  1. Yes, we got it running about a week ago for PDFs and then added the Microsoft Office support earlier this week. It's so good and easy! I really like the fact that if it comes from an email address it recognizes then the person still received the pop up desktop notification. All it needs now is the ability to print pictures and possibly the body of the email.
  2. Our's was installed by Link2ICT and it's the same as Steve21.
  3. Askelite. Can't recommend them enough. Based in the custard factory, so very local and always provide very good pricing and installation.
  4. Mods: Might want to move this to BGFL forum. You can approach pretty much anyone, other than Virgin, for a leased line or high end fibre broadband for the school. Make sure you also factor in firewall, filtering, the remote backup, MIS support and if you need it, the central rec downloads.
  5. Thanks for the info. They are all seperate sites but all connected by the local authority (BGFL). I'm pretty sure they are all on seperate VLANs though so not sure how well that would work. Any ideas if it would?
  6. Hi, I'm starting to look after a group of childrens centres and was wondering about the best way of managing the wireless for them. We installed Ruckus in one of the centres a couple of years ago and is working well and I was wondering if there was a way of installing the Ruckus AP's or even another controller at the other sites but be able to control them all centrally instead of having 5 individual instances. Thanks Rich
  7. I was there, however I don't think I'm allowed to admit that on here in case I offend some one ( Hi Andy!!)
  8. Hi, I need to put a new server in to a nursery that is currently using CMIS. Does any one have a guide for moving CMIS from one server to a new one? Thanks Rich
  9. Hi, We have loads of Centrex lines from Link feeding all the classrooms and I'd like to move to an in house phone system for ease and cost savings. Does anyone know if it's possible to port the numbers away from centrex to our own phone lines? Rich
  10. Hi, We have a load of extensions in school (60 odd) all connected back to Centrex. This works fine, but each line costs £5 a month and we need to rely on the phone company to do the extensions. Can anyone recommend a VOIP system that we could install/manage ourselves? I was planning to use the VOIP internally and then connect to maybe 10-15 external phone lines externally because the thought of trying to get our LA to open up the required ports to use VOIP externally are low to none! Thanks
  11. Thanks Our school has adopted the learning ladders system on paper but we need some way to transfer those to a digital system so it can assessed. Time to do some digging.
  12. Hi, Due to the latest government brainwave we are now no longer using levels. I've seen that we can use the progress grids in Sims to assess the levels in a more granular way, such as "child can do x" etc. Has anyone used these yet or have any pointers as to where to start? Thanks
  13. I was planning on going. Nothing seems to have changed, yes they have removed the local proxies, but the internet connection is no quicker. We still don't have any control on filtering/firewall. Network change requests still take a week!
  14. THe M5300 is just the slightly newer version of the GSM7xxx series and yes they do stack and it works fine. We had a fault with one of our GSM7xxx series and it was swapped out for the M5300 and it's working perfectly fine. Just enable stacking on both switches on the correct port before you connect them and then power them up in the order you want them to be stacked.
  15. The long and short of it, is that it sucks. I'm afraid to say that almost anyone who has BGFL network connectivity suffers with these sorts of problems and the "delivered on a truck, far to technical for a lowly technician to set up" new firewall hasn't helped in the slightest. Calls are still being logged for network change requests using the old method of ports and IP addresses and no one seems to be able to give an actual date of when things will improve. Sorry to rant, but it's beyond a joke now and if Andy does read this I hope he actually employs some proper technicians not more middle managers who don't do anything!
  16. Yes, our main subjects are, but this is non core stuff. For example one of the Aspects for History in Y1 is : To talk about the past by discussing old fashioned toys and the latest types of toys. I've abbreviated it down, but still looks messy and the staff are going to need a crib sheet to understand it all.
  17. Thanks for the advice. Annoying isn't it! It needs to be a long piece as it's non core assessment so it's very hard to abbreviate. I think the simplest is to make a crib sheet for the staff to look up from.
  18. I don't suppose you fancy expanding on the solutions you managed to arrange do you?
  19. Hi, I'm trying to create a whole new set of templates for next year but I'm getting stuck on the amount of text I can have in the Aspect. It's for the non core assessment and so we need quite descriptive text for the coloumn headings but Sims has a 40 character limit. Does anyone know how I can get round this limit or show extra description without having to click and show Aspect properties for each heading? Thanks
  20. That's my thought. I can't be much being as it's a free service. It's purely a case of changing an MX record and doing a migrate after uploading a CSV of usernames. It does worry me how well they would do it though as when I phone up asking for any changes to do with Office365 it seems it's the first time they have ever heard of it.
  21. Hi All, Just been thinking through the various options in regards to providing our own internet connection due to the lack of actual change at Link2ICT regardless of all the talk. The main reason we need to keep a connection of some kind is for the HR files, financial link and the S2S (?) link for sending back files. Correct me if I'm wrong on those. But would it not be possible to pay for a single VPN account that sits on the one machine that actually needs to connect back and then the admin officer just connects via VPN when ever she needs access? Just thinking out loud but does anyone know if this would be a)technically possible b) within the realms of possibility. Thanks
  22. I was there. Thought it was very good and I'm still trying to figure out what Andys screen name is. Looking forward to seeing the official report from Amanda and the exact time scales of when things are going to be delivered. Hoping I make the cut for the 10 trial schools for the new filtering as well.
  23. Hi, We have a number of Macs all printing to a Windows print printer and Papercut. This has been in place for years and generally works really well. However last week we have started having issues with a few 10.6 clients where it wont authenticate as the user. If you put in the network admin username/password it hits the print cue just fine, but if you authenticate as the user logged on then it says the username/password is incorrect. However it only says this in the console logs, and the print job just disappears. Any ideas as to why this has just started happening and how to fix it?
  24. Thank you! It had been marked closed due to Voting which has moved.
