This is what we were doing until recently (even though it makes my teeth ache as a proper Network Manager - then some wonderful teacher left their station logged in, kids nicked the lists off the teacher area - and lo all hell broke loose. Cue a miserable couple of weeks for resetting 1400 passwords and dealing with the barrage of calls and visits about students who don't know their passwords - argghh. I'm looking for a way to make it harder for them to get/change their passwords - as stroppy kid says to teacher "Can't remember me password", teacher kid spot this as code for "let me go off and wander about for half an hour or I'll be a pita in your lesson", kid is dispatched to tech support, where they arrive after a fag, snog and wander, disrupt us for a minute or two, and they a slow stroll back in time to collect their bag. Or praps I'm just getting cynical... :?

Funnily enough - I've just spent 3 weeks in hospital - ugh - and the first poster is pretty accurate - nurses don't seem to do washing of patients, or bedpans etc - thats left to the Health Care Assistants (skivvies), as the nurses do have other skills that are needed. The staffing level on a ward of 30 people was 2 + 2 (ie 2 nurses and 2 HCAs) and often they were working a "long" shift - 7am til 9:30pm - and they hardly stopped all day. Puts our jobs in perspective doesn't it?

I rather like 1940s Jump Jive - people like Louis Jordan - good fun. What I noticed was that music became just less "important" to me as I breached 40+ - I still like listening - but I'm not so passionate about it. Noticing a similar trend in my younger friends too. Still must get off to my allotment... ;-)

Only do the teacher training if you really fancy the idea of teaching - from what I've seen - it does horrible things to people who do it but don't like it.

Without being at the server - think you need to "Inventory" the tapes to see what is on there.

Just a heads up - we've been having problems with Logmein again over the EMBC these last few days - yesterday an EMBC support person told me that it had been banned across the region as a proxy anonymiser site(??) - so if we wanted to keep using it - it would need to be added to our local allow list - which I did (we already lock it down to students in other ways) and its OK now. Just thought it might help other people who use it in the EMBC region.

If they pull the cable at the right time (ie after the mandatory profile has gone down, but before the rest of the login completes) they are able to login locally and appear to get full control of the PC - any working resolutions to this would be very much appreciated...

I've got it scripted up with AutoIT, which only took a few minutes to do, then run the AutoIT exe during machine startup from a GPO - it was quite easy (after I'd sorted out the mistake I made with the permissions on the folder )

Hi Just starting to write scripts using AutoIT to install some software (ExamBase KS3 Testing client) - it works fine if I call it from the client PC whilst logged in as administrator, but I would like to automate the process on a suite of PCs - whats the easiest way to achioeve that? Thanks

Grey trousers, black shoes and dark polo shirt - but they would like me to wear a suit - but I've no desire to be up to my elbows in printer toner in my expensive clothes. I worked in a big multinational before this job and there was no dress code there at all - was quite surpised to be interviewed by someone in T shirt & jeans - must say it didn't diminish our professionalism in any way - I'd sooner jeans etc if it were allowed.

I was thinking of buying an ELC subscription to some of the online Oxford reference stuff, when by chance I noticed that through a scheme with local libraries, nearly everyone who has a library card gets free access to the following Oxford English Dictionary, Encyclopedia Brittanica, Grove Art Online, Grove Music Online, Infotrac (online search of newspapers), Oxford Dictionary of Biography, Oxford Online Reference, WorldBook and XreferPlus (love the Concept Map function in this). Thought it might be something you could use (and save some money on) - I had to search through the local (Northants) library website to get the links - but it only took a few minutes.

I'd second that - I got the usual email with the download login - but there were just a few manuals and the DocStorage install?? Haven't had time to chase them - and waiting to see if it still causes problems...

Seconded - ~NetOp was awful - never worked properly - AB is a cracking bit of kit - though haven't tried it in TS though
