Well, I managed to get a character created - then couldn't get online. When I was pitched back into the main game I then couldn't start any missions or switch character....which is concerning. However I didn't really have a chance to try any workarounds, so will have another go in a day or two...after I build my new system for BF4 ;-)

It's also worth looking in server config > hub transport > right click server and properties there's an 'external DNS lookups' tab that can be used to set the DNS lookups to use different servers than the servers configured adapters.
