Anyone recommend a real cheapo broadband package - my Dad wants to get it but won't pay much - he'll be a very light user - so restrictions are fine - he's seen the Talk Talk deal - but you hear so many bad things about it, I'm trying to find something a bit bertter - but not much more expensive...

We're still working hard - deployed DiskNet Pro, AVG AV on everything, Smoothwall Corporate, Backup Exec 11 - but still having probs with that, rebuilt 7 of the servers and are half way through deploying the latest builds to all the 450 PCs. And this is our quiet time of year - Sheesh!

No...but you can say words to the effect that if the user clicks OK to continue that they accept the terms of the AUP that is on the walls in all computer suites, in their student handbook or in their staff handbook - so no one has the excuse that they didn't know that there was an AUP.

I had 2 DCs (server1 & server 3 - all servers run 2003 SP2). I've just dcpromo'd a member server (server5) and installed DNS. On the original 2 DCs, when you open the DNS MMC, you see (well it was nicely indented when I wrote it - how the devil do you put a tab in?? :x ) DNS server1 Forward Lookup Zones _msdcs. dc (contains all 3 dc's) domain gc (contains 2 gc's) pdc (contains 1 PDC) .local _msdcs (contains NS records for original 2 servers) _sites _tcp _udp DomainDNSZones ForestDNSZones .sch.uk Reverse Lookup Zones Server3 All above repeated On the new DC, server5, when you open DNS - you only see server5 with all the stuff above replicated... 2 questions - 1 - Why do you see both servers in DNS on the original DCs, and not the new one as well, and likewise - why don't you see the original servers on the new DC - which is "correct"? 2 - Is the _msdcs folder under the .local branch supposed to be there - and if it is - why doesn't it show the new DC as an NS? Its my intention to demote server3 soon, so I'm keen to make sure everything is OK before the demotion. Thanks

OK - we run CMIS on SQL2000 (on Server 2003). The SQL is installed on a partition that I need to eliminate (E:). The data is stored on a separate partition (G:). Can anyone give an idiots account of the best way to proceed, so I don't lose the data? I intend to ring Serco - but its always a lottery with them on the quality of support , so I'd like to hear your thoughts before I start. I assume I can reinstall SQL on a fresh partition (different drive letter), and then, some how "reattach" all the data - but I haven't a dooly blue where to start with this one. Any help gratefully received... :?

I used to let them set their own passwords - but when they found that no one could remind them of what it was - it became a sport to see who could come up to IT and get it reset the most times - I frequently had 70-80 students a day turning up. I asked to charge a 50p fine for resetting them, but got so much agro from finance and the SEN lot that had to give that up. So I went for pre-set passwords, with a list that teachers could look up - I did it by grepping out 7 letter words from a dictionery file into a spreadsheet of the login id's and then bodging the spreadsheet to contain the command line instructions for setting the passwords, save as a text file, change to a bat and run it. Then teachers let the kids use the PCs on their logins and the list got nicked. Now we've reset again - but nobody gets the list. More hassle

It'd be easier to manipulate the data in XL or similar while still in CSV format and then create the users

Do you have multiple users doing bulk imports? I just bought a single license.

This is pretty much what I did - though in the Advanced Find in ADUC - you can grab all the users and move them - it takes a flippin long time though (at least it did on our system...) - Here are my "crib" notes for when I did it - Notes for Exchange Server Move Note the IP/WINS info on the old server Exchange Server Manager – note the SMTP details Check & note the Recipient Policies – these act as the defaults for new users, the SMTP one should be @..sch.uk Install Exchange on the new server Move the mailboxes from old server to new server – easiest through ADUC – find the Exchange Mailbox objects and select and move – this will take some time – double check that they have transferred without error. Refind in ADUC – should see the location now set as new server Don’t take the System and SMTP mailboxes Old server is currently the “bridgehead server” – this is the equivalent of being the PDC. Need to move this role to new server – see KB 822931 Hope thats of some help 8O
