Hi all The Outlook clients are on 2010. I've just run windows update on the Exchange server and rebooted it. The problem has just resolved itself! :-)

Hey. I've got an issue where I've got Exchange 2010, Outlook web access works fine, but some users Outlook clients are denied a connection to the Exchange server. It looks permissions specific. Anyone got any ideas?

Ok I have totally drawn a blank here. As its an internal server, I am going to make it unsecured and run in http protocol instead. Does anyone know how I can do that? Thanks

Hi all, I have a wiki server which is running on Apache Tomcat 7.0. I have inherited this setup so I don't know a lot about how it works. Recently the self assigned certificate has stopped working in Google Chrome and I get NET:ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID. Apparently this is due to a change in Chrome not accepting self assigned certificates. I have tried to create a new certificate in Powershell but the commands I have found online don't seem to work. Does anyone have a link or know how to setup a new certificate for this server which will work within Tomcat? Thanks J

I was wondering which companies are in the marketplace right now for Moodle - SIMS integration and come recommended? As well as having a robust product I am interested in their level of customer service too i.e. providing quick response times to queries and a good track record in solving problems.

I once sent some computers from my first school which was a primary to Africa. I did some of the organisation with a lady who was based out in Ghana. I was sent back some lovely pictures of the girls carrying computer monitors on their heads (in boxes) and the construction students constructing the new computer lab. I underestimated the impact this would have and was pleased that I went through with it, but a few people did try and put me off. However, that was back in 2004. These days it might be easier to sell of the computers and use the money to buy computers for a school in Africa. The cost of shipping my lot was about £1k. Paid for by fundraising. I am also concerned that the computers I sent out may very well be dumped somewhere now.

We had a SLT member who was assigned to tell off the senders of unnecessary all staff emails. This really helped. They did creep up and then went back down again. The best way to sort this is get an SLT member on side with it and let them deal with the senders!

Its one of the few IT jobs where you are guaranteed the Christmas holidays and you aren't expected to be on call or work though your lunch breaks. Some schools are busier than others to be fair and I have been in both types. It depends what you want from your job really. As Network Manager you get to do a little bit of everything, I have upgraded our infrastructure and even redesigned most of the IT classrooms with the site team. I have previously worked in a server team doing only server work and not really seeing many others so it is good to have the variety. Others may prefer more technically challenging roles, it depends on what you want from your career.

It looks like most school networks became unified from Novell, NT4, RISC OS etc into Windows Active directory in the early 2000's. This was when school networking really took off. I think the government might have been giving LEA's grants at the time to go digital and implement whole school networking.

15/07/2003 - The network was 2000 functional level built on 2003 servers. The prior servers were Novell from what I can see. Upgraded Functional Level to 2012R2 July 14 My previous schools DC's were built in April 2012 on Server 2008R2 by myself to replace 2003 servers from the BSF program.

VLAN issues are the silent issue and can be a PITA to diagnose any issues. I inherited a school with 25 VLans once... *shakes head*

I have been here, in the end the HT realized that Managed Services wasn't worth it :-)

Hi all, I hate to resurect an old thread. I am trying to update my workstations to the latest version of Java. However, it looks like Java have changed the location where the MSI and other files are unpacked. It used to be C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment. I have run the latest offline installer and it doesn't write any files here anymore :-(

mines on the first floor and it was handy when the toilets in the room next door flooded and the water flowed though the ceiling below and only soaked the carpet :-)

Haha someone beat me to it! ICT Technician Role at St Mary Redcliffe and Temple School in central Bristol. We are in a City Center location near St Mary Redcliffe Church, Almost next door to Temple Meads station and served by local bus routes for transport and we have a locked bicycle shed. Parking is onsite but limited to first come first served. St Mary Redcliffe and Temple school is an over subscribed Church of England school with over 1,600 students, the school was rated Outstanding by OFSTED in April 2015. We have two sites, main site on Somerset Square and the Redcliffe Sixth form center on Redcliffe hill. We are looking for someone with strong interpersonal and team working skills as this is a busy yet friendly school, if you feel you have limited IT experience please don't feel put off from applying for this position. You would be working in a team of 4 ICT Staff, 2 other technicians and Network Manager. Salary etc is stated on the school site along with job description. Deadline is Wednesday 1st of July with interviews on the w/c 13th of July.

Yes. We take in data from the LA by exporting this from their spreadsheet and we also add our own admissions which come directly to us. Maybe there is something we can do in SIMS but we don't have a Data Manager at present. We are recruiting though.
