rad Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Edugeek, help me decide, which broadband provider do I go with, moving to a new house on Friday. Not into downloading movies by the bucket load just want something reliable and quick, ie not dialup speed So question is, who are you with, and would you recommend them?

I am hearing good things about BT Infinity at the moment I personally have no reason to change, but if i were to end up in an area that does not support VirginMedia then I think I would be considering BT Infinity. Achandler Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Ask your neighbour they are we relating to speed, as distance to an Exchange is the real question. I have sky, i live next to the exchange so it is excellent, true of the matter is almost all companies would give me excellent service probably because I am so close I am less prone to work done futher from the exchange on telegraph poles etc, so suffer very little disruption. 1

garethEds Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 I wish I had the option of Virgin Media or BT Infinity. We will never be offered Virgin Fibre and Infinity will be a distant dream. Still I have a reasonably ~6mb broadband so am happy with that for now. Sky Anytime+ works through it. I've used PlusNet and was very happy with them. I'm currently with BT and all is good. Gareth 1

nicholab Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Be value might be a slower headline speed but I never had buffering on love film using it. Also people like zen and Andrew and Arnold if you go with a BT fibre product. 1

On the plus side, their accounts department is useless and keep forgetting to cash my cheques. I've had three free years in the last twelve, so I'm quids in! 1

Very small company, but the great thing about them is that if there's a problem you aren't phoning India, you're phoning Letchworth. When I had broadband problems last week I didn't have to talk to eight different people who all told me to restart my router, I just outlined the problem and the things I'd tried to fix it, and they sent a BT engineer who fixed the fault. 1

Never many problems, and they're always related to some major Virgin work, like the present speed upgrade. As soon as they finish tinkering with the local UBR's, I'm going to change to the Premiere collection. 1

Whats your Internet like, do you watch loads of films online? The reason for asking on here was to get an idea of what companies are like and what people think of them. Gone are the days of having loads of choice, Wanadoo, AOL, Tiscali etc etc have all merged. Having been living on a narrowboat for the last 5 years and using (very well) a 3 Mobile internet dongle, i havent been fortunate to have decent internet until I go back to my parents. Many thanks to those Edugeekers who have replied. The more the merrier. 1
