I always thought that the best option was to slow down (gradually not suddenly) until the distance between you and the car behind is correct for the speed you are driving. The reverse would just encourage people to drive agressively forcing people to speed up or move out the way.

Usually i'd say go to uni get the degree especially if you want to progress further than tech. In this case however i'd say get the job and do the HNC especially if the company will support you. I think all colleges that offer HE course have to be accredited by a University and most then offer progression to the final / second year of the degree. This seems the best option. In the 3-4 years you take to do the HND you might be happy to take a year out to do the final year of the degree, the uni may offer evening classes for it, etc.

Disaster recovery - loss of key personnel

Ah, the old key exchange problem..... I'm not going to go into specifics. Look at RSA or Diffie-Hellman-Merkle -
Somebody could forget to sign an AUP or it could be mis-filed / lost. If they click to say they accept everytime they log on you are covered. Also covers you if anybody external uses the connection, i.e. external visitors, anybody else who might use it.

I dont think speed cameras are the solution. Changing drivers attitudes is what needs to be done. How often do people do 40 in a 30 zone, slow down for a camera then speed up to 50 to make up for the lost time. Not saying its right, but it's what happens.

I think it's relative, You could buy a low cost PC such as http://www.pcwb.com/catalogue/item/LENPC050 and you'd be lucky if it lasted 3yrs, but you could also buy http://uk.insight.com/apps/productpresentation/index.php?product_id=HPCA04ZOT&nbs_search=C%3D102%26S%3D1013%26lang%3Den-gb%26K%3D%26M%3D%264512v%3D1%26200047v%3D3%26SB%3Dplh and find that with a bit of extra ram it chugs along quite nicely for 6-7 years. I think the 5 years is a suggested figure based on averages. Best bet is to try and prove that the PC's you've got arent up to the job, or that the ones you are buying ae cheaper as they are lower spec and will need replacing in 3-5 years.

WTF! was this is senior manglement brainchild? -
Check with your LEA, somebody else may share the same subnet and have the other ranges. In this case i'd say dont try and do it yourself. You may cause more probs than you realise.

Especially when you work with their father!

That dont sound too good! I've not had any problems with ours, except the obvious issue with altiris and image deployment. We've got 130 currently in place and none of ours have gone bang yet!
-
Opening the case and removing the CMOS battery for a few hours does the trick. Didnt notice any way of them detecting that they've been opened. Anybody had any more success with these thin clients? I know HP have released a new image for the t5135 but it still doesnt seem to work with altiris, the new image does seem a bit better however. Still doesnt seem to make up for the fact the mangleability scripts dont work though.

Unfortunately it's pretty standard. Somebody is required to be in incase of any problems with other staff that are in. Most schools, understandibly, block holiday during term time which is why it is always a good idea to get your hols in quickly, i.e. first come first served. It does raise the issue of being forced to take them outside of term, when all 3 of you want them though. The only thing you could do is get union involved, but i dont think they'd back you on this one unfortunately. I think you're going to have to draw straws or share the duty, i.e. someone does mon & tues, somebody else does wed & thur, somebody else fri. Either that or make the person whose is least senior / been there least amount of time do it.

I believe it was a free email, e.g. hotmail. Very difficult to delete by yourself. Quite possibly the easiest thing to do is contact hotmail, gmail, yahoo or whoever, tell them of the issue. Ask them if they can disable the account or just delete it etc. as it contains your business name and the person using it is pretending to still work there. Then contact the person, tell them you no longer have access to the account and that you have requested it be disabled / deleted as it contains the school name and that it is not appropriate for them to have it. Let em deal with M$'s lawyers!

I'll have a try at getting altiris to change boot order but i doubt it will work, altiris doesnt see them when we switch them on, and they dont recieve altiris's wake-up magic packets. Back to the factory for them i think! Feel as though i've been mis-sold them. Only bought them on the notion that we could use altiris to deploy the image in seconds.
-
Anyone know how to reset factory images on the t5135. Got 2 clients i've knackered trying to push an older image out to. It won't boot to cd or usb. Think i'm screwed.
-
Grrr i hate HP phone support. Said if it's not a hardware problem then they cant help. Suggested i call altiris.
-
Yeah but i still don't want to have to walk round setting the connection settings for 160 thin clients.
-
So the only solution is to manually configure EVERY thin client?
-
Ok, so, a few months ago i managed to get altiris working correctly with a test thin client (thanks _ric) using the HP manageability scripts. Bought a shed-load of hp thin clients, installed altiris's most recent version (6.8 sp1) on a new server, can capture the thin client settings, but deploying seems to be a problem. Everything says the jobs completed properly, but none of my settings (namely the RDP connection ones) are there. Anybody had similar problems? Model of the thin client is HP t5135. Lee

150 Thin Clients which we cant even start putting in place until the building works are finished in the required areas, some of which are scheduled to finish on the last friday of summer, kids start back on the tuesday. Fun. re-image 120 machines: 60 of which we cant do in first 2 weeks as they are being used for summer school, the other 60 we can image, but then need to move out of the room while it's painted, then move back. config 18 new laptops and rotate 20 to other staff move CMIS and ePortal on to a new server bit of maintenance on 3 other rooms (keyboards / mice / etc) replace one curriculum server set-up an application server add all the new users we're also having an new office built (toilet converted) for us, so i'm moving out of my "office" AKA the cupboard. Half the staff are moving offices in a major re-shuffle of locations, so we will also be moving PC's, telephones, etc. to all the new locations. There's 3 of us. I also hate all of you with nothing to do. If you get bored we're in Birmingham!
