  1. Ahh. Only the uplinks get tagged, not the specific ports devices are plugged in to. Is that the same as a Trunk ? How do I specify in DHCP that an IP range should only be picked up by particular VLAN id ??
  2. Yeah but its never been a problem. Runs pretty fast. Suppose I could connect more than one uplink aggregated
  3. Hi all, I want to set up 2 VLANs to accommodate CCTV and a Ruckus guest WLAN on my network. Main buildings 1 and 2 have 12 pairs of fibre between them and a Netgear 7312 Layer 3 switch at each end. All ports everywhere are currently tagged VLAN: 1 In my server room, all servers go into a Netgear GSM 7724 Layer 2 switch, uplinked to the L3 switch. Any other switches (Cisco SG200) are uplinked into either L3 switch. The bits I'm stuck on comprehending are.... a) the trunking between switches (do I even need to do this?) b) where does the DHCP for the VLANs come from (and can I do it by setting up extra scopes on my DC DHCP?) c) how and where to tag the ports to indicate the VLAN ID on the switches. (Do I need to do this on every port en route from my L3 switch to my device?) Any comments/help much appreciated ; )
  4. I'm after an answer for this too. For your guest network..... Your LAN uses your DC DHCP and your guest WLAN uses Smoothwalls DHCP ?? Y ?
  5. Cool. Didn't think they would want to touch it with a barge pole. I'll give 'em a shout. Cheers
  6. Glad to help. Now if you have any similar problems in the bedroom..... let me know :D
  7. Turn it as u insert it a full revolution and gently push. I've had them where they're not quite round. Dont pull it out once it's in.... ooooeerrr
  8. Hi, I'm changing our AV from Sophos (yuck!) to ESET. Obviously got loads of clients to uninstall. Seen a few scripts on the 'net that I'm not too sure about trusting. Anyone know the 'official' Sophos uninstall script/app/method ? OR Whats worked for you? No way this is gonna be a manual job. Cheers in advance ; )
  9. Lol... DO IT!!
  10. Unplug it and use it for something else. As long as you have your DNS set up and your MX record points to your O365 tennant you're OK. Set up any Outlook clients with the IMAP settings for your accounts and you're good to go. I was at another school yesterday helping them with moving from Exchange to O365. They were thinking about a rich co-existence between Exchange and O365. The only reason you would want a hybrid setup would be if your 'net was down and you wanted a local copy of your mail.
  11. Hi, Some help please. I have a user who has informed me that her surname is spelt wrong in AD. She already has a user account, O365 account. I have made the change to her name in AD (and in the proxy smtp & SMTP addresses) to the correct spelling, changed her username, the object name... then done a DirSync.... Its not changing her details. The sync status in O365 says 'Last synced more than 3 days ago'.... but it is syncing new users... Help !!! ????????????????
  12. Hi, VMWare Esxi 5.1 & vSphere client. I have a VM that I use to create disk images for WDS. Each snapshot is a different machine configuration (office, pupil PC's, teacher PC's etc) The base disk size is 32Gb which isn't big enough for me to install all the programs I need to create my latest image. I can't increase the disk size because there are snapshots. I cant consolidate the snapshots because I will lose my different configurations. Can I migrate the .vmdx and snapshots to a new VM with a bigger disk size? If so, how ??
  13. I got all the staff together and did a demo. Was better. They won't read it anyway (probably) ; )
  14. Control panel / users / Advanced - require Ctrl-Alt-Del - untick (that might be just for domain comps) Also try changing the workgroup name then back. That should do it.
  15. Acronis is picky with hardware. I presume its the SATA drivers within the Linux kernel. I've had many issues with NIC's not being detected or not working. Not a good product. Try scheduling images from the installed Acronis. Major headache.
  16. I just deleted that post. Thought you'd solved it? No ?
  17. 1. Acronis is bleeding cack. So are their support. I've been lumped with it for ages. By my own doing funnily enough 2. What version is it? There's bugs in 9, 10 and probably 11 that I've worked around. Delete all the partitions from the disk and don't format. The image will do that. Acronis server has Disk Director built in. You can do it with that straight off the boot disk.
  18. Sounds like a knackered charger to me?
  19. Have you selected 'Move contents to new location' in the GPO? Also try deleting the local profiles ? If Desktop is in the local profile with no 'move contents', it defaults to the local profile if one exists (if memory serves me correctly) Run rsop.msc to see which policies are actually applying
  20. Looks like budget isn't enough for Axis. Only got £3500 and need 10 cameras. These look like an ok alternative LILIN LR7022 outdoor IP camera with 30m IR vision, HD 1080p and LILIN Network Video Recorder NVR116 Any experience / comments ?
  21. Y it is m8. Its the NVR thats going to need the VLAN, not the cameras - - - Updated - - - I've also got a quote here for Lilin equipment. Anyone have any experience with this brand ?
  22. Hi all, I'm asking here because I can't get an answer out of the manufacturer. I'm installing IP CCTV very soon. Cabling is already done with CAT6. Was looking at Axis dome cameras and an NVR. I have POE switches in all locations and will be running this on a separate VLAN. Anyone have any experience of Axis with NVR's. a) Do Axis cameras support VLANS? b) Will they run with POE from a switch? (I've read that some brands of camera won't, even being POE capable, and require a separate power injector) c) Any recommendations of brands of NVR that supports Axis cameras? (16 channels) Any (simple) advice on configuring the VLAN (have Cisco POE smart switches connected to Netgear L2 and L3 switches) Cheers in advance ; )
  23. I'd do baremetal. It'll pull everything across when you promote. Unless you've got other critical stuff running on it you need to keep. I had to do this a while ago when the O365 Sync Tool lunched both my DC's. Restored to a physical from an image.... built a new VM DC, promoted it, then seized FSMO roles on the VM. Physical is now secondary DC. It worked thank **** ; )
  24. Depends how much hand holding you are prepared to do m8. "Will you change my batteries" springs to mind.
  25. Its a VM. Snapshot it daily, back it up weekly Or create a 3rd VM DC. @tmcd35 - I use a VM as an authoritive DC. Never had an issue.
