Make it for emails for accounts login or whatever what you are signed up to to like a email account shared account See what right the admins have and see what they actually need to have and take away what they dont need (so they dont screw the system up)
  3. has long has it hasent got the proxy settings changed in it, it shouldnt be the problem how extually is the users gpos setup One for staff? One for students? Do you a remote system to get into your servers? If so and if your allowed, make me a temp user account that can edit gpos and i'll have a proper look at what you got, im pretty good at working with gpo's
  4. right, i know great place Cable Braid at great prices from Watercooling UK If you go on the forum their and type in braiding in the search boc, there will be guides on how to do it
  5. yer it does come with 2008r2, sorry forgot you said that is your first post
  6. backups make sure you have a full backup! Thats all I say you need
  7. umm best maybe install gpmc (unless you got it already) That way you can click on each gpo and it will tell you all the settings appiled on that gpo, that way you may find something in one of them
  8. We had this on a certain set of laptops the other day We only have one network throught, the one set on the user profile box We counldnt figure out we it was doing it, it was working fine on another set of laptops (different model through) so it was nothing to do with the gpo settings and the windows 7 image So luckly I said to the person fixing it, to try updating the wireless card drivers, fixed fine after that! So maybe the updating your network card drivers Best thing I can think off
  9. I had this problem the other day actually, but not with the default domain policy I had two policys for the students (Was recreating one with all the windows 7 settings, no settings for xp, has we just got rid of the last xp computers, thank god, much easier to manage!) When I was remaking the setting, I had both gpos open, once I decided a setting was not needed or was enabled on the new one, i took the old one and made it the deafault setting. Now when I done this for the proxy settings, everyone could not get on the internet because it was not applying, so the old one was still overtaking. So have you got any other gpos for the staff and students? That could be affecting it, like it did for me Hope that helps
  10. Works much faster, if the server is down that has that installed, no one can use lexia then. We just installed it onto our windows 7 image, dont have to worry our long it takes to install during bootup. I have installed all the software onto our image. When updates come along, i'll use deploy that through group policy. Then when I update and reimage the computers on the next time, I'll just take that off the group policy. Best way of deploying I reckon! ]]That way also when you reimage a pc, you dont have to wait ages for it to install all the managed software
  11. why repackage it? If its version 6 or 7 of the software, there is a msi package you can download on their site
  12. another procurve vote here all our switches are procurve make sure when you buy on you get a managed one or you done get the web interface of cli I believe The managed one are generally the models with the 'g' at the end
  13. Is there some sort of print software that we can install on a librarian pcs with see can approve and disapprove print jobs from the networked printer in the library At the momment the librarians have made it so student have to send their work to the librarys email address. We were told to make the print non networks because we keep getting a load of uncliamed work and loads of copies of them when they didn't go throught and they keep pressing print. Free would be great!
  14. Best bet is to not activate your image and then when you deploy the image you can activate it after with the oem keys, shouldn't matter what type of licence you use with an image.
  15. Dos It is the case because windows mobile uses Windows CE kernal has noted here Windows Mobile - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I hope you realiase that it aint easy to install windows ce, you have to like build an image to install it plus include drivers on it I believe Hope that helps

  25. Hi there Steve, welcome to edugeek! Everyone's most likely gonna recomment moodle Moodle.org: open-source community-based tools for learning But depends if you school has money to spend on it (If we are talking about a school here?) If so I recommend you look at frog vle Frog Learning Platform | The UKs most advanced Learning Platform I wanted our school to use frog, but they said it was too expensive still dont like moodle much (likely I dont have to really deal with it) Most people lik it its just me
