Kisageru - we think we may have the solution (only found out this morning) as we have had this issue. Log into CC3 with your sysman password and go to global settings. Select the system category. We have made sure that "Remove intel graphics mode selector" and "Setting to disable intel graphic card hotkeys" have a red "X" in the box. We have tested on two machines. Our machines still seem to change back as the projector as the primary display (grrr!), but as soon as the user logs in, the screen self clones.....

printer credit system works on SQL and they are having to re write the database due to the move to server 2008 etc. I have been told it should be ready in a couple of months or so.

Morning Guys and Gals, Just wondered for those that lease workstations and laptops with an agreement to return the kit to the leasing company at the end of the term, I was wondering what you use to mark the kit as we have been told that any marks on the kit could have cost implications for us at the end of the term. I just intend to get a Dymo labelwriter and create my own non permenant asset sticker. Any thoughts on this? Cheers AJT

SDC, thanks for the quick response, got to be honest my mail config experience is next to nil, we haven't manaually configured any client for POP3, but when opening outlook for the first time we point it to the the exchange server and the appropriate account? Even though this persons mail is forward to the exchange server, I would presume that a copy is left on the server so in the event of a new machine or rebuild, then the mailbox is pulled down each time?

Reet guys 'n gals this ones really pecking my head and I am hoping one of you can help me with this. Everyone in our school has an RM easymail account and we also have an exchange server with another domain. Our office staff use their easymail address which is automatically forwarded to the exchange server which, finally into their outlook account (which picks up the non RM domain mail). We have just given them new workstations, and I presumed that exchange would have saved a copy of their messages with their mailbox account. In quite a few instances this isn't the case and we are having to fire up the old PC's and export/import .psts. We have had a quick shooftie around the exchange settings and cannot find anything like "save a copy of messages on the server". Could one one you kind people please point me where I should be looking, or even a tidier more failsafe method as I don't want to keep running around backing up their .psts! Cheers in advance!

No worries mate, all the contacts I had there have moved onto pastures new (it's been a few years), but still resonable when it comes to Flash drive recovery. A couple of tips from me would be: 1. Avoid further personal testing of the stick, you may flex it until it starts reading again, but you could futher your chances of data corruption. 2. Avoid any companies who promise the earth or have bad experiences. One "bad" and "failed" recovery, will hamper the chance of a professional companies chance of a succesful recovery after that.

Good morning all, I am looking for a decent "N" rated WAP, for our working staffroom, which at the moment has two seperate "G" band D-Links. There are around 28 desks in there, not every one will log in at the same time, but would like to replace with the one "N" device that could handle that many connections. I love TP link WAPS as we have quite a few "G" bands dotted around the school and they were only around 12 quid apiece, but if their "N" WAPS couldn't handle that amount of wifi connections I would rather spend more money on a better more capable one if possible. Would love some feedback if possible, cheers! Andy T

I would use Kroll Ontrack, based in Epsom, they are very good - I was trained there and shown their "clean rooms". I wouldn't trust anyone else.

For our school it won't change, as someone quoted that too many schools are building the curriculum around the IT infrastructure which is the tail wagging the dog. The curriculum SHOULD dictate the IT infrastructure. So I predict we will remain status quo (ie physical servers and Workstations) for many years to come.

I would be careful of the words "famous" or "celebrity" as it seems to be banded around too easily these days. Growing up I was in the circles of Irvine Welsh with football,clubbing and raving days, pre football drinks with the proclaimers and "fish" from Marillion in the pubs around Hibs ground. I've met the infamous Glasgow gangster Jimmy Boyle's son back in the early 90s (who died a few years back). I have also met a lot of famous DJ's and producers who kickstarted the dance music scene in the late 80's in the UK. Gail Porter I used to see regularly at my local bus stop when she worked for B&Q before hitting television. Actor Jamie Sives who played "Chiv" beside Vinnie Jones in Mean Machine was the year below me at school. One of my old school friends who we used to knock about on our oldskool BMX'es started up his own software company, which then he moved into consultancy and had a lot to do with Rockstar North and a lot of input into GTA etc and an old classmate from primary has made a huge impact as a chef and restaurantier in South Africa after being trained by Jean Christophe-Novelli. Moving down south, I have helped out Martin Kemp with quite a few IT related issues and have spoken to a lot of Eastenders actors/actresses who have passed by as we were only a couple of miles from Elstree studios. We had all sorts of issues trying to bind AD to our X-Serve we ended breaking the link and making each mac a stand alone with a local generic pupil log in with a mapped network drive.

Thanks for the feedback, that was the next avenue we were going to explore. We are not migrating to Win 7 until next summer, so will send email out to staff to make sure PC is on before any projectors go on etc - nice one!

I may well do Glennda, unfortunately on CC3 workstations even as local administrator there is no way i can see the service or configure it!

Good evening, Just ran spiceworks for the first time on our CC3 network and one of the issue is that on my machine which is hosting spiceworks it picks up all the info about the machine. I have given a network username and password for the scan, but I think there is an issue with the WMI settings on the other workstations to allow the machines to retrieve their serial numbers etc. Is there a way to do change these via GPO? Thanks in advance for any advice!
