We use a secondary Papercut server running on a mac and it works really well. Also means the class printing can be held and released when the teacher wants it.

If they are the PowerPC ones then you won't be able to run 10.8 software on them. While you are going cap in hand it would be well worth upgrading the iMacs to as much RAM as they will take as like most computers it makes a big difference.

Hi, I'm trying to setup an Amount of Progress graph in Discover and failing miserably. Can anyone offer any advice or screen shots of how they have got this set up? At the moment in SIMS: Discover Aspect Detail I have the the mode of Amount of Progress looking at the B Maths Level for both the from and To Source Aspects and then the results sets of the last level entered last year to the latest one added this year and I'm just getting 0 displaying in Discover. I've run the generate Discover in setup and have done a transfer Discover Assessment. Thanks Rich

Hi, We have just got SIMS installed and I'm trying to pick up everything and not getting anywhere fast. One of the things I've been asked for so far is a report that has just 3 columns and lists; The Registartion Group, The number of later for a given time period, the % attendance for the same period. I can not for the life of me figure out how to do. Does anyone have this report already of could at least give me a pointer of how to select just a given date set to show lates/attendance for? Used our school domain and just transferred the MX record. Have you looked at the KB on Link2ICTs site? They have it listed how to do it now and they are quite willing to help.

Not sure about the Lion Server, but are you saying the Lion clients with 10.7.3 should work with a Snow Leopard server now? I've been waiting for this to move our clients over.

Went down the Live@Edu route several months ago and really like it. Generally very reliable and easy to setup and maintain.

I've just setup a basic VM with Ubunutu Server on it to run Joomla. I did a standard blank server and then enabled/installed all the LAMP roles and add-ons, then unzipped and copied over the Joomla directory to /var/www. However when I go to the site in a web browser, I get nothing. Just a blank screen. If I try to then go to the /installation directory I get a 401. Any ideas what I've done wrong and how to fix it? Strange one this, but when two of our users print the print job sits in the Papercut print cue under the name Administrator and as such they can't release them. The Papercut client on the screen is showing the correct user name and they are logged in correctly. Any ideas what this might be? Rich

Think of MDM as GPO for iOS devices. It allows you, on the fly, to change permissions, push out certain applications, email account settings, shared calendars and the like. It comes bundled with the new version of Lion server for free or you can pay for a company such as AirWatch and they will host it for you as well as a few extra features. I got quoted about £1.50 per device per month so it is not cheap and at the moment I'm trying to get my hands on a mac mini purely to do the MDM stuff. I don't think it can sync books, music and podcasts but I may be wrong.

Hi, Can someone give me a quick rundown on how Certificates run within a domain. I know it sounds daft, but I can't get my head round it (maybe it's a Friday think). Basically, we are setting up a test RDP system for some bits and bobs and I need to install a certificate for the servers to use and I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it! I have enabled the CA role on the DC which seems happy enough, but what do I do then to issue the certificate so I can install it on the RDP servers? Thanks Rich

Yep, got an interface card with video input and then in WMC configure it to tell it that it is an external video source and away you go.

I think it would be well worth looking at something like the smart board. Children at that age use there hands (and mouths) to discover things, they do not want to sit and look at a big board. I would hang fire till BETT and see what is new there for that age group.

There isn't a seperate section on the iPhone for handling https. You set the normal http one and hope it works, which unfortunately does not work inside the BGFL. Yes you can. The iPhone configuration utility is only used for configuring multiple iOS devices that need specific policies setting for it. It can set many things, such as WiFi, passcode policies and allowing or denying access to certain applications. A very useful piece of kit for deploying on mass, however I think MDM is much better. Not true, you only set the proxy in one place. I'm hoping that the new proxy system that Link2ICT are implementing will be more flexible for exactly this reason, however how long it is going to take to implement is hard to say. The best I can recommend is to get on to them and see what this weeks official response is. Rich

Does Google Docs work on the iPads now? I didn't think it did, something to do with a strange version of Safari. I'd love to be able to use Pages and then just save to Google Docs/Live@Edu.
