That sounds really good. But this is Link2ICT we are talking about here and by the time you've got through the: 1st line support, 2nd line support, technical team, account manager, senior account manager, network services.... the Ether... You eventually get told no it can't be done.
-
Link2ICT will allow connection between the two sites for you I believe. However, you will need to double check routing and subnets to see if the clients can talk to each other. What is it for? Might it be simpler to have an externally hosted server?
-
I was looking at those, was just hoping for something centrally controllable for several sites. Looks good, but I'm not sure if it's what I'm looking for.

Thanks for the idea, but that's an all in one AP/Router. Due to the space it does really require a seperate AP and I was also hoping to be able to use the same AWS instance for filtering multiple sites but all from one simple interface. Basically, something like Meraki but without the massive cost.
-
I was just wondering if it may be possible to host some sort of filtering service on AWS and force all traffic to go via it. The scenario is fairly simple. I have been asked to put a single AP in a village hall, but to make sure it's safe (ie filtered) So my plan was to host the Unifi controller on AWS, which I've got working fine, but I was wondering if it was possible to then some how route all traffice from that AP via another AWS instance that is running something like Smoothwall lite and then out online. More a project than an imminent need, but does anyone think it's possible and how it might be done? Thanks

Good luck! Here's hoping it all goes well. -

I looked at all of the companies you are talking about and just didn't feel they really offered a better quality of service. With our own line and filtering we are in complete control and not relying on anyone to make changes or enable features for us. Moving away has been a long time coming, but as an academy we don't really use the LEA for anything anymore so it's a lot easier. I believe the big stumbling block for a lot of schools would be finance. -

VM wouldn't talk to us directly unfortunately. They kept pushing me towards the LGFL offering which sounded like out of the fire into the frying pan to me. Also, BT gave us a good rate IMO. Will keep you all updated. -
We are leaving Link2ICT! We've signed and returned all the contracts for a 100Mb Leased Line from BT and a Smoothwall S8 appliance. What's really scary is that we have had the notice from Link2ICT that they are ending our contracts... Wish me luck.

[voip] Single phone extension
Tricky_Dicky replied to Tricky_Dicky's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Thanks for the advice, we have ordered a Grandstream gateway and phone now and I've setup 3CX on a VM which seems to be doing the job really well. Nice idea, but the range isn't long enough. We are moving down in to the depths of the basement, quite a way from our current office. I did think this, but I'm trying to get them to buy a whole phone system anyway. Think I will start with the 3cx and go from there. Thanks for your help everyone, will let you know how it goes. -
Hoping this is a simple one but... We are moving office down to the basement and we need a phone line down there. It is incredibly difficult to get a line down there because of the position of the incoming telephone lines. We do however have a fibre optic line going down there for data from our main server rooms. So basically, would it be possible to put some sort of FXO/FXS gateway on the existing incoming telephone line that then turns it in to a VoiP line internally? I'm not sure if I've explained that very well... but basically can I have 1 internal Voip line that goes to a physical telephone cable, without spending a fortune?

yes. If memory serves it restarts a couple of services.

Restart the eportal services, both of them on the CMIS server. Does it quite regularly.

Cisco Meraki switches and security devices
Tricky_Dicky replied to localzuk's topic in Wired Networks
Have to admit, that's not as much as I thought it would be. Like you said, the time saving could be massive, especially with the filtering down to per port and all the excellent visuals that it can offer. -

They do look great, but I'd imagine not cheap especially with the ongoing charges... -
Display screens for classrooms

We tried a few cheaper brands but now Promethean have brought those out we are using them and they are excellent. Really nice looking panels and work very well. The new versions even have network and RS232 control. -
Utouch - anyone else have problems with their support
Tricky_Dicky replied to gaz350b's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Yes, we have had awful trouble with them. We have a few of there products and the customer support is terrible. We even paid extra for RS232 support on a 65" one so we could control it via Crestron and it just doesn't work properly. I'm really disappointed in them. -
Would it not be worth looking at SIP as it can be a lot cheaper?
-
We are going through a similar thing and have started with a building management system that controls external lighting and hot water boilers. It's a Crestron system, so not cheap at all, but means we can interface to pretty much anything and control it at will. Like I said though, we are only just beginning but it means we can slowly change things and reduce usage in time.
-
Already have done.

Hi, We have had inTouch running for quite a while with no issues, but have never used the schedule service. I've checked and everything appears setup and when I click the test button, everything returns fine. But when I try and "send a message later" from within inTouch I always get an error of "Unable to queue the message. Please check the Data Service logs". Does anyone know where these logs are or why this might be happening? Thanks

Remote Support Software
Tricky_Dicky replied to karldenton's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Didn't know Meraki could do that. Cheers Chris_ -
No, we didn't bother. It's all going to a follow-me queue so we can regulate it that way if we need to.
