Any "gotchas" or useful software that anyone has found? I see MATS moving to Teams but not much discussion. We'll be moving to Teams assignments from Satchel and just sorting out the parentapp (already use Salamander\Clouddesignbox with SDS)

Deploying Printers - Windows 10/11
Frodo_Baggins replied to MatthewL's topic in How do you do....it?
Used Intune and went for Print Deploy with cloned printers to retain the driver features, may have changed but at the time billing was a bit of a pain as if you use prompt for account selection -
User has send as and send on behalf of permission of a user account and is able to do so via OWA and Outlook (New) but not classic mode. They were able to recently in classic Outlook but now cannot as they get a BounceBack with error 0x80070005-0x000004dc-0x00000524 The only other recent change which I think may be related is that we've set address book policies for each school and the mailbox the user is sending as is not in their school address book (they manually enter the email address in the send as field) I've checked the usual like address is being spelt correctly, removed and re-added permissions, and re-created the Outlook profile but still get the bounce back but only in classic outlook This seems to describe my issue but as mentioned the address being sent as isn't in the schools GAL A user who has Send As permission can't send email messages as another user account in Outlook in Office 365 - Microsoft Support - Is this a limitation?

Papercut Print Mobility for Trust Staff
Frodo_Baggins replied to Theldron's topic in Enterprise Software
Deploy through whichever management system the trust uses, It should install but depending on your configuration they may not be able to login remotely - are they authenticating via AD or 365/Google? (I assume unless VPN then AD auth would need to be done on site.) I've just retired our setup but happy to have a chat, I deployed Print Deploy with Mobility Print queues with BYOD printing turned on and deployed via Intune (as it's just a package should install from anywhere unless your using a tool directly connected to your AD network) Users sync from 365\Entra and authenticate with that as well - with this setup they could print on and off site - there is some more setup required for stuff like 2FA but worked well for the most part (MF and Mobility Print were installed on the same server for ease of use.) -
Assign and communicate passwords to Year 7 Intake
Frodo_Baggins replied to David44's topic in How do you do....it?
Not perfect by any means but we use Salamander and have a pre-defined password formula for new starters SchoolCode-DOB (set to pre-expire.) Students are given details in their first ICT lesson or in previous years a special "Homework Logging in" lesson. Passwords are given to ICT teachers who cover how our systems work and the students reset their password and make a note in their planners (not great I know.) Want to look at Azure SSPR in the near future to make it easier if they don't know their password -
If you don't use a deployment system like PDQ\SCCM\Intune then would recommend starting from scratch and sending out a form to staff asking them to fill it out stating that If not filled out then the software wont be on the machines next year as your "re-imaging" over the summer. For Departments using the rooms it may be best to check the timetable in your MIS.

Senso have said Sophos is a separate issue - Our BSOD is Netio.sys which I thought was related to the WFP driver from previous issues Just trying to log a ticket with Sophos - they did post this last month https://support.sophos.com/support/s/article/KB-000045942?language=en_US

Capcut Desktop app - classroom deployment
Frodo_Baggins replied to ovenchips's topic in Educational Software
Ditched this early on, pain to deploy without the store and a bit iffy due to creators, If you have Creative Cloud and Premiere is too much for the student\teacher it might be worth looking at Premiere Rush (our staff are quite happy with it) -
Invalid Value for Registry when trying to open .jpg
Frodo_Baggins replied to Techie-Tech's topic in Windows 10
Manage to fix this? I'm getting the same at the moment and cleaning the registry manually on the two suites it's currently happening on is going to be difficult. -
Schools Broadband Issues
Frodo_Baggins replied to Kollektiv26's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Yep, all back up for us now - missing groups in Netsweeper again though -
Senso user at two different mat's same experience where it is so hit or miss and seems to taken a nosedive in the last year in terms of performance - always get the same generic response from support that there are no wider issues. I'm sure when there is an affordable alternative we'll move to that (classroom cloud seemed to have a lot missing when I did a trial)

Hi All, Planning to move away from WSUS on my servers - 9 total with the 9 propping up 2 till I can retire them without changes (hopefully end of academic year!) Anyone else moved away from WSUS, see mixed information about Windows Server OS and WUFB Any thoughts or experience? (3 hosts, 1 physical DC, 5 VM) Or am I best to stick with WSUS for now? Thanks

Old HP EliteBooks - Unable to Reset BIOS Passwords
Frodo_Baggins replied to CHiLL's topic in Hardware
Tried https://www.biosbug.com/hp-8-digit-new/ ? This site gave me codes that BiosPW generator didn't and helped save a few of our older HP laptops - remember seeing refence to a tool called HPBR when I was looking for a solution -
Intune Lock or send messages to devices remotley
Frodo_Baggins replied to ashley23's topic in How do you do....it?
Would be interested in the same information, I'm sure I saw an option to suspend a device and was suggested to wipe but that doesn't really help in this situation Did consider making a policy to change the background and make a sound at startup\ applocker anything useful to force them back -
NEWLINE LYRA TT-6521Q 65" 4K interactive Touchscreen
Frodo_Baggins replied to Talltree169's topic in Educational Software
BETT would be good for this if you can make it, looks like they had a stand last year and will have one this year. Seems around standard price vs Iiyama\Viewsonic - What's so good about them? (to play devil's advocate) -
100% agree with this, we've done the same and did require a little bit of a "culture change" - I did play with force syncing certain libraries but too messy and as they were quite large meant that changes to departmental sites took longer to sync in file explorer... Moved away from this and most staff are now more than happy to use the web apps and sync certain sites\folders if needed.

Arbor much more user friendly than Bromcom but found reporting to be a bit better in Bromcom. Best to get Head Teachers and other key figures to watch some demo's and get a general consensus from them. Also BETT around the corner so good time to get more info and speak to techies & directors at these companies in person.

[ms office - o365] Power Automate - Staff Cover Request
Frodo_Baggins replied to pjhunt's topic in Office Software
I'm sure you've probably set this up now but there are templates built into Power Automate, depending on what you want to do it's quite easy to setup. Our cover requests follow this: Form > response generates an approval request > approved\denied by Head Teacher > email sent to requester with response details > If approved add to Microsoft list and notify cover manager to add to MIS. Happy to help with some pointers if your still stuck -
UniFi 6E AP's rebooting on Aruba 2930F
Frodo_Baggins replied to Frodo_Baggins's topic in Wired Networks
Thanks for this, looking back at one of the switches it hasn't happened for the last 6 days so the low performance mode seems to have helped. As PotnoodleTeach said the devices were going over the POE class allocation which I assume is due to some difference in technology in relation to allocation of POE (one to look at when quieter in school) Thanks! -
Hi Edugeeker's I have deployed around 40 Unifi 6 Enterprise access points but keep seeing that the AP's are rebooting. When I look on the switches I seeing warning's that the port the AP is plugged into is over the current indication .E.g. Port 2/5 PD Over Current Indication and then it shows the reboot\ loss of power to the AP E.g. Port 2/5 PD Removed, Port 2/5 is now offline. When I check usage on the switch gui the usage is around 12-13w but seems to go higher and then encounter the issue (I have seen the devices draw around 28-32w around this time which is not correct) The switches are Aruba 2930F models - JL558A\JL256A (occurs on switches in stack and those not in a stack) Anyone came across this before or have any ideas? (method used for POE delivery?) Cheers, Will Edit: Don't think it's related to POE output of the switches - Used 71W remaining 669W (not using POE Injectors)

Hi Everyone, Sure I'm missing something simple but my brain is not functioning properly today, I have a school who is moving from Active Directory to Intune and we have agreed to re-purpose a backup server to become the new print server. I've logged onto the server and added the print management role and imported printers from an export of print management on the old server, the printers are shared and permission is set to Everyone view/ print (using the default share option in print management not directing to a shared folder with printers published to that) When I navigate to the ip/FQDN address from my Intune managed laptop to see the default share I'm seeing a UAC prompt to authenticate against AD on the server, am I missing something obvious? (File and printer sharing is enabled) Other information - the DC has been retired and is now getting DHCP\DNS from the router, the new print server is still on the old AD domain, no VLAN's, no point and print restrictions, have not yet fully started going through gpo's/ registry as assuming I've missing something obvious... (I have another school setup but made the server myself and they still have a DC running) Any insights or advice much appreciated, Cheers, Will
