We've just installed it here a week or two ago. It seems OK - though it does require the work to be stored on the C: drive of the PC where it is being designed so that it can replicate to the other display units. We've had a funny with it hanging on one person's login - but that may just be a profile issue as its OK for other people. If you want to know anything specific - feel free to PM me.

Yeah - if its just one user - LogMeIn is a fantastioc bit of free kit.

Providing they own the laptop then it's legal. If it's a school computer they're using for work then AFAIK at that point they (and inherently the school) are in breach of copyright as soon as they copy/download the music onto the laptop. Why? I don't see why it changes the legality of what they're doing. Do you have any case law to back this up? I think you are right Steve - there is no "fair use" exception in this country - all "ripped" music and video is illegal whether you own the CD or not.

Assuming you have 2003 or similar, turn on File Auditing in the Advanced Security options on the share. You'll then need to wade through the Event Log or employ something like System Change Log from Greyware - we did this after a teacher was "tidying up" everybody else's files on a shared area. As stated - if your security is set up right - you will just prove that someone logged on as that child deleted them - then you need CCTV cameras too!

Do they taken broken kit - or just working?

Hi Dose anyone have any experience using a biometric (fingerprint) registration system with their MIS system (preferably CMIS). We would like to investigate it - but are finding it difficult to find anyone with prior experience in the field. Thanks

We're all IBM/Lenovo - and we've noticed a significant degrade in kit quality/service since the transition to Lenovo, to the point that we will not be considering them in the refresh program.

I'd say that CMIS is more a beginning point than a finished system. As stated the database design is a mess and the UI is dodgy - but on the other hand you can configure it - add fields and alter screens. The web front end is OK - and the memory issues are sorted now. We have found suppor tto be awfully slow, but perhaps we are unlucky. The patches need to be tested - but the application of them is very simple and quick. I still think you need a proper dba to get the best out of it.

You can do some good work - I was an RNIB volunteer for many years - but I got a bit hacked off after a visit to their HQ - not just the huge foyer with fountains and water feature - but the woman who was showing me round talking about how she had flown up from London that morning (to Peterborough) because it was so much better than driving. Ditto - its dead easy

We used something similar (TerminatorX) - very cost effective - until the kids realised that they could get out using the Excel Web Query screen - then it didn't work anymore as the title bar showed "Excel" - we moved to Smoothwall - and its doing a pretty good job - it was a bit tricky to set up initially - bit its pretty easy to keep on top of.
