@all:

Hoping someone will be able to tell me the best route from Heathrow airport to the Excel centre and if there are any problems with the underground affecting travel from this area, as I am a Northern lad I don't get daarrn saauuf very often hehe!

Any help would be very much appreciated plus any links

Thanks in advance

Bossman

@bossman Tube from Heathrow to Green Park (using Piccadilly line). Green Park to Canning Town (using Jubilee line). Then DLR from Canning Town to Custom House.

Saturday travel will be different because there is no DLR between Canning Town and Custom House

@stevehill06:

What about Sunday travel back to Heathrow?

Don't want to miss my flight home, how will I get to Canning Town from Custom House so that I can make my connection?

Not too good with travel, its as if I have no sense of direction at all hehe!

Would make a very lousy racing pidgeon hehe!

Thanks for all your help really appreciated :D

@bossman On sunday there isn't any DLR service between Custom House and Canning Town. You can get the bus from Excel to Canning town and then tube from Canning Town to Green Park (using Jubilee line), then Green Park to Heathrow (using Piccadilly line).

Hope that makes sense. Take it you will be at Bett on Saturday then, if so, I'll see you there

@stevehill06:

Friday and Saturday then travelling back Sunday evening, managed to get booked up in the Excel hotel more or less 50 secs from the Excel centre but unfortunately couldn't get a flight to the central airport from Newcastle, hence the Heathrow airport travel.

Instead of the bus could I get a taxi from Excel to Canning Town and what would be the cost?

What railcard would I require also as I find it quite confusing, would probably need a weekend all zone pass would I not?

Appreciated :D

Bus? I doub't you'd have time to find your seat! You could walk across the road if you prefer ;)

Not sure I follow you correctly?

Are you saying that it would be just a walk across the road? I have lugguage as well which I prefer not to tout around London, would feel safer in a taxi :D

Northern men tend to stick out like a sore thumb and usually attract the wrong element if you get my drift!

Even though I love London when I am down it always gives me the feeling that it's everyone for themself and get what you can while you can!

I realise that it may be only a small percentage of the London population that give London its bad rep as far as lone travellers are concerned but I wouldn't want to take that chance.

Appreciate the advice though, will you be down on Friday or Saturday? :D

By the way. We were all forced to eat too much pizza at lunchtime today. Please remember we will be putting on free pizza for all EduGeek members each lunchtime at BETT between 12:0 and 12:30. First come, first served ;)

@bossman. I doubt it's more than a 5-10 minute walk along two main roads. Knowing where they are I'd walk it. I suppose it depends on what you call 'luggage'. My idea of luggage for an over night stay is a fresh shirt in a ruck sack ;)

As for me I'm heading down Friday night, staying in Woolwich. I'm tempted to walk over from there on Saturday and then home on Sunday.

@bossman it is a 20 minute walk to Canning Town. You would be perfectly safe walking (I'd do it on my own with a suitcase), but I seem to remember that you have problems with your knee. Get the hotel to call you a cab to get to Canning Town tube. It'll only be 5 minutes in the cab, but it will save you a hike with luggage and won't cost much.

Allow 1.5 hours minimum to get to Heathrow.

I'll miss Pizza on Thursday @Dos_Box ... There's an eSafety talk in theatre C at 12.15 pm that I want to go to.

And on Friday Brian Cox is in the main arena at 12.30pm!

Maybe Saturday...

Well, had my day there yesterday. Bit manic as it was a late start and a fairly early finish (got there at 10:30 and left at 4:30). It was nice to say hi to various people, and I saw a few bits and pieces that I am interested in (HP's AIO PoE thin client, Lenovo's hybrid fold around tablet, some fancy looking prospectuses from a marketing company).

My boss came with me, and seemed somewhat bored! My head is still there and is somewhat bored too. I dunno, that just seems odd to me!

Or, if you're sick of trains by the time you get to Canning Town, stay on to North Greenwich (The O2) and get the cable car to the ExCel!

^ this.

We went on the cable car a couple of weeks ago and it is EPIC!!

Well I walked my legs off yesterday and still didnt get round everything I wanted to see, I reckon you could do with at least 2 days to get round everything, even with our cherry picked shopping list of things we wanted to look at we still walked round for 6 hours and didnt get round it all. Anybody got any spare feet?

Possibly the main reason why I'm dragging myself down there.

The other main reason is to say hello to Edugeeks, faces to names and stuff.
