try booting from a windows cd and go into recovery console and running chkdsk/r

is my sims directory on the server meant to be 8gb? i inherited the setup and think i could slim it down a bit but am not sure where to start.

i think copy sims directory to this vmware install either the msde or sql server 2000 then run simsinst.exe to install server if you use sql server 2000 you could attach the sims.mdf from your current setup and then go through the sql migration test.

hi all the joomla package we used at the recent conference am i right in thinking that it was all nicely wrapped up in one folder that could be run from say a usb pen, and was this for demo purposes or coild i use such an install for local intranet?

can you eloborate a little nicholab? ie do you have a vmware machine setup with sims server installed with sql server as if so in theory this should work ok if you follow the instructions for moving sim.net to a new server.

i think i had a similar problem when i upgraded to exchange server 2003 from 5.5 where there were two instances of exchange showing up, it matters not really as long as only one is active.

we recently did the september sims.net upgrade and now pars asks me whether i want to log on as trusted user or sql server user, can anyone who uses pars explain which one i should use and if i can authenticate against active directory now? thanks as always in advance.

ah that figures why the work stations didn't go through any upgrades at log on to sims. i think i may have to go back to drawing board am i right in thinking that i can miss august and just run solus download septembers update and that will be ok (*all whilst physically sat at the server and not at the workstation as done previously?)

ok it seems ok now i ran the applicationsetup as advised and i can now log on it says version 7.93 is this right now for september? after all the messing about is there anyway i can check if all is ok with the upgrade or can i assume if i can log on its ok now?

just starting restoring database from backup although i have found KB72254 at http://support.capitaes.co.uk/websupport/RenderXSL.aspx?KB=KB72254.xmlFalse on support net which points me in the right direction, i'm worried now though that i have bust it entirely.

i'm getting connection failed to sims.net with connection 0 having tried to upgrade via solus to september version i'm screwed no one can access sims.net and even during working hours sims helpdesk only log the calls and noone calls back.

i wonder whether is it a rogue sales person ? i used to deal with the IT support centre but they're sales rep forgot who was the customer recently after i made some constructive critism about they're after sales support so i go else where now but prior to that they were ok, i wonder whether they know of this?

Hi all i need to migrate some sahres from one server to another and have the same share and ntfs permissions, can it be done if so is there a tool? (which is nice and easy to use) i thought i came across a microsoft one that did it but can't find it now. cheers as always in advance

thanks Nij.UK it works brilliantly well here it is for everyone else. To configure Internet Explorer to open Office files in the appropriate Office program by using the Folder Options tool: 1. Open My Computer. 2. On the Tools menu (or the View menu), click Folder Options (or click Options). 3. Click the File Types tab. 4. In the Registered file types list, click the specific Office document type (for example, Microsoft Excel Worksheet), and then click Advanced (or click Edit). 5. In the Edit File Type dialog box, click to clear the Browse in same window check box (or click to clear the Open Web documents in place check box). 6. Click OK.

try switching off and then restarting with offending device already inserted this should sort it.

we are constantly been directed by dfes cfbt etc etc to links to excel spreadsheets which open in explorer i can't seem to find a way to download them offline. I'm not sure if LEA have blocked .xls and as i don't give the staff right click (link)download as rights i need to find a way to do this another way. I can bring up the excel toolbar in an explorer window but it won't allow me to save it ? any ideas? cheers as always in advance.

hi all how do i determine which release version (ie august, september febuary..) i am looking at doing the sql upgrade but am sure the last update failed and want to get my base point established. see told you it was a daft question.
