I have recently for my own piece of mind been revisiting my disaster recovery strategy and so attempted to restore my sims database from a recent back up i use arcserve to backup and it seems to work without fault however in order to recover i need exclusive access to the sims database when i use sql manager to attempt this it tells me that it can't be in single use mode while others are logged on, its quite late and no-one is logged on how can i force it to kill any sessions it thinks it has? thanks in advance.

hi all i just noticed that my w/stns are pointing to a wins server that does not exist after a recent server disaster it didn't get put back on. There is a wins server on the network so can i assume they used that or is that just sat doing nothing? and i just looked in dhcp and the wins server that is up and running is not listed in there so i added it. i assume now that the machines will update them selves and point to it and that if i add the non existing wins server back in and get them to replicate i will be in good order? what adverse effect could this have had up to date on my network if any?

djm968 wrote "You could use the software restirction policy in GPO to block exe files on drive T: ." How mate? you little dancer if i can get this sorted (having already managed to map all usb pens to B:with usbdlm i'll be home and dry. @Gambit usbdlm is a doddle to use and works brilliantly google it and hopefully djm968 will fill in the rest of the gaps around the gpo bit.

This is the one area you must remain seamless in, (your job ultimately depends on it) its expensive and a pain in the a**e but you must pay for what you use otherwise its theft. Put you foot down and get upto date SMT will respect your integrity if nothing else.

this didn't work a reinstall fixed it though weird as it worked fine for admins?

Mat ethis works perfectly i have also passed it on(with full credit given to you) to another forum member who was as delighted as i was with it. Thanks again Matt

you could dcpromo down and back up again after transferring the fsmo roles this should recover AD. i had this happen and did a system state back up big mistake. so in the end had to seize the fsmo roles from non existant (well dead server) and then strip the sids (important) on the old server when i eventually fixed the raid array

cybernerd, midget was that for me?

Can i ask a daft question ? great can ris deliver images that are prebuilt with apps on like office2003 etc and must i always do a sysprep, (i have always used ghost and just change the machine name and run the sid changer locally)
-
I assume you tried ip address as well as fqdn and domainname\username for authentication? (sorry granny of course you did)
-
so you just give admin staff access to recover lost files then beeswax does that work well for you? any particular reason why you decided against given it out to all?
-
How is the ldap been asked to authenticate? do you have multiple domain controllers? if so have you tried pointing to an alternate one

Is this possible on windows 2003 server standard build? i can't work out how to do an individual share? also i only have two drives in the server i want to shadow copy. Which are c: and d: drive, the stuff i want to have saved is the kids users areas but will only be able to copy it self on to the same drive ie d: is there any major performance issues doing it like this or should i consider external HDD etc?
-
we use citrix for external users pars and sims run very well on it
