Group policy will apply on every second login only
fred54 replied to fred54's topic in Windows Server 2008
Yeah, I have run the gpresult /r and it shows that the single gp assigned is applied - the gpresult is the same when the PC logs in both correctly and incorrectly. Like you I had figured the "Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" setting was the problem but enabling or disabling it makes no difference to the outcome. (GP forcibly updated on PC after every change). I may have to begin the GP build from scratch as I am quickly running out of ideas -
For Windows 7 I created a mandatory profile and used a group policy for restrictions, desktop shortcuts, start menu etc. During testing using two accounts, without fail they will only apply group policy on every second login. I have tried amending the group policy - switching on and off the setting to 'always wait for the network at computer startup and login' (Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\System\logon) but it is still the same problem. The event log on the client tells me that 'Folder Redirection policy application has been delayed until the next logon because the group policy logon optimization is in effect.' When I remove the profile from the account properties on AD it will log in OK but the profile is less than 3mb - surely not too big? My internet searches have yielded no fixes - help please!!!

Having problems with Windows update on 2008. Happening across three servers with 2008 and returning an error 'windows could not search for new updates error code 8024402f'. I have searched the net for a solution but none of the links cured the problem. I have removed the firewall and antivirus and tried it but still no good. I have used the command line tool to ensure the microsoft update was looking at the correct proxy settings. The internet is working ok on the servers and I can ping the gateway OK. Thanks in advance

Hi Starting to use WDS and am creating a deployment image for XP SP3 clients. I am using sysprep to prepare the PC and I want to create an automated install. This seems to be OK but how do I get the deployment to ask for a computer name? Can I get it to select from a list or is sysprep the wrong tool to use? Thanks

Hi All Just put in a single broadband connection for staff purposes (our LEA provided connection filters good educational stuff, youtube etc). It will be connected to a single isolated PC but in order to reassure management that it will not be abused I want to generate monthly activity reports showing all activity on that connection. I had asked the ISP (one of the biggies) about producing reports at their level so that if anyone connected wirelessly or connected their own laptop I would still get a report of sites visited, however I was told that it was not possible for them to give me a report of sites visited on that connection! Correct me if I'm wrong but I always believed that ISPs could do this. As it is only a single machine a proxy server does not seem practical. As getting the information from the ISP seems to be a non-starter does anyone know of another solution that would record the sites visited on the connection rather than the machine it is connected to? Thanks

Store Desktop Under Desks? Need To Find Bracket
fred54 replied to stevenwba's topic in Physical Security
I would suggest buying a solid frame cpu holder as I bought ones which were metal brackets supported by straps (from Maplin about £15 each) but there was too much play in them, cue crashed hard drives - literally, when they fell out of the straps! -
I had a good look at the links you posted and Fraser's ideas seem to be based around no limits on the technology, no restrictions on internet, no security on hardware which I agree is how we should be using the hardware. The blog item also seems to be geared towards primary school students. In reality I have to work within an LEA provided internet service which is strongly filtered (no youtube, no facebook, etc). It seems to me that in order to make the most of Ipads in the classroom we need that freedom of internet access and security which we are not going to get. In my experience, to get our staff to embrace new ideas and technology, I need to 'hook' them by establishing (at least) one thing that they normally do which will work better with the technology (in this case the ipad) before reeling them in with additional features. Having done a bit of research, I have yet to come across anything which will fulfill the criteria I have which is: Use the ipad without the need for additional major expense in a classroom to improve the teaching and learning experience at a secondary level and where the argument that an average PC/laptop could do the same job cannot be used. I am not anti-apple and would love to incorporate the ipad into our existing setup and I remain hopeful that I can but at this point it does not look justifiable.

Hi all Considering the use of ipads in our school but do not want to do it just for the novelty factor. I know there are standard uses for it but just wondering if anyone is using the iPad in any original ways in the classroom?

Just to let you know I have achieved a resolution using "Me!ControlName.Locked = Not IsNull(Me!ControlName)" although your suggestions seemed to be the easier more obvious solution. It is bugging me why your suggestions did not work but I am not going to let that prevent from moving on with this database!! :-) Thanks again for your help.

You seem to have set me on the right path but for some reason it is still not working. I have placed the code as instructed but when I enter text into the cell it will accept it and save it OK, however it will allow me to re-edit the same cell again when I return to the form, but as you know I want the cell to be uneditable once text has been entered the first time. I also tried the locked = True and enabled = False to see if it would trigger an action on the form but again nothing happens, no error or anything.

Hi Trying to set up an Access 2010 database for administrative use but having a problem with one part. Once someone enters a piece of text into a cell, I want that cell to become locked automatically so it cannot be edited by any other user. The properties option for enabling or locking cells will not do what I want and I am assuming that the database will have to be coded using a macro or VBA to do this. Unfortunately my coding skills are crap and internet searches have yielded nothing. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks
