Doing media transcoding on a 1.5ghz AMD chip? As that'd be the main reason to run XBMC on one, and why I asked what it's usage would be. I'd disagree that under those circumstances Windows would run anywhere near as well as linux.

If you're gonna be running it on a machine like that I'd highly recommend using a linux OS - the overhead associated just by having windows installed would likely cause you performance issues. What's the end use of the machine going to be?

It's excellent, I'd highly recommend it. Even the mulitplayer (which at first seems like it wouldn't work) has enough cool ideas to make it worth a look. But the single player is definitely worth it alone.
