Users should just access SIMS through the browser. As part of the setup Capita should have made available a VPN connector to the Hosted system. I understand then that there needs to be one machine in the school with the SIMS workstation software installed on it and that connects to the Hosted SIMS DB via the VPN. This then allows MISSync to work correctly. Obviously MISSync needs to be installed on that machine too.

Reg Group has to be the last data column in the report, you then have to set sorting to be on Reg Group and then you can tick the 'Group into separate sheets' on the Excel output settings.

Changes to Exams Performance Measures?
ajp233 replied to ajp233's topic in Data Managers's Data Managers Topics
The Spring Release of SIMS will have a new area (Tools | Examinations | Manage Performance Indicator), which will require setting up. It will give schools the power and control of maintaining their own PI data. Capita's reasoning is that the process of creating a Performance Measures XML file is time consuming and cumbersome, and if any changes to this are identified on results day, it would take too long to produce a new file. Schools will have to clone the 2016 season (which will include all QNs with results, including Non-EDI results) in the 2017 Performance Indicators. Each QN will then need to then be edited for 2017 performance points, equivalencies, A Level thresholds etc. DfE have advised that Performance Points for 2017 should be on the new Performance Points website by the end of this month. -
Why not just use the inbuilt Group Analysis by Vulnerability report??

If you make a copy of the RptDef file and then change the file extension to .zip you can then open up the zip file and extract the Excel template out and make any changes you wish to it. Once you have changed the Excel template you would then have to 'reattach' to the SIMS report. In SIMS go to the Define Presentations screen and select Standard Portrait to break the link with the embedded Excel template. Then click on Report template and select the new amended Excel template.

I did suggest alternative curriculum to them but it is the whole school that switch to the alternative curriculum classes at the specified period

I have a school who have been told it it possible to 'schedule' registers in Nova-T6 but I'm not sure if what they are trying to achieve can be done. The school are introducing a 'positive discipline' system that is implemented every few weeks and it basically means that for a particular period that week everyone is taken off timetable and instead of the lesson they should be attending they go to their registration group and spend the period with their tutor. However the day of the week and period when this occurs changes every time. Any ideas how to set this up in SIMS?

I used to do this sort of thing by having the column that needed to be coloured at a fixed width. In the cell on the template I inserted the assessment result tag but inserted enough spaces so before the result tag so that the result would never be displayed in the cell (due to it's fixed width). I then had a vba macro embedded in the template that shaded the cell depending on it's contents. I can dig it out for you if you wish?

ParentPay have some sort of rule that prevents a sync at the beginning of the academic year if the numbers differ by a certain percentage. You then have to phone them and they force the sync through. Apparently they have lots of schools in this position at the moment and have been working till late at night to try and clear the backlog

We used to have the reg groups in the timetable as well as the pastoral structure. I had to keep reminding the admin staff that as well as changing the tutor group in the registration panel of the pupil record, it also had to be changed via the student curriculum.

Personally I'd tell your LA to take a running jump....performance tables are based on first entry so that is all I would give them -
It can be a bit depressing sometimes following data people on Twitter.....you can come away feeling you are not doing enough in your own job

Hi - the attached is an RTF report I designed at a previous school. A bit fiddly to set up but once done it worked well - 8 cards to one page Student Exam Cards.zip
-
Glad to hear you did this. In my past I did the same....got the details of new Y7 pupils in Excel and then wrote a VBA macro to create a CTF file to import into SIMS...all good fun

When I was a Data Manager I set my marksheets up with formula columns to check that all required data had been entered. The final column in the marksheet was a validation column that went green and displayed 'OK' if all data for the student had been entered and red (with an appropriate message) if there was data missing. For example if one of the pieces of information staff had to enter was a grade then I had a hidden formula grade tally column that would return 1 if one of the allowed grades had been entered. I also had a hidden 'zero' column and then did a sum of the grade tally column and the zero column. I would repeat this for each piece of data that was required and have a final sum column that was the sum of the 'sum' columns. Therefore if staff had to enter 3 pieces of data the final sum of sum column should return a 3 if everything had been entered. A final (nested) if then else could generate a validation message based on the sum of sums result.

At the last school I worked in all of the students were entered for English Lit and were told that they needed to go into the exams and write their names on the answer booklet and then they could just remain seated for the duration of the paper!!!!

A number of years ago I moved from a SIMS school to an independent that was using iSAMS having previously used SIMS. All of the staff seemed to like iSAMS and I was very impressed with it. I would say it is definitely more geared to the independent sector. I'm now working with SIMS again having moved onto a new job

I take it with that salary you'll not be expecting to get anyone competent!!!

I had a similar issue and if the student didn't have a Lit grade their Lang grade was not counted. Some of the students had a different English qual such as an Adult Literacy and that was used instead for the English bonus. Would this apply to student 1 or student 2??
