  1. We use Schoolcomms - I think its slightly more expensive than truancy call but I would certainly recommend it.
  2. The LA can only recommend what VLE you choose and can not force you as a school. We didn't go with the LA solution and setup our own sharepoint install with SIMS web parts. A lot of schools we originally went with the LA solution are now pulling out 2 years into the scheme. As you have mentioned - the LA will no doubt top slice a percentage of your harnessing technology money, but its more better to have a system you are comfortable with then to have to put up with something that in your heart and head you didn't really want!
  3. If you take a look on here theres a lot of schools who successfully use Zimbra successfully for staff and students.
  4. PM me you your e-mail address and I will forward some examples tomorrow. Cheers
  5. Yes its an additional cost to the the SIMS webparts with SLG.
  6. We had 300+ machines delivered in the holidays any issues we have had theres an engineer out next day to resolve (Obvioussly we have to ring them, he's not psychic!).
  7. Yes, its been around the block a few times but always worth a watch. Tony showed this at an Edugeek conference a year or two back.
  8. Just come across this, released today: RM chosen as ICT provider for Hull BSF programme - 14th BSF win for RM
  9. Hi Gareth I can send you an annomoised student report using Profiles 7 if this is what your after?
  10. We have two Nintendo DS's with the brain training games in our inclusion centre - very useful for our EAL (English as an additional Language) Students.
  11. Taken from the Fronter website: MIS Integration (7) Included for: Capita SIMS, Serco CMIS, Pearson Phoenix, RM Integris There are a lot of other VLE's that will pull data from SIMS: Frog SIMS Learning Gateway and I believe theres a module to carry this out via Moodle.
  12. As we were talking last week - I have the existing blackberry bold which is very impressive. I'll probably look to this newer model once my contract is up. If your wanting e-mail on the move this is ideal - other apps are lacking but I tend to only use the e-mail facilities.
  13. Excellent stuff Mike. Really impressive.
  14. We use SIMS profiles with the profiles webpart (at an additional cost). Gives the staff access to write the reports from home as well as pull in various other information from SIMS for the reports - Attendance and Assessment data.
  15. We do something very similar to Webman - but not for all students. Just selected students for use in their ICT course.
  16. Happy Birthday Tom

  18. We started a school media team a which included the creation of a radio station (mainly podcasts) and video footage to go on the plasma screens around the school. The students really enjoyed it at first and it last a year or so before the students left school or moved into exam year groups and the group folded. A lot of staff time will be needed to boss it as well as checking all content is appropriate before it goes 'live'.
  19. Heres a job advert for a Senior RM Customer Support Engineer - how much does it differ? Senior Customer Support Engineer, Leeds BSF - Leeds, West Yorkshire - Job: 45704746 - Totaljobs.com

  21. I wouldn't be happy for them to be up there. I would sit on the invoice until I was completely 100% satisfied although I guess your caretaker saying just put them up there covers the companies back.
  22. That happens to mine occasionally - I think it must be dust or fluff as a quick blow soon gets it working again. Theres ways to remove the ball to clean it which I tried on my Pearl, but never tried it on my bold now. BlackBerryInsight How to clean your BlackBerry’s Trackball
  23. Ive always bought the logitech ones here also. I can't remember the model which does not require drivers but they do exist. I'll have to remember to post back on here on Monday with the exact model if nobody beats me too it.
  24. Heres a MS hotfix Event ID 677 and event ID 673 audit failure messages are repeatedly logged to the Security log of domain controllers that are running Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 Also does that workstation have the same time as the server or at least within 5 mins?
