Remote Control Users By Username

Hiya guys,

 

Is there any piece of software that you can remote control pc's by usernames, so you can catch pupils being "naughty" by there username?

£: We're using AB Tutor Control, and it lists PCs and users logged in.

 

£free: VNC also does this but we found it unreliable. Setting static IPs or DHCP reservations helps this a lot though.

Impero allows you to list by user and by machine domain name

in NetSupport you can view the machine names and the usernames of the users that are logged on to them

Not seen it mentioned here but we use Lanschool. Shows all machines and users logged on. Allows remote control,remote run, screen capture, net blocking by room or individual, Net activity printing and screen broadcast plus other bits and pieces.

Get a thin client network with Citrix Presentation server. There is a shadow feature. You can select the users you want to watch, send them a message, log them off, plus more.

The head of ICT here loves it. I use it to catch them on websites that they shouldn't be on so that I can block the site. If they don't do as they are told they are logged off of the system.

we use lanview just for that but I know it wont be around for much longer by the looks of thing but it is free and does what i need it to and you can see usernames and machine names

Net Support manager will tell you who is logged on when you scan for computers.

It was only a suggestion.

There are many reasons that I prefer a thin client network, shadowing is just one of them.

How many PC's do you have go down in a week/month??

Ranger has Ranger Remote which is very very good..

Ranger remote - isn't that essentially the same as net support school?

 

I thought NSS was more or less just ranger remote rebranded.

We use NetSupport Tutor, very good piece of kit. We're in the process of rolling out Version 9.

 

However, there are some drawbacks, this program will tell you the hostname and username of the logged on users. The implementation on the other hand is rather fun! We've had to create class lists, and using the deployment tool, we've had to push out the client configuration.

 

The whole process is quite long winded, but very effective once in place. We began implementing it this way because of our lovely Staff controlling all machines and blanking the whole sites monitors or disabling the internet access for the whole site!

 

Once implemented, using password protection remote control authentication and class lists the whole site is finding the program extremely useful.

 

I would recommend NSS, but on the condition that you have the time to complete the implementation process.
