  1. Some great golden nuggets of info there, muchos gracias!
  2. Great stuff, will give it a go sometime. Might be worthwhile dropping this in the scripts section of the forum as it maybe of value to others!
  3. Hi Guys, Just like to say that RM have been absolutely brilliant and have managed to get to the bottom of the issue which was rectified in a timely and professional manner. I know that there are purists on here which don't hold RM or products in good light, but I think credit where credit is due!

    Snow!

-4 on way to work this morning, no snow and judging by the above map, we're in the green area so might get nothing whatsoever!
  5. We got our site team to remove the IWB's from those monsterous carbuncles of frames and fix them to wooden batons on walls, that way any short throw projector attached above will do.
  6. Hi Enjay, not found a solution to the problem as yet apart from move printers from a 64bit OS to a 32bit OS. We are a bit stuck though as as a CC4 network, all our servers are 64bit members. Our print lease runs out in 6 months and will possibly move to papercut and sack RM Printer credits completely (If we feel that follow me printing is for us). We ran a trial of papercut on a vanilla 2003 server and it worked a treat. The main issue for us is that the database behind papercut and the printer credit system are not compatable. The only thing I can suggest is to recreate new printer queues if you are in the same boat as us.
  7. He he no need for apologies
  8. Hi Rad, already had RM in for a remote session, they split my call up into so many segments, with the issues vaguely overlapping and we seem to be heading in circles.
  9. Will check this out, did you find that all these issues resolved themselves once this was done? With the slow log ins and slow mapped drive delivery, I have checked switches and they seem okay, yesterday I isolated the servers from the core switch to an edge switch and patched in a laptop, the build still failed?
  10. For what we save on buying on line we will eventually spend more on tax to support unemployment benefits. The concencus is that we "feel sorry for those that are facing uncertainty of employment", but the truth is we don't and we cannot until we start keeping the High Streets alive. This is the unpleasant side of technological advancement.
  11. Hi guys and gals, Since mid December our CC4 install seems to slowly degraded to a point now where we cannot build machines keeps failing at (installing additional packages), my connect is now showing the majority of users as unknown and its currently taking users around 5-7 mins to log in. Christmas eve, the power was shutdown for electrical work (which we were not privvy to the info), it was an SMS that alerted me from people trying to remote in. The 27th I came in to restart the servers and they shut down almost instantaniously due to the sockets that the UPS where plugged into tripped when the power was restored on Christmas eve! 3rd line and RM have been looking at this for a week and we are still no further forward. Anyone else suffer from this over sensitivity with CC4?
  12. Could someone recommend me a USB ethernet extender that will run USB 2.0 at a distance of 10 metres between a PC and a Hitachi Starboard. An oversight in room design has left us with a flakey connection at the moment! Cheers!
  13. I think that's the way it's going to have to be Geoff! thanks
  14. I do a great range of tartan paint and bowler hats with sleeves....any takers?
  15. Hi there, that icon pertains to PD monitor and as far as i'm aware, that service has to continously run in the background if you want to manage packages, just been through all policy settings, but cannot find one to stop the icon being displayed. Someone might be able to workout a registry hack, but I ain't that brave to attempt it here lol.
  16. Do you mean clear and reset together, yep given that a go
  17. We dont run any vlans here - looks like i may have to use the console/telnet system on Monday. I have however set it up and plugged it in but cannot test. Always a drama here, electricians were in on Xmas eve which I wasn't aware of, powering down for 6 hrs, which the servers ran until the UPSes ran out of juice - It only came to light on Boxing day when I recieved SMS that there was logging in issues via VPN etc. Reinstating the power must have a) tripped the sockets in the server room (which I didn't think had happened because the air con and everything was on etc) and b) Blew the original 2524 in a seperate comms unit. Great way to start the new year!
  18. according to HP documentation, it should deffo pick one up from DHCP, presuming it was shipped factory reset, plus I have reset it myself once again?
  19. We've already tried that, it doesn't display - we've checked through all the reservations as well...it's baffled our third line support lol.
  20. Hi all, Just had a swap out of a failed 2524 procurve switch, and i've connected it direct to our network, for DHCP to dish out a temp IP so I can then access the web panel to configure. The problem is that I cannot find the device in DHCP at all, the device works correctly as I have connected a laptop to the switch and I am able to log into the laptop using network credentials plus the laptop gets an IP from our DHCP server. I am finding this a tad ber-faffling. Apart from using an IP address scanner and attempting to log into every unnamed host on the network, has anyone else had this happen at all? PS I do not have a serial cable or a laptop with a serial port to hand either
  21. Could you please expand?I thought you should only tender if the value if over a certain threshold which is very high (a lot higher than SIMS would cost?).
  22. Hate it, hate it, hate it, hate the term, its a lazy horrible name for an object and everytime I hear it I want to floss my brain with barbed wire....
  23. Afternoon, couldn't decide which section this belongs in. please feel free to move... We have a QNAP TS410 NAS with 8TB on a raid 6 array and for quickness of a quick reimage, connect acronis to a folder via FTP and pull down disk images as and when required. We were also setting up the time machine service to create a back of of our x serve. Everything was fine until I updated the firmware and switched on the time machine service, but after that when browsing with acronis to the NAS drive we can see the parent folders and they are named correctly, but inside the folders its showing no files/or sub folders. I managed to get all critical stuff off the NAS, I have downgraded the firmware again (to the earliest available from the QNAP site), formatted the drives and the problem still exists. I have tried older and newer versions of acronis, if browsing the share via a windows PC all files and folders are there. Hope some one can point me in the correct direction with this, its pecking my head and may spoil my christmas lol. Thanks!
  24. Morning, going to post this here as I cannot think which category this fits under. My school had a bit of a nightmare with a past procurement of 64 thin clients/4 terminal servers and was lumbered for 3 years with them ( It was two IT Suites). It needs now to be replaced, but with a system that will run all apps that are available - even adobe CS4 if needed. At the moment we have gathered all student laptops and have replaced the clients - there is now something physical in place - teachers are happy. Our options to replace are : 1. Replace with 64 physical workstations (simplest method) 2. Virtual Desktop enviornment (only for this area at the moment utilising the redundant terminal servers, but needs to integrate with CC4). 3. Go with option 1 (lesser spec'ed) and virtualize our whole server estate. I'm at a 6 of one and half a dozen of another with the virtual side, but what I need is feedback good or bad on virtual servers or desktops... Look forward to your replies!
  25. Cheers peeps, looks like the issue maybe HGfL/Updata - raised a ticket will update it again, thanks again people!
