  1. +1 on https inspection. It’s all well and good whitelisting the addresses but that only tend to be for filtering. I find we have to whitelist from https inspection and authentication (auth part only because we have some schools using legacy authentication method in smoothwall.
  2. Have you looked in to vodaphone who we have found to have a stable network and we have been commissioning there circuit in to all schools up for renewal with their current provider For about 3 to 4 years now. touch wood not even experienced a hiccup of any sort. Personally I wouldn’t recommend SBB as out of all the schools we have, where they still are or have been, we seem to have the most issues upstream and most problems with support. Granted you don’t have many yourself but it is more than your competitors who don’t have any that I have experience in the last several years.
  3. We use a set naming convention which would determine whether it’s a desktop or laptop and also to detect whether it’s a staff student or office computer. The variable will look at the naming of a device and appropriately allocate to a certain ou and also install relevant software. Eg sims on a teacher workstation, wireless networks on laptops Etc
  4. You likely pay monthly, quarterly maybe. Just withhold payment they will contact you then. Inform finance to divert conversation to you to discuss. I did this regularly to company whose service didn’t meet expectation and who regularly ignore me. If you want to you can heed warning that you have asked finance to hold the next payment until service discussions can be had. Arm your self with the facts first. Document all the time they have not responded, breached sla etc
  5. Ask her login to another computer and try. Do the symptoms follow her. All sims workstation anomalies can normally be resolved Try repairing .net 3.5 Try reinstalling the simsinfrastructuresetup.exe and simsinst.exe. If the problem persist Sims deployed from solus I find is a lightweight version. For those who use the older modules still need the full installers
  6. For efficiency quickly run around all the teaching machine switching them on. Check in solus agents in solus deployment that they are all online (not a huge issue if they’re not. But the whole update process will update a lot quicker if they turned on. Otherwise the delay will start if the agent not contactable) 1st I would Apply the major updates in order up to the latest. If memory serves the updates have database validation checks and won’t allow you to jump updates. Watch out for your sql database backup folder as the updates will fails will tolerance not met if the disk runs low on disk space. SQL install root\instance\backups Next apply any workstation/database patches related to the spring 24 release. Deploy the latest fileset (optional) this can be done by the data manager. Insert updated .rptdef files from the server sims install root location in to sims Deploy reindex patch and update table statistic patch (patches 22573 and 20647).
  7. Personally I don’t agree with the automation of resetting passwords and emailing them. I get the reason why but this is compromising security for convenience. Only takes the cover manager account to be compromised and you have x number accounts exposed. I better idea would be to have a running document that you and her have access to that for refererence. But still even that poses a risk if CM account is compromised I like the feature of automating disabling cover shared accounts daily. I deploy a bank of cover accounts to the cover manager. It’s her responsibility to manage the account distribution and to have these enabled with ICT in time. Your cover teachers to begin should have no access to school data, USB should be disabled and cover staff encouraged to use one drive / google drive if they need one and they get Access to a RO share for the teacher who is covered to upload their lesson notes to.
  8. We had this same frustration from a schools colleagues and I can’t claim any credit for this but one of my IT colleagues created a mail flow rule that matched the criteria when sending to all staff it sends it as bcc instead of to. Then the recipient can only reply to sender. In my head I can imagine how to implement but if you struggle let me know and I will go find the rule
  9. I agree in doing this way. this will likely be the best straight forward option. Just curious Why you removing it in the first place. Reading between the lines you moving to an alternative provider or sims hosted but from a technical perspective. Sims doesn’t not take up too much space, and I would create an applocker rule blocking access to pulsar.exe, simsload.exe and solusagent.exe (have solus deployment remove solus agent. Then if the school change their mind in 6months all you have to do is disable the group policy and push out solus again. Practically Instant recovery. Then when you come to do a rebuild of your site computers the sims install won’t be included. Only reason I suggest is on two separate occasions a school went to another mis and during the process which wasn’t great experience they rolled back. The second time it happened in another school who went to another mis but shortly joined a trust who took them back to sims. The second time I learnt and only disabled the service.
  10. Whats your experiences. Any recommendations Needs to be accessible and notifies a team of people

  13. I have this issue this week. I had to whitelisted classcharts and it’s cdn. Restart the smoothwall with a cleared cache and also Clear the pc browser cache
  14. After much digging I got an error message that the version msi I’m installing has expired and to contact vendor
  15. Thank you ticket has been raised via email.
  16. I don’t think I have seen any classroom cloud management system that works flawlessly. You mentioned you have abt. I love abt as the cost efficiency in invaluable to tech support and teachers. Ok doesn’t carry the safeguarding stamp that schools have to tick but great for classroom monitoring at a competitive annual subscription. Have you asked for on prem as I chose to stay self hosted rather than move to cloud.
  17. I have a school that has netsupport dna, school and notify and it running a bit dogged. Inherited from previous support. Please excuse me whilst technically competent I am only just picking up supporting netsupport. I think what is confusing me the most is it appears that each software mentioned above seem to have their own license service and therefore license on the server. And they are independently managed. Is this correct? Looking for some advice and I’ll begin with my problem. I recently rebuilt these devices thru config manager which installs the relevant software also. So netsupport tutor doesn’t show devices in a room specified by roomspec policy in group policy and the user has a registry key room added. Now they all look ok and confirms that it working for some computers but not others. A quick glance at their registry shows the group policy has applied to the relevant room, but this room doesn’t show any active devices in titor console. Firstly is it necessary to have all three running. As they don’t seem to coexist thru one management console. Each have a server side configuration utility it seems. What is the best practice to host them all on one server. If it is necessary to have all three running on the same server is there a server requirement specification I can follow as it ain’t half slogging a server vm 4 cores and 16gb ram. Any questions I will do my best to answer Thanks
  18. I second Vericool. Out of all the schools we manage Vericool comes out top for cashless is my opinion. They are not the cheapest but after support is polar apart from others
  19. I’m almost certain you can, I just used it last week. If you go in to portal.office.com. Log on with an admin user and navigate to admin console. Expand users. Then export active users ( which actually means all in m365) It will give you a csv. Bit of excel wizardry and hey presto Hope this helps
  20. Since they installed new tills at one of our schools we had nothing but problems. 3 months on and had no resolution to intermittent till connectivity drop. They can’t even blame our network as over the summer they had new switches throughout with 2x 10gb uplinks with their tills completely vlan segregated. It be unfair for me to say they haven’t been in contact as they have but not really helping to get a solution is not forth coming. Not sure what communication there has between the school and civica but as a third party I’m concerned and if they don’t start taking their thumb out of their proverbial I will advising that they look towards exiting their contract.
  21. This is due to blooket cdn are being blocked. I can’t recall the servers you also need to unblocked but if you type blooket.com in to a site called planet cdn it will tell you what you need to unblock as well. They need to be unauthenticated traffic
  22. I think you can export all your users out of m365 gui interface and it gives a csv with lots of information more than you really need. Includes livense and last logged in
  23. that is helpful thank you I can probably write it off as a non problem
  24. Not that we are aware of. too be honest its only something that has caught my eye as we are actively monitoring logs at the moment and we are jumping on things which look out of place. Thanks
  25. My last site we had the money to put 300va ups in to each cab. Was good as the switches would stay live practically the whole working day. Couple years later we stopped replacing the batteries as the cost far out weighed the benefit as we only experienced 1 outage in all that time and it ground everyone to a halt anyway. Replaced them with voltage regulator and surge protection devices instead to clean the electric input
