So we upgraded our domain to windows server 2012R2 (DNS is on the 2 DC's), AD was removed from the windows 2003 servers. We also upgrade all client machines to windows 7 enterprise. On many of the PC's some user logins are hanging at the Please wait for user profile service screen for anywhere form 10-30 minutes. The clients are pointing to the correct dns servers, so what else could be going on. This happens with a mix of roaming and mandatory profiles. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello. I have read several threads on the public user libraries and how to remove them from the logged in users library location and I have that working with shlib.exe in the login script. What I am struggling with is how do i prevent students and staff from writing to c:\user\public\documents and the other common folders (pictures,videos,downloads,music) without breaking windows. our students use mandatory profiles but the staff use roaming profiles. Currently we are on server 2003 AD but will move to 2012 in the next few weeks. I need to get windows 7 rolled out and this is holding up my image if i need to modify permissions on those folders. Hello I installed Chrome using a GPO and created a GPO to lock down Chrome. Currently Chrome is storing everything local so teachers and students lose their bookmarks etc after logoff. Students use a mandatory profile so I am not really concerned if they lose their bookmarks Teachers use a roaming profile. I am creating a test GPO that would store the cache data locally and the user-data in the teachers home folder. I am concerned that the chrome user-data folder is going to get very large. I really only want the bookmarks saved in the home folder but that does not seem to be an option. We are on windows XP and I do not want to use junctions to point to the file on the server. Has anyone had any problems with the chrome user data directory getting to unmanageable sizes? Thanks

Hello, I have been using romaing profiles for years but never noticed this...If i create a user and set the profile path to \\server\share\user.name.1234 and then log onto a machine, the profile folder created on the machine is user.name, but the profile folder created on the server is user.name.1234. Shouldn't the profile folder on the local machine be the same as the one on the server. We try not to cache profiles locally and when a users profile gets corrupt i change the path on the server to .xxx where x is an incremental number, but now i am thinking if the profile folder on the local machine is not what is set on the server then the corrupt local profile may get copied back to the server... On another note we have seen several profiles lately not get unloaded on the local machine. The remaining folder in the local profile is application data\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\My so when the user logs on again they get a new local profile as user.name.domain.00x We have UPHClean installed on all machines and have a GPO to delete local copies of roaming profiles Any ideas on this Thanks

ok, so i guess you can create a folder starting with a full stop using the command line...not really sure how/why GPMC let me do it before, but in any case the dot is not the issue, i get the same message even if i do \\server\users$\%USERNAME%\a\Desktop it is the %USERNAME% it does not like. thanks for the response

What do you mean?? in the users home folder i want it to create the folder .profileSettigns, i know it is spelled wrong, just an example of the error, and then put the Desktop folder in that subfolder. Frustrating that this has worked in the past... Thanks

In the past I was able to successfully setup Desktop redirection for certain OU's. I had the desktop being redirected to a subfolder in the user home drive. It seems that i am no longer able to do this. In the first image you can see one of the previously configured ou's in the second image you can see what happens when trying to configure a new OU. Any thoughts? Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I can already get the macs from the windows dhcp server MMC. I just am not sure how to see where the dhcp request came from.

So what should i be looking for in the results...I see many mac addresses on the same interface. Thanks
