tmcd35 Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 I've (almost) completed ditching HP in favour of Oki's everywhere. Our most common model is the B410/430, we have about 9 in department offices. Next up would be the C810/830 and the C610 (2 of each IIRC). We have some other random models but all future purchases would be either B411, C611, or C811 (or updated replacements) based depending on their location. 1
familiarrealms Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 A lot of schools that I have spoken to like HP Laserjets. They are quite popular. Second to that is probably Kyocera because they have reasonably priced toners. 1

Paid_Peanuts Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 (edited) Mono (100) = Brother HL-5250Dn or HL-5350DN. Brilliant printers, cheap to run and hardly ever go wrong. hallb15 Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 A lot of schools seem to be going with Konica photocopiers that also print, such as the C650 bizhubs. They are usually on a maintenance and support contract which is good because they frequently break down and need an engineer visit. In my current school we have two C650 units and we get a visit from and engineer at least once every 2 weeks. I have a Brother HL-5250DN on my desk for mono prints and only use the Konica when I have to! At home I use a HP laserjet 2600. Slow but reliable and lots of cheap remanufactured toners available. 1

Soulfish Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 We have a combination of Ricoh MFDs (MPC3501's, MPC7501's and MP8001's) and Kyocera Printers (FS-C8500DN's, FS-C5350DN's, FS-4040DN's and FS-2020DN's). We mostly use the Ricoh MFDs with PaperCut MF and fingerprint biometric follow-me printing with the kyocera printers in specialist areas or offices. Love PaperCut though - absolutely brilliant piece of software

Just wish the toner wasn't loose in the drum, makes 'em a bloody mess to change. We use Brother 52X0 and 5350s with a lot of success as well, for areas where a managed printer isn't cost effective. 1

Back when colour lasers started hitting £250 mark we kept getting asked about them by management as the cost per page was less than our inkjets. I continually advised against them as they produced higher quality results in a fraction of the time it took our inkjets. Sure enough, when we were finaly forced to get some.... People produced higher quality, faster and because it was good , quick and easy... They produced a lot more. So it cost more. same has happened with print management. They can print to a virtual queue, then go to any device and retrieve their work. They no longer have to PLAN printing, they print print print and collect it as and when they like. We are reigning it in slowley with tighter quotas and making it more difficult to get extra credit ( only SLT can aprove for students and staff). Rob 1
