hi all i recently did an upgrade to vista on my laptop which had xp on it, i knew there would be issues but hoped that vmware would play nice, has any one had issues with network cards i/o errors etc? i'm wondering whether a reinstall of vmware might do the trick?

umm tried that restarted services still no joy i'm actually happy to create another image with the network card drivers apps etc in full and have two images will this work, or do the drivers need to be supported natively by xp?

Hi all we currently use inkjets and toners for our cartridges have done for ages they always look after us and we are happy, our bursar wants to use another company and they have tried to beat prices etc with some to and throing is there any particualr company that you use? that we can throw into the pot also is there any mileage in me suggesting that we have a good relationship with IJT we're happy with there stuff etc, Another question is there any law during tendering that suggests i can't tell one company the price they need to beat? it has been said that i can't do it as it will become bias???!

Hi all i created some riprep images that work fine on some machine but on others which appear identical but have different NICs i get error when ris gets to the xp setup stage and then borks at trying to get files from the ris server setup folder can i safely assume that this is down to the network card not being supported natively by xp and that i need to add the drivers to the image?

Hi all we use symsntec web security to group clients based on machine names and ip addresses to block/filter internet how can i apply or find out for sure which ip/name my tsclients get issued. they are windows 98 machines not connected to the domain logging into a customised mstsc.exe shell? thanks in advance.

I have just noticed that my windows 2000 machines are fine and dandy but my xp machines seem to hang when loading these shortcuts?

the key point in all of this was well made with one word 'Integrity' it sounds like yours is being questioned halfmad. Although i wouldn't take it personally some people have nothing better to do than winge, your explanation is clear and concise but not neccassary (in my opinion) your hired to to do a job, your computing head should have set the record straight for you.

we tried spiceworks it was very slow, but looked heaped with potential.

sort of defeats the object though hey? i want to use ris on my machines when they break so do i have to put base image on then ris image?

that sorted it mate although i have now been able to do subsequent installs on the same machine without doing a base image install first maybe it was just a quirk?

Ah thanks mark i just did two entrys b:\ b:\*.exe and now everything is blocked brilliant.

yeah good point network geezer this type of seting should be in its own gpo which can then be applied to a test machine first then rolled out to other OU'S. Incidenatlly did you manage to block exe's etc at different levels i'm stuck my policy blocks exe etc at b:\ but not at b:\folder ??

Can you explain what you have done at what level in you OU structure policies should only apply to those ou's that it is linked to.

just went to a normal xp install on this drive and got an error that it wasn't formatted correctly for xp and that it was a RAW drive ? not sure what happened when i tried to copy my Ris Rep image across but that can't be right.

EDS my word thats a blast from the past worked there about seven years ago in sheffield.

just checked the drive with Bartpe and all the files have been copied over ok?
