a search for rm admin password gives the following website as the 6th result: http://www.virus.org/default-password/view/R/1/ default passwords for as many pieces of software as they can get. Whilst i agree that it may not be best practice to list sites such as this, or discussing the default passwords, doing to serves a purpose; reminding people to change the basic password. The information is out there for students, discussing it in here is more likely to get the attention of NMs / techies so they can tighten up security. Listing the password may make somebody sit up and think "oh, i thought that password had been set specifically for us, i'd better change it."

There's also AD Infinitum which costs around £100. Allows bulk user import as well as creating all the directories, shares, sets permissions, sets exchange server settings, etc. I know there are free alternatives, but this does everything and for a £100 wasnt going to break the bank.

Depending on the setup there, it could have been pushed out from central IT, unless there's an IT Director or similar who is familiar with GPO. If its internal, ask them why they didnt consult you. The "upper management" was a bit vague. more details?

If a pupil logs off and ends session, you can't see what they;ve been doing in the console as that only shows real-time connections. However you log on to the server and run the impero log viewer. That stores everything for a set period (which you can define)

How many clients/server is that for? Who did you buy from? That was based on 200 clients Direct from impero.

graphs can be produced based on embedded list reports without too much effort. Not had much luck with the colour thing though, although i know it is possible. Watching eagerly. Let us know if you want help with the graphs.

Ok, bit of an update and a *bump* to see if anybody knows anything about Network Load Balancing today. Still same Ok, should have been Local Area Connection 1. The NLB was set for unicast. Also added rules for port 80; no affinity port 443 single affinity. Ok, so when i put it into multicast, the load balancing seems to work to an extent. I've used the following guide to set up. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows2000serv/support/nlbcontb.mspx The web requests seem to balance adequately, and both servers serve the pages. BUT and this is a big but as its the whole point of the load balancing, remote desktop does not work at all. This was because of unicast and is expected. Any ideas? Or does anyone have any suggestions for alternatives. I think ideally, a linux box sitting infront of the servers polling them to see which is busier and sharing the load that way. Or am i clutching at straws. Thanks in advance

Not all would be illegal. If for example the pupils created their own composition / played their own instruments (i.e. in music) some audio sw has capability to save into mp3. Once saw in a primary school they were doing the food chain and wanted images for their work. cue google image searches for: blue tits, thrush, worms, black bird, etc. All good. Lettuce on the other hand..... never seen such an interesting place to plant one.

I think not having a say on what their ICT staff (not that they will have any) do; set their own priorities for ICT; etc. would be a bigger burden.

I wouldnt have thought that the NTP service would cause BSOD. What time is your back up scheduled to start? On the previous week (before the error) what happens after 18:38? Are there many entries? Does the backup start correctly manually?

Schools would be a great place to work, and the network would be fine, if it wasnt for teachers and pupils.

Or i could just try: your child's name, your partners name, your car reg. or ask one of the pupil's you've given it to.

I know it sounds silly but have you restarted the server? If the issue that ldap wont bind? I had a problem with that, but i found that using ldapbind@FQDN worked.
