I tried one to string one along, but i think somebody else reported them to m$ (as it was a hotmail account) who suspended the account. Only managed to send about 3 or 4 emails.

is the email being recieved by your exchange server? i.e does it show up in the "message tracking center" under tools.

I know that it possibly opens it up as an open relay but the only way i found to fix it was to tick "all except the list below". This should hopefully fix your problem, but if anybody knows how to not fail the "open relay test" but still allow email from external addresses to be delivered i would also be very interested. Go to administrative groups - first adminsitrative group - servers - [server name] - protocols - SMTP - default SMTP server - right click, properties - access tab, click relay - what settings do you have here?

check your NTFS permissions on the server on the folder holding the boot image. Try changing to allow "everyone" for testing purposes

From my point of view working in education gives me more hands on experience of things. In industry they are likely to have a systems engineer, a network manager, telecoms engineers, web developers, email manager, a number of sys admins, software developers, DB admin, and then techies. In schools we tend to get to "play" with all these technologies, giving a broader experience than if we went in to one particular department in industry.

We had similar thoughts but that defeats the purpose of e-registration We bought a fast printer that does 28 pages a min. We have 30 classes. It works out faster for the receptionist to do the printout and walk out with the paper than it is to wheel the trolley with all the folders in it.

I used to be very sporty. loved playing football and watching it also. Now i only watch occasionally (usually England games) and havent played in over a year..... I dont do VB.Net . I tend to do c#.Net but it's all part of the same framework. I dont mind having a look, time permitting. I'm supposed to start my masters project soon in .NET so might be good as a refresher

Although it can be very quick to set up, if things go wrong, they can take a while to discover the cause. I would suggest setting up exchange and leave running for a few days, set up a test account or two, or change a couple of users over to new system if you can run the 2 in parallel, checking logs regularly, etc. to ensure that no problems have arisen. Trying to do an all-in-one change over could cause people to loose e-mail connectivity for a while and giving them a negative perception of the new system. It's hard enough to get users (especially SMT *runs from grumbledook* or teachers *hides*) to accept a new system when it works perfectly, problems will make that acceptance even more difficult to get.....

It might also be interesting to put a peanut M&M up against a chocolate covered brazil nut. It would be interesting to see if the crispy sugarcoated shell gives an advantage, and then we can finally crown M&Ms as the king of nut coated confectionary

Does your server room have air con. That should provide a good room temp. Just be careful not to get chocolate in your domain controller!

The final one might not actually be the strongest. If M&M:1 went through 20 other M&M's it might get beaten by M&M:22, which may have been weaker than all of the previous M&Ms but took advantage of the wear and tear M&M:1 took from M&M's:2-21 - or does being a lucky M&M consitute having good characteristics to carry forth in to the next generation. Out of interest, do you use the choc M&Ms or the peanut M&M's? Which is stronger? Get an AUP in as soon as possible. Generally it is accepted (and should be covered in your AUP) that school email remains your (schools) property and no privacy should be assumed. Obviously you wont access emails on a day to day basis, but should anything arise and the head instructs you to do check, you can. Covering things like hotmail is a little more difficult. You may struggle to be able to check those unless it is something to do with bullying and it is suspected that it occured in school time.
