Question - is it too realistic?

I grew up with GTA1, so to me the entire series is a silly kill-em-all type game. But kids now are growing up with near real-quality gaming experiences. So, differentiating between reality and game is more difficult.

I'm looking forward to GTA V personally, but it has me worried a little.

You can physically manipulate how your vehicles behaves during air time, so, no it's not to realistic. It's a good balance in my eyes.

I need to stop reading this thread... I want to get GTAV now.

But, after GTAIV I'm really wary. That was watching-paint-dry levels of boring.

What are you waiting for? Go buy it, NOW. Go on, NOW I say!

GTA:IV had put me off, but I'm very pleased to say (from what little I've played) it's a lot closer to Red Dead Redemption than GTA:IV. In terms of the car physics (remains my biggest gripe with these games) it just means I have to ignore the racing side missions.

Not by a very wide margin! Usual GTA humour and cartoonesque character animations. Personally, I'd like reality to more like the game ;)

In terms of 3D open world graphics fedlity, as a gamer I've waited a long time for this. I remember playing Flashback on the Amiga and being captivated by the fluid character animation and the openness of the space port. It's taken a long time for games to get to this point where we have such a huge open playfied. I'd say it's only really been the past 2-3 years that these games have matured to this level. Looks good for Watch_Dogs and AC:IV next gen.

One thing that is especially notible in GTA:V is how fluid the transition is between cut scenes and games. They are now one and the same - indestinguishable. In fact I've been coming out of cut scenes not realising I had to start controlling the character

I've finally found a genre (other than Civilization) that I can happily waste hours of my life playing (read "exploring").

I was thrilled to see my copy arrive yesterday and must have put in about 4-5 hours of gameplay, mostly doing missions, but the occasional bout of randomness involved.

One thing I am really impressed with is the AI of NPCs.. The police seem a LOT more intelligent, and random folks on the street too.. I had just finished a mission and was heading back to find a car near the pier when some random guy started shouting at me, I hadn't realised at this point that you can interact with anyone using the action button (right D-pad on PS3), so after talking back to him, he pushed me away, then I laid him out cold in one punch.

That truly made my whole experience on the game worthwhile so far. I think i'm in love.

Hey! Cousin! Let's go bowling!

I am in a similar position. I bought my 360 for GTA4 and between the goddamn mobile phone and the car physics that made you drive like your Grandpa I bounced off completely.

Looking at the performance woes people are talking about, though, reckon I'll wait until the PC version is released, seeing as how my computer is hooked up to a big telly anyway (as well as a normal monitor, I'm not mad). My shiny new GTX680 should munch through it :)

I've had no performance issues at all! :p Had 3 hours of lovely smooth, 720p game play on my 32" TV. Hehe Looking forward to going back to get stuck into again! :p

If I'm going to get it, it'd be the PC version.

I'm not having part of my game being withheld because Microsoft are greedy bar stewards. [Xbox is peer-to-peer... it costs them nothing.]

Why is so difficult to control aircraft?

Because planes are hard.

Its been a while since I studied French but im sure that says he is 11

Doesn't matter. It isn't 18.

[Also, Peggle said "a little year 7". Not a 7 year old. :p]

thats what I get for skim reading :)

The parents should be taken away and sent on parenting courses. It does annoy me though as its videos like this the Daily Mail/No violent games brigade will use as a reason why this game should be banned.

Pah! Peer pressure. If my nephews facebook comments are anything to go by I doubt there's a kid left in school who hasn't already played it.

That said, I'm sure the parents don't realise what sort of content is in this particular game...

Me and the boss were discussing this earlier, the amount of under 18's that probably have GTA V and multiple COD titles is ridiculous. Well that's my view. It's rated 18 for a reason. (:

Amount of kids who play these type of games is most likely growing, I used to work in a Games Shop, we had to sell an 18 rated game once to a 9 year old as his "parents had allowed it" (They were with him at the time)

I've been off ill the past couple of days and of course people assume I've been skiving to play GTAV. What makes that annoying is I don't have GTAV yet!

My copy of the SE was there for me when I got home from work yesterday. All I can say is, WOWOWOWOWOOWOWOWOW. My social life has been utterly obliterated now, fantastic first few moments already. Curious, what method did you all pick for the first heist? I would explain how mine went down but I won't incase it's spoilers for people who haven't got the game yet. Oh and who else managed to smash the first car in the race with Lamar to beyond recognition due to being shocked by the new driving physics, or was that just me? :p IT DOESN'T HANDLE LIKE A BOAT FROM GTA 4!

Also, did you hear about that guy in London who got mugged/stabbed for his copy? Sad story indeed, but how long until the idiots blame the game because of it I wonder..

Obviously I don't know when this took place, but...

BBC News - UK enforces Pegi video game ratings system

It looks like it is now criminally enforcable in the same way that movies, tobbacco and alchol are. Meaning even if the parents are standing there next to them saying "yeah, yeah, it's okay" it would be illegal to sell them the game. In fact it would be illegal if you had reason to believe the game was meant for someone under age even without them being there - as in parent comes to the counter and says "I'm buying this for my 9yr olds birthday present".

There's been some interesting news stories over the years where trading standards have staged such sales to entrap naughty shopkeepers.
