By all means there are some complete tecnophobes/luddites out there who don't speak l33t. But what does that matter? You are in your profession because you chose to be. The vast majority of teachers are the same. Again, there are exceptions, those who just happen to teach because they didn't manage to become an engineer or whatever. Teachers may well have 3 months off, but the other 9 aren't exactly easy going, that is if you're doing your job properly. Get up 6.30, leave home 7.30 to be in work for 8.30, start teaching at 9 and keep going until 3.30. Bear in mind that there is no guarantee that your break or lunch will be uninterrupted and as in many other professions you work through lunch. Many kids then stay after school for an hour or so to get extra help so they disappear about 4.30. Add half an hour to get papers gathered toghether and sort out a few things for the next day and it's 5 before you leave for home. Probably somewhere during the day you'll end up administering first aid or have to listen and advise a kid who's being bullied or abused or whatever the situation is. Great! At home about 6, sort out meal, sort out family, start working again at 7.30 if you're lucky - marking homeworks, tests coursework and preparing for next day. If you teach ICT then you're contacted by email or messenger and will probably have to spend time debugging kids coursework before packing your bag for the next day and eventually heading to bed before midnight if you're lucky. Change that to 4am when under pressure with coursework. So all in all a very short and easy day! You go to work, fix machines, and leave it all behind when you clock off - you really got a tough deal if you ask me!
