Copied and pasted with quotes onto local machine as a run command and it wouldn't work until I removed the first set of quotes (so we know the path is fine - cheers!). I have tried with and without quotes entered into the RMMC with no success at the logon. I am wondering if there is some sort of RM services or firewall action blocking it from running?

Afraid it didn't work either at start up or running from RMMC task failed

Morning all, I am trying to create some clients on a CC4 Network which will auto wake, auto log in and run a powerpoint on large displays within the school. What I have done, is create a new workstation type,user,group and location on the RMMC, basically referencing display. I can manage to get the machine to wake up and log on, but I am failing to get the machine to autorun powerpoint. What I have done is : With the "display" user policy "specify programs to run after log on" I have added C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\POWERPNT.EXE /S "N:\currentpresentation.pptx" I am assuming that this is the correct syntax. I am getting no error message at all, the workstation just sits giving me the virtual middle finger at the desktop? Any ideas as to how to push this through? Cheers in advance.

Morning All, I have a Dell Dimension 9200 which has the RAID card enabled when boots up shows two identical drives as (non raid drives), the first drive contains the OS and apps where the second drive contains data. To find out which drive was the boot drive I disconnected one drive but even though they aren't technically RAID'ed it still seems to require the two drives together to boot! The reason i'm asking is that the data drive is full and a new 2tb drive has been purchased to replace the near full data drive. My questions are.. 1. Can I just switch the RAID off completely and the machine will boot with the OS drive attached? 2. If that doesn't work can I create a true image .tib image, trash the RAID completely then re-image back to a single drive. I cannot work out why this is causing an issue as if its not as if the data is striped across the pair of HDDs? Any ideas welcome!

Afternoon all, Just wondering if there was software to monitor our workstations utilization, we are halfway through a "refresh" lease period and would like to see just how many of the machines are being used (if at all in some offices). Just something that would report back say a percentage of utilization on a regular basis so we can either say that next refresh certain zones don't require workstations or certain areas require extra etc. Not fussed as to what machines are being used for, just the duration throught the school day if possible? Shortly after posting the message, I got an email from QNAP asking to set up a teamviewer session, they connected to the NAS with a terminal session on PUTTY they unearthed a broken config file which has been patched, it looks like they removed all permissions from the folder shares to allow access. The drive array is still rebuilding which will take around another day and a half, but the data can now be accessed via FTP, ableit it's slow. The chap who resolved was Alan Huang who kept us informed via text box what was happening as he was going along. Quick and efficient support - couldn't rate highly enough

Morning All, I came in yesterday morning to find the firmware on my QNAP NAS Box ahad gone awry and I cannot seem to authenticate to the box or even access inside the shares. I have tried to update the firmware, but the box keeps telling me its not been configured yet but when clicking on okay to start configuration, the web console fails to open up. From what I can see is that the share folders seem intact and that from that the RAID configuration must be kind of healthy and I will presume the data still exists within these folders. I have raised a support ticket yesterday with QNAP and was wondering if anyone else has suffered this and how they rate QNAP support as I have never had any dealings with them before?

I have no idea - It can be as small or as large as they wish we would be more grateful of getting the space back that they are occupying at the moment. It might be worth noting that the clients do not have VESA mounting points. Athough I understand that HP sell the interchangable sides.

We have a HD Panasonic projector on our main hall, which we have two VGA faceplates fixed to the front of the main stage (for the choice of standing to either the left or right of the display). Audio routed to a 100v line amp with 8 speakers around our hall. We use an standard RM CC4 built laptop with a staff account to log into. We currently have no transparent proxy so we do not allow guests to connect personal devices to the network. We give the option of allowing the using a presentation USB mouse if needed.

We are allocating via the RM console to be honest, we have just found something interesting though. As we use the RM printer credit service, I have our site printers spanned over 3 RM member servers. As we trialled papercut, I had replicated all the printer queues onto a W2003 server a while back. I pushed out the 2003 installed printers to the affected workstations and these have seemed to appear without any issue. You mention deleting reg keys? We did have a poke around in the registry yesterday looking to delete keys, but it didn't work. Would you mind sharing which keys worked for you?

Morning, We are suffering from the odd machine that will just stop delivering printers (W2008r2/W7/CC4.3). There is a plethora of stuff on the web about this, but has anyone ever got to the bottom of why this happens, is it a registery issue/drivers etc, I still don't think there has been a fix or a workaround to crowbar them back onto a station? Any ideas anyone?

Its all horses for courses and everysite will be different, but companies have come in before for tendering and pulled out after I said if your system cannot handle 64 concurrent connections of Adobe CS5 per two classrooms with no lag then we don't want to know. I have to think of how much heartache the teachers here have gone through the last 3 years with the previous system. I have just now repaired teachers confidence in teaching with in these classrooms and to throw the dice again only on the possibily of doing something slightly cheaper or more "trendier" then that's quite a big gamble!

I've always been cynical about thin client and VDI, having been bitten once before with poor performance. I would ask, do you have to deliver a uniform performance around the school due to dynamic timetabling? We have just ripped out 64 thin clients and replaced with laptops as it just wasn't cutting the mustard. I keep hearing about VDI, at BETT, sales people raved on about it, spoke to some engineers who said avoid it at all costs plus I cannot believe its yet a full site solution, unless you have a server room bigger than a classroom. If its only a small proportion of a school, then I would ask why go to the bother, just replace with mid range workstations that will run everything and spend more money on virtualizing the backend. That said, I am visiting a school next Friday, who have VDI implemented (as to whether its a full site deployment or not is yet to be known). - I may see it in a different light lol.
