What version of Office are the users on? What type of reports are they running? Data intensive reports like assessment marksheets, or simple reports like class lists? Could be an issue with SIMS caching the data for the report in the tmpSimsRpt folder..

If you get LA support, may be worth chatting to them about what their plans are for SOLUS3. It's a slog to set it up but when it works, it seems to work well.

Are you going to be going down the SOLUS3 route any time soon? When you add new workstations to SIMS or FMS channels of the SOLUS3 environment, SOLUS3 will install SIMS and FMS automatically for you if it's not installed so it could be worth leaving it out of the image.

Forgot to say in my post (but sure it's obvious anyway) ensure the values in the SIMS.INI match your own environment! That was a straight copy/paste from mine.

If you use SIMS and FMS at school, you could always try the Equipment Register module that's a part of FMS. It also allows you to pull in any equipment you order through FMS which saves a bit of time. Plus it's there and ready to go.

Or for Win 7, right-click and Run as Administrator.

Usually means the SIMSInfrastructureSetup.exe is missing form the S:\SIMS\Setups folder as SIMSInst,exe calls other installers. As for the SIMS.INI, that gets created in C:\WINDOWS when you run SIMSInst.exe. As thats not working, the SIMS.INI may not exist/be incomplete. Running SIMS will check for upgrades and use the SIMS.INI to locate the setups folder. If it's missing, it may not run. You can manually create your own with the following to get it working: (Save as SIMS.INI to C:\WINDOWS) [setup] SIMSDotNetDirectory=C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net Folder=SIMS Applications SIMSSetupsDirectory=D:\SIMSAREA\SIMS\Setups SIMSDirectory=S:\SIMS Use the local path for the setups folder on the server. Once done, try SIMSInst.exe again and it should pick up everything. Failing that, just run SIMS and it can install any missing bits (like the SIMS Manuals)

Only a few of our schools have Macs and they all seem to use Parallels to run Windows, and therefore the SIMS .net client. If you take this option, be sure to set up Parallels to use "bridged networking" rather than NAT. We installed SOLUS3 in one of the schools and they wanted Discover, but because they were set up to use NAT networking, the Windows 7 parallels environments could not be contacted on the network (the Win 7 environment could access the network with no issues though). It meant that the SOLUS3 Deployment Service could not deploy the SOLUS3 Agent to the Win 7 environment and install Discover.

South Park - The Stick Of Truth has not even been released yet!!! I hope this does not affect it in any way. They've been taking pre-orders on Steam for months... At least Ubisoft have agreed to purchase it. I have faith in them.

They never really do, unless the actual buyer reports the seller for not receiving the goods, or receiving the wrong goods. I guess check his account in a week and see if the winner has left positive feedback...

the SIMS.INI gets created in C:\WINDOWS when SIMS .net is installed. If you don't have admin permissions/full write permissions (or if UAC is enabled on Win 7), this file may not get created successfully. There is no uninstaller for SIMS either which is great. To reinstall, delete or rename the C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net folder then re-run the SIMSInst.exe from S:\SIMS\Setups. If you use SOLUS3, you will need to manually redeploy the SIMS Workstation component of the latest upgrade form the Deployment Server.

If you are using SOLUS3, don't even bother putting SIMS .net or FMS6 into the image. Once a PC is built with your image and live on the network, add the new device into the SIMS Workstations channel in SOLUS3 and it will automatically install the SIMS client for you once the SOLUS3 agent has been installed and comes online. The same goes for FMS too. Down the line, if you have an old version of SIMS on the image, you will still need to add the new devices to SOLUS3 but it may not automatically upgrade it straight away unless you manually trigger the upgrade deployment to it. Manual install is like others have said, run SIMSInst.exe from (usually) S:\SIMS\Setups. Follow the on screen instructions and you can't go wrong. For FMS, run FMSInst.exe (usually) in S:\SIMS\Setups\FMS. Both installs will cover any prerequisits missing like .Net 4, Adobe Reader, SQL Native Client etc.
