Ours is the parrallel model but it still needed baud rates settings from what I recall. I'll have a look out for the drivers.

This is a horrible little printer to configure, from what I recall we had to set the jumpers physically on the under side of the machine (as shown in the photo).

AHHH this is crazy!!! It is now saying on network connections that I have Internet access but, I can't get to any websites or ping anything on the internet.

Good idea. Check that, neither of them do. It's just got a static IP address and a subnet mask.

DNS resolution works. I have disabled IPV6 and that seemed to kick it in to life, as in I could get out on to the internet but then seemingly at random it will stop connecting to webpages. Is there anyway of forcing the machine to use a specific nic or are there some other proxy setting I need to set that I have over looked?

It was setup by Dell so I'm a bit vague on how it is connected exactly. From what I recall it is on the same network but uses VLAN to separate the traffic. Each server has 2 connections to the SAN.

I've updated the network drivers now but that doesn't seem to make a difference. Which other drivers would you look at updating? I don't have any teamed LANs setup as yet.

The gateway is correct, but our gateways don't respond to ping requests.

I've got 2 Dell R710 servers with a PS6010 San all connected up and working fine using Hyper-V with an iSCSI switch. However I am having some really strange issues getting them to connect out to the internet. They can both browse network shares on the rest of the network and can be seen from the rest of the network, but I can not get them to connect to the Internet. They are both joined to the domain and therefor have the correct Proxy details. I have updated the network drivers for both network cards and I'm completely stuck for ideas. Does anyone know what might be causing this and how to fix it? Thanks in advance. Rich

In all honestly do not try this on your own. The best and easiest thing to do is to go to one of the main Apple Suppliers to education (AT Computers, KRCS) and get them to quote for the whole lot installed and setup. 35 is a pretty decent number and so you will need a mac server of some kind. Depending on what you are doing it will either be a mini or a full blown server. In terms of managing them, they are really easy. Once all setup and working it's just a case of software updates and that's your lot. Just wondering, why are you dual booting them? Is there something very specific that the department needs from Windows? I only ask because thats the one area I have trouble with the macs, when they are switching between the 2 OSs. When you say it downloads the emails, what do you mean? Does it download the emails to a pst file of some kind for each user? Do the children do this as well or do they have a web interface to use? With that amount of users I would look at OLsync if you can, if not, the CSV upload will do just fine.

Hi Josh, Setting up Live@Edu isn't as complicated as it sounds. First things first though, who do you want email accounts for? Is it just staff or Students as well? If it's just staff and you aren't in to big a school then the simplest way to set it up is to enroll your domain and setup a test domain. To do this, go to the live@edu site and follow the sign up procedure, they will give you an MX record to put in your DNS. I would use something like test.yourdomain.com to begin with so you can get a feel for it, it is then easy yo add your main domain as part of the same system later on. Once you have the domain configured add users. Simplest way of doing this is a CSV upload through the main user interface, but this does have some down sides. 1) You can't synchronize passwords in this way 2) To add new people you have to manually add them. However like I said earlier if you don't have to many people this isn't so bad. I did it with 50 members of staff and it was pretty straight forward. Once you have got used to how the systems work just add your main domain, upload the users and change your main MX record and you are good to go. It doesn't matter what client people use to connect as Live@Edu works perfectly with Outlook (2003,2007 & 2010), Mail for Mac or just through the web interface. As far as the computers are concerned it is just a normal Exchange server and will treat it accordingly. Oh one more thing, don't forget to add the autodiscover to the DNS so things can be set up easier. Any problems, just call Microsoft directly. There support has been superb for me. Good luck Rich

Hi, We have Moodle and Live@Edu here and have created a school wide calendar system to try and finally get rid of the paper diary. I've created the account and shared it and can now access the website to view it, but I was wondering if it was possible to embed this site, or at least the main calender as a HTML block at the top of the staff area on Moodle? Is it just me or when ever it comes to saving money it is always IT and "back office support" staff that get fired? The main people I see in back office support are normally accounts staff who work damn hard. It is the little efficency that need to be worked out of every department to save money. I work really hard to save money where I can, even doing simple things like a proper managed print solution which even though it had an initial outlay will pay for itself in 3 months and will then carry on saving money for the next 3-5 years at least. If everyone did that there would be very little need for redundancy or outsourcing.

Thanks Rabbie, Yes the SAN is via the fibrechannel which is nice because I can leave those well alone. So from the beggining if I configure 2 ports on each physical machine with static IP addresses: Server 1: Port 1: 10.125.124.01 Server 1: Port 2: 10.125.124.02 Server 2: Port 1: 10.125.124.03 Server 2: Port 2: 10.125.124.04 Then on Server 1: Create an internal Network with Internal Only Create an External network connection which is connected to port 1 of the server. In the virtual machine then tell it to use the virtual EXTERNAL network I just created? Then repeat for server 2. Does that sounds about right?

Sorry I think I'm getting mixed up with the whole system if I'm honest. I'm trying to get my head around the physical and the virtual and getting tangled in cables at the moment. What is the best way to start when it comes to setting it up from scratch (minus the SAN). Rich

Just so it's a bit clearer I have the following system installed. 2* Dell servers both connecting via a Brocade switch to an Equalogic box for hosting the VMs. This was setup by Dell and both physical servers can see, access and host the virtual machines on this SAN. On Server 1 I have put DC-01. This is acting as AD, DNS, DHCP. It can see the rest of the little network, hand out DHCPs etc. On Server 2 I have put on AD and while trying to dcpromo it can't find the domain controller on DC-01. Looking at the networking a bit more, the physical server says it is connected to an unidentified public network. I have no idea why it is doing this. Thanks for the explanation on the network. I was under the impression you needed some sort of virtual switch as well as virtual ports. But it seems that if you want the virtual machine to connect to the physical network then just an external virtual network port for each machine is needed. Is that right? Rich

In what sense? In terms of IP and DHCP, They are both set as static, I've tested plugging a few phyiscal machines into the same physical switch as the virtual DHCP and they get an address so that machine seems to be working but the second physical server doesn't see the first physical server.

It's in User Configuration - > Administrative Templates - > System ->don't run specified Windows applications. Enable that and put mmc.exe in it and away you go

Create a GPO so they can't run mmc.exe.
