Not used it in a while but used to use Chrome Sign Builder which looks to a google slide - If you don't use Google admin then not much point looking at this. Always hear about Xibo on these threads!

Might be worth speaking to the school and seeing if they are a goole or Office 365 school and where they want to go, as someone else suggested Chrome OS Flex works but involves a small cost and then use the education tier google admin to manage the accounts and devices? (this works really well if they are a google school and gives you more scope for changes and easier to handover in the future) If Office 365 Intune works well but would be a lot more involved and potentially costs, as much as it pains me to recomend if it is a small school then you might be able to setup a machine with restrictions and software and then clone the drive to the other PC's First thing should definitly be filtering though, might be worth speaking to the ISP!

Started turning off switches this morning, still 12 to turn off did notice something weird in DHCP which I deleted yesterday and has came back but with a short lease and TTL OF 63 so there's hope still! (Managed 3COM 8769 which AFAIK we don't use for anything) Lease on the 3com device is like an hour each time it shows in DHCP

Thanks everyone, half term for me so time to start properly looking at this! ISP is Talstraight - they have said pings from the router externally look fine. The aforementioned port going from the core to the router is showing a high collision rate so will swap the cable shortly in case it's dodgy Checked loop protection and It's enabled on all but the core, no loops detected but don't know how trustworthy that is After swapping the cable I'll be updating firmware and enabling loop protection on the core, If nothing is detected I'll start turning off switches across site and turn on till I find it. Only recent change was an extra port being setup on the router and change to DHCP for the gateway for our AP's (reverted this change in DHCP but still occurring.) From my PC Ping to VM 1-8ms TTL 127 Ping to core 1-64ms TTL 255 Ping to another machine on same switch as i am connected to currently 1-13ms TTL 127 From Core Ping to VM 1-2ms Ping to another machine on switch round the corner 1-3ms

Intermittent latency with high ping, pings on my machine are all over the place ranging from 5ms to 300ms (Reported by end users as slowness when accessing websites) Speedtest on the machines isn’t great and shows download latency go over 3000ms (overall speed is good but high ping latency) Equipment: Router is Mikrotik provided by ISP (replaced yesterday as believed to be faulty)Core is 2x Aruba 5406Rzl2 Edge switches are Aruba 2930F Router>Core>Edge Switch >End User Device (Server 2019 DC does DHCP & DNS, DNS uses forwarders from ISP) Routing: Core uses router as gateway, core has VLAN’s setup with a static IP that acts as the gateway for vlans on edge switches e.g. AP gets plugged into port 4, port 4 on the edge switch is set to VLAN 4, VLAN 4 has a gateway of 10.1.4.1 which is the IP of the VLAN on the core, gateway for this is the router. Port setup on Mikrotik to core which acts as a transit network to internal range - - - Updated - - - Strange things that are related: When pinging another device on the network that connects to another switch it shows TTL of 118 Port connected from core to router as a transit network has tx errors which looks to be increasing. Next step is to replace the cable going from router to core and setup snmp monitoring, anyone had similar issues and have an idea on where to start looking?

What Ad Blocker do you use?
Frodo_Baggins replied to Sonic007's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
+1 for uBlock Origin, been solid since released and have it on all machines at home! -
Don't know about Cambium's newer equipment but the Xirrus X2 and H2 AP's haven't been the best, swapping out for UniFi in Feb and a lot better (also had some older Xirrus frisbees at another school and again not great, don't get me started on their support...)

Hi All, Had a few reports of delays opening files from a network share, when I watched the issue in action I saw that the files were opening a dialogue box where the file was downloading before opening and then opening afterwards but for some reason this "new download" was taking a few minutes to download and open (downloading and then opening instead of opening straight from the share) Anyone seen this before? Server 2019 Share, Win 10\11 devices, Office 2019\365, observed issue with recently .pptx files (using Sophos AV) Cheers!

I had a similar issue that was resolved in 365 pro plus, for the 2019 installs I ran the below command - I'm sure It was something to do with a change earlier on in the year with office and how it works with IE (you might need to check and edit the folder number after \office) REG ADD “HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\Internet” /v ForceShellExecute /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

At previous school we did "School Code\User Type E.g. staff or student\Year Group" and then sync groups from the MIS (MIS>Azure>Google.) Depending on your setup would look at GCDS if on prem AD and maybe an MIS sync tool if yours doesn't have it built in (create and sync users\ groups automatically - cost associated.) GAM is a pretty handy tool if you have to do a lot of Google stuff GitHub - GAM-team/GAM: command line management for Google Workspace or advanced fork GitHub - taers232c/GAMADV-XTD3: Command line tool to manage Google Workspace

Purchased a few GTX710/730 before and does the job if multi display is the purpose - usually have HDMI,VGA,DVI for around £50-75 + adapter cost. Mentioned as I assume you wanted something low cost, 1650/1660 is a good shout as already suggested (might be a bit overkill) and would avoid old AMD card like the plague (could help save on heating costs )

Re-authing usually fixes my issues with GAM, or re-approving API permissions when someone removed them. If your still struggling might be worth reaching out via Github\ Google Group (posted before on the one for GAMADV+ and creator was really helpful and joined a Teams call)

Running a SAR but have a few domains and would like to limit the domains that are searched e.g. only emails sent\received by users with an @Middleearth email address but also includes the words "The One Ring" in the subject\body? Current search un-restricted is 340GB - Anyone have experience with the KQL editor? Tried the below as keywords (Might have to open in new tab as the image looks really small for some reason...) Cheers!

Windows update? Noticed Edge Slowness\locking up on some of our machines. Wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft broke something again lol

Looks like Repl operate a version with a built-in firewall so we'll use that, If you still want an example for Smoothwall then this is one https://replit.com/@spykidx/Chromium-Advanced

Power automate or power apps for basic forms approval?
Frodo_Baggins replied to jblackburnHWGA's topic in Cloud Services
Forms and approvals through automate at a past job for me, then feed the responses back into a SharePoint list for a nice pretty view - easy to setup and showed our HR team how to do it so they could do it in the future (hopefully me successor didn't get hounded with that one ) Have seen a colleague do some fancy bits with Powerapps but forms and automate might sort you best and is within the realms of what a standard user can setup with a little bit of help (we used it for new staff approvals for HR) -
Hi Everyone, Not sure what to do with this one, thoughts? Computing teachers use Replit for Python, students have started using this to install other browsers within Replit to bypass filtering services (hosted on Repl's servers not internally.) I've got Senso Cloud picking up bits and pieces but seems to be missing some of the searches, anyone came across this before and know of a solution to block\ restrict packages? - One for teachers to police? They seem to have been using Replit for a while and I do like the idea of it but could be a bit of a nightmare (we use Netsweeper and Senso Cloud) Cheers Edit: Feel free to move if it's in the wrong subforum (posted here as replit is hosted)

We use https://www.schoolbooking.com/ as It's included with another package we use, has MIS sync via Assembly and can include the option to add the booking to the users calendar (has SSO too!) Edit: looks like it's already been recommended by fiza!

That export only has students, OP should be able to make a custom report if they need to - link to the file at the bottom of this article ParentPay and Arbor integration – Arbor Help Centre (arbor-education.com) Good luck with ParentPay support I think you'll need it!
