It is quite quick to create the email accounts. Get a dump from CMIS for the year group you want, then it's a quick case of editing the Excel file to create the 3 columns needed for Zimbra and upload via CSV. In all honesty though, ditch it, save £1000 a year and use Live@Edu or Google Apps.

Either Live@EDU or Google Apps. Both are very good and you will find many people on here who use them, they both have pros and cons. We went with Live@EDU and haven't looked back. It's simple to use, works with mobile and desktops without a hitch and has very little down time. Feel free to give me a yell if you need a hand.

Interesting view on IPads in education
Tricky_Dicky replied to bossman's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
That article highlights one of the main points raised at yesterdays Apple Leadership convention. Anyone can use Wikipedia to grab information but the entire ethos of teaching and in turn assessment needs to change to embrace the changing times we live in. The idea that we are preparing the children of today for tomorrow by giving them an iPad and just saying "Google" drive me mad, what we should be doing/saying is here's an iPad and I want a piece of work that is original, factual and interesting that has information gathered and displayed in new and different ways. I watched a teacher print out 30 Keynote Presentations yesterday that were done by a class that are part of a 1-1 trial and they were identical in content. Such a shame that £12K is being wasted so badly. -

What size are they? If they are the old ones with the Blue surround I will take one off your hands this afternoon. Rich -
Just an FYI, the company that made that is called RoboChallenge and do some fantastic school events where they come in and do builds/projects with the children.

I get the same and we are using a Ruckus system. I'm pretty sure it's because the iPhone will try and connect to the network so the first thing it gets is an IP address but then can't get any further because it can't authenticate to the wireless. I'm sure there is a much better/more technical reason behind it, but that's the best I can come up with at this time in the morning

That's great, thank you. Does anyone have any experience of running XenApp on Macs? I'm just wondering if it's possible to make the shortcut in the dock look like the actual application, if that makes sense? So Internet Explorer looks like ie to the user and they don't have to open multiple windows first.

As the title suggests, can the sims client be run on users desktops as using XenApp? We are looking at moving to Sims and most of our SLT have iMacs now and it would be very useful if it could. Thanks

For some reason there are quite a few IT jobs in this weeks eBriefing which may be of interest to some people. This is the link to the ebreifing page for support jobs.

I've got the Luxor, works great but the vertical viewing range is a bit limited.

Anyway, does anyone know if there is a way to add group membership information to the csv file to bulk create users? We are creating 2000 users, and want to add them to a students security group (or distribution group). This way we can control the rules, such as disabling outbound emails. You can add all sorts of information through the CSV file which you can then use to create Dynamic Distribution lists via Powershell. For example, we use the department to be either staff or student and then can set up a DDG which says if they are a member of "staff" in the department then they are on "staff" DG. How do you turn off features, such as blocking a sender? We want to be able to disable things like this for students. Yep, fairly easy. You can both blacklist and white list users either through the GUI which is really straight forward or to get more complicated through Powershell. How will we migrate all old emails and contacts from the RMeasymail accounts to the new live@edu account, with different domain name?Pretty sure enabling Mapi will allow this, or if you can't do that from your old system then good old pop will do the job to a fashion. Good luck

We bought the MovieBox kit and that works really well. Not cheap, but it comes with everything you need to make it work.
-
Glad it worked. Does your Windows 7 work ok? I've been trying to capture and deploy it for a few days now and can not get it working properlly. When I sysprep it and capture it, Windows kindly removes Bootcamp and forgets how the keyboard works and then trys to log me in with a local Administrator account. Seems very odd.

Have you tried emailing them directly? They would probably send it to you for the purpose you want it for.
-
They don't have direct access to C:\, but no users do. They can access the network share no problem though. What do you mean by clearing the users profile?
-
Hi, We use redirected desktops for all users but for 1 user the redirected desktop appears but none of the icons are available. It just gives the standard missing link icons and won't open anything up. All the applications are installed and exactly the same as every other machine. Any idea why this happening? Thanks
-
You won't need to restore the partitions seperatly, you create a workflow in Deploy Studio Admin that does both in one go. My workflow at the moment is as follows: Partition Disk; Restore Mac image; Rename;Bind to AD; Bind to OD;Restore Windows Image. Good luck
-
When you copied the images, you did run the deploystudio capture twice didn't you? So once to capture the MacOSx drive and another to Capture the Windows 7 side? What happens is that it will create a separate disk image for each one which you then restore using a separate task sequence.
-
Cheers, didn't realize that. Just spoken to them and it sounds very good
-
What's in the new version? When you do the upgrade, will it keep all the scripts/workflows you already have?
-
Deploy Studio. You will need a mac server to do it, but it's fantastic.
-
Hopefully. Have you tried upgrading your Mac server to Lion yet? I've done my desktop and I like it, but unless we can get some volume licencing it will work out quite expensive to do all the machines.
-
It doesn't exist. They stopped doing volume licencing for the iLife package after iLife 9, it is something I really want but I'm not prepared to spend a fortune on it.
-
They figure out quite quickly that more chocolate/flowers/alcohol that is bought for us, the faster things get done. Funny that.... What's everyones best ever present?
