We do the ALAN exams and have been very happy with the Exambase software that is used - but our exam officer was just registering some students to take them - and apparently Exambase has been dropped for a replacement - just wondered if anyone had seen it - and if so - what it was like? Its a hassle as Exambase goes by end of October - so now we've got to schedule in some server work and messing about with clients in all the IT suites (I would guess)...

We're not laptop ionly - but I would've thought that the only way to make that work in reality would be to go "thin client" and let their laptops join a session to use the college facilities and block everything else. But I wait to be corrected ;-)

I find a complete disassociation from the organisation is quite helpful for reducing stress. Internal amusement at their insect-like pretensions helps too.. Mwa..hahaahah

I think you need a super mandatory profile to make this work.

If you've multiple usb ports - it remembers which you've authorised in the past - so if you stick the device into a different port =- you get the error again - most irritating.

Its worth bearing in mind that you are legally required to have your 20 days holiday in a working year. If that cannot be fitted in to the school breaks - you must take the requisite number of days off during term time.

There is no "existing cable" to the wall mounted connection points - I know I could bodge in extra extension leads - but that seriously degrades the signal - and I'm not keen on placing those little splitter boxes in every classroom - as they are another point of failure/theft to worry about.

Yeah - but those are all short ones (0.2m) - like I said - we need slightly longer

Anyone know where I can get decent length (0.5 to 1 metre ish) SVGA splitter cables so we can drive the projectors. Can only find really short ones which won't do as the wall mounted connectors are a way from the back of the PC. Thanks

We do a similar thing to Frazer - but find its easier if when you prepare the Ghost Image (or however you do it) - to join the local PC Administrators Group to the Local_Admin group - then as you say - you can drop people in and out in AD to give rights - though its worth saying that due to the way Policies ertc are applied it can take a couple of restarts to get this to apply at the PC end. Start > Control Panel > User Accounts Select Advanced tab Select Advanced Select Groups Join the Administrators group to the unity\Local PC Admin group

You could always do it the quick and dirty way - grab the usernames into an XL spreadsheet, then add "net user" before the usernames and the new password after, so you end up with net user net user etc - export as text, change the .txt to a .bat and run it on the DC - jobs a good un. To run it on a workstation - think you have to add a "/" at the end.
