  1. Now we need one before they can vote!
  2. Hopefully this is what you're after - you'll have to bodge it to fit your server names...inetlogger.zip
  3. Get a PC with a big hard drive and stick a TV tuner card in that can pick up Satellite (I've a Haupauge HVR3000 at home - its tri-band - analogue, digital and satellite) and use that - or have a look at the Topfield recorders which are top notch.
  4. Anybody got any good sites on how to lock down Firefox?
  5. You could try Ashby from nr Northampton - http://www.ashbycomputers.net/ They take a pride in their work
  6. Hi Just wondering if anyone was successfully using biometrics for registration with CMIS/eportal and how successful it was/who provided it etc. Cheers
  7. I rate their Firewall for home use - better than Zonealarm imho
  8. I spoke to Neil Atkins at Ramesys about this - he was very helpful...
  9. We have it switched on - doesn't seem to adversely affect the server - though its only used very rarely - I've been glad of it when it has been required.
  10. Here's another interesting link from The Guardian http://politics.guardian.co.uk/publicservices/story/0,,2242063,00.html Not sure whether its funny or depressing...or both...
  11. Nice one I tried something similar years ago for MCSE training - when it was cheaper to fly out to South Africa or India and stay there to do the course, than it was to drive to Birmingham to do it. Even though it saved a couple of thousand quid - the company wouldn't allow it
  12. Did anyone watch that "What Britain Earns" that was on last week? Even I was a bit surprised when they were asking people "How much would you have to earn, to be in the top 10% of earners in the UK?" Everyone interviewed overestimated this by miles - the correct answer... £46,000 So 9 out of every 10 people in the UK earn less than 46k - kind of puts those teacher salaries into perspective - dunnit.
  13. What about the 6 to post worrying that light bulb changing will be outsourced after BSF?

Shame! Why does my message have to be at least 10 characters??
  15. 15.33 and a top 50 score - yeah!
  16. We had a dicky nic the other week that took out an entire VLAN and our phone system and connection - it certainly foxed the phone provider - as we had to keep getting our BT lines reset to clear the problem until we tracked it down. We thought it must be a power problem as we didn't think it would take out the phone system as well - so we took 2 days to diagnose it.
  17. Finish today - tomorrow all day in the pub with mates - back in on the 7th. Merry Christmas to you all.
  18. Its not a phone number is it? phonenumber of stn in the phonebook??
  19. I'd always suggest a solid educational qualification - because it gives you options in the future. Specific IT quals are great - BUT - they are specific and date pretty quickly, and will be little use if you decide you fancy a career change in the future - even becoming a teacher will need a degree and its sight harder to get once you've started full time employment. My degree is in Engineering & Finance - but it allowed me to get a job in IT when I wanted a change - I don't think an MCSE or CCNA will get you a start as a teacher or accountant. With such a high proportion of people getting higher awards nowadays - you're going have limited choices in the future without a degree - IMHO
  20. Wise words Broc - I got caught over specialising early on in my career, with a language that went out of fashion and then got caught again after becoming a manager and pretty much de-skilling technically later on, which made it very difficult to get another job after redundancy - you just can't win :-)
  21. Verily it is a piece of poo! It wouldn't auto install either - so we had to do it by hand. What junk! Bring back ExamBase!
  22. Funny - I've found it the other way round - always had women in my teams through the 1990s (though in other industries), don't think we even had an application from a woman in the last couple of rounds of vacancies for techies here.
  23. We've just got this one http://www.fasttrackroombooking.com/FTRBFeatures.asp As it does invoicing for external bookings and has a nice easy to see front page.
  24. AVG - and the Comodo firewall - works for me!
  25. IMHO - don't do it - its a thankless task and not particularly well paid, you have to completely relearn your knowledgebase every couple of years and when you're past 40 - you can't get a decent job for love nor money. If you're bright - be an accountant, engineer or a lawyer - at least they have a properly defined career structure.
