IKWeb Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Well after purchasing my new HP home server, to replace my Dell Poweredge, and the Mrs having ago at me for doing so, I thought I would create a post, to see how many other people here have a server setup at home and if so what kinda setup do you have, and where do you keep them? I have just got a HP ML150 G6 42GB RAM 8 2TB SATA HDD 2 INTEL XEON E5506 Running ESXI 5.0 HP Pro Curve 24 Port PoE switch running the network, and IP Cisco phone system. Kinda over kill maybe, or maybe not?

ChrisH Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 I have 2 HP MicroServers with 8 gig ram and 2 NICs. I use a 4 bay QNAP for storage. I run these as a Hyper-V cluster on the 180 day trial. QNAP keeps my files mostly, I only use the servers as a test bed and I don't run any services I need for home. Got an 8 port gig HP switch connecting everything.

Nasa... :-) Just finished my VMWare courses so the main reason was for that, well that’s what the Poweredge one was for, I run 2 CC4 servers 2 CC3 servers, and multiple workstations for those 2 servers, home servers for phone and media streaming, that’s about it, at the moment anyway :-)

m25man Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 I don't think your being OTT but I share your ear ache, In my loft I run an ML350 G6 on 2008R2 Enterprise running Hyper-V with 32GB 2 x E5420 with 2 x 250 and 2 x 500 SATA hooked up to a 6 x 1TB Readynas Pro running as an iSCSI SAN box Seimens IP Phone system over Virgin Cable Via a Sonicwall NSA240 APC 1500 UPS Netgear 16 port switch Unifi UAP x 2 2TB LG NAS box for the AV storage and Network attached BlueRay. 5.8Ghz wireless bridge to my workshop where an old rack mount 4TB Terastation keeps everything backed up. The whole lot costs around 4.5p per hour to run 24/7 that's around a £400 per year electricity bill so watch out for that sting in the tail. I keep turning the lights and the heating off telling the wife "she" needs to be more careful.

Davit2005 Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Thank goodness for Virtualization. I used to have 3 HP ML330's (I think) but now have 6 servers running on a MicroServer. May look at replacing my old ML115 with the newer MicroServer as the RAM for the MicroServer is so much cheaper (not to mention less elec bills). Currently run: Draytek Vigor as Firewall (this was given to me) HP MicroServer N36L with 8GB, 4 X 500GB SATAS, 2 X LACP NIC's, (2 DC's, File Server and a Windows 7, Moodle, Ghost/WDS) HP ML115 G5, Quad Core, 5GB RAM as development/lab (Memory too expensive) 2 HP 1810-8G's (with 2 LACP Uplinks between as in different rooms) Old HP DX6100 (as a Tape Backup server for off site full backups) Most of my home computing is done on MACS, can easily RDP into the servers if needed. Looks like I have a bit of catching up to do :-?

I think you should host a couple of ARMAII DayZ servers on that monster! My Acer Aspire Revo is more a media centre then a server, but is used as one for FTP access and hosts a TeamSpeak server too. Microserver is my web server (http://ey-computerservices.co.uk)and Also storage. I am running Centos 6 with KVM with my website running on one VM and my storage on another. Also building a new VM on my server for running my CCTV system.

CESIL Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 I have a 6 year old (at least) Dell Pentium D, a similar aged Dell D610 (both running XP Pro), a wireless router, a Virgin "Super" Hub, an old Intel print server box connected to an old HP 6122 inkjet...and...errr...that's it... I spend too much time at work every day with servers etc to want to have them at home as well ...oh and none of it runs 24/7...yes I am that tight fisted... ...but I am trying to find some cash to buy a small NAS box to store my photos...

I get really bored of using computers by the time I get home every night! barely ever go on the laptop now. I've got a single box in my living room which is media server/player, and then 1 in each bedroom to watch the media on from downstairs. none of it is on permanently though, as i'm also a bit tight fisted with it! used to be though.
