Just trying to get my head around this. The problem I'm having is you don't seem to be able to set the OneDrive sharing permissions to be more permissive than sharepoint. Ideally I want people to be able to share from their own onedrives, not from sharepoint. Like it was before they made this change. Feels like a backwards step in terms of security.

I would assume because they aren't talking about blocking VPNs or social media for under 16s. They're talking about blocking it for everyone that doesn't hand over proof they aren't under 16.

I don't mind isams, but there are some features it really lacks. There's a post on their ideas portal from 15 years ago asking for a way to link the calendar with outlook or your phone. Socs calendar seems to be the only way to do this, which is another paid solution. They've never even responded to the idea. We're about to be pushed onto their new cloud parent portal, which admittedly looks and feels much better than the old one. But I've logged 3 tickets this week already about basic features it has that just don't work. Nearly everyone seems to have something to moan about their MIS though, so I'm not sure there's a better one.

That is a weird one. I think it is a data breach and one that could cause harm, which if I'm not mistaken is the criteria for reporting breaches to the ICO. I think I would report it as if you don't, they are likely to. That would look very bad from the ICO perspective. Reporting to the ICO is easy and they will likely come back with some advice on how to avoid it in the future and close the case. It's pretty unprofessional though and I would too be a bit annoyed about it.

Interesting, does HUBMIS have a parent portal or would you need to use a 3rd party for that?

I've worked with CC3 and CC4. What I don't like about them is you only learn how to do things the RM way, which no one else does.

That's really interesting. I've mostly found projectors a lot more high maintenance than an interactive screen.

I would ask them to prove that point. It's definitely BS and should be called out for it.

I think this has always been the case. RM charge a Community Connect License, so that license just carried over to CC5, it's not free. I'd be very surprised if you didn't still have to pay for the Microsoft Licensing for Intune (assuming that's what it's built on?).

For me it's just how limited the customisation is. We don't actually use a fair amount of the features and it's quite hard to hide what you don't use and looks bad. We were also hoping for a calendar feed that can be linked to your outlook as many parents ask for it. There's a suggestion for this feature on the isams ideas portal from 15 years ago that's just marked as a 'good idea'.

Any isams users making use of the built in parent portal? They've released a new cloud parent portal that is honestly just as bad as the previous one. Wondered if anyone had anything good to say about it.

I've not received anything yet. Such a shame.

Kind of feel like you've answered your own question here. I think it's also important to highlight that staff are responsible for this, not the school. Social media searches are fairly common these days by employers. You shouldn't need to come up with instructions, especially as the steps can change. I would just suggest staff come and see me if they want some help with applying settings.

How do people handle the transfer and sharing of important mailboxes? For example our facilities manager is leaving and there's a lot of communication history that will be useful to the new facilities manager. I will generally convert the old mailbox into a shared mailbox and give the new employee access to it for an agreed amount of time before it's deleted. How do you handle this kind of situation?

Don't really have a 'Process'. When the renewal notification comes through I will discuss with the relevant staff member or head of department to see if they still want to use it. I'm always keeping an eye on the cost of software contracts and will try and negotiate a better price with the supplier each time renewal comes up. I keep a list of all subscriptions and their renewal dates so I know what's coming up.

I appreciate the responses. It's thrown a bit of a spanner in the works for me. I had suggested intune as we are already in the 365 ecosystem and frankly my suggestion was not based on trying to save money. Just moving to the cloud itself is saving us some money. Anyone had experience of migrating users and data between the 2?

Are you full google or mixture of both?

I'm in a situation where we're just finally getting rid of RM CC4 and going serverless. We need to replace most of our computers due to their age and our OVS agreement is ending. So this means new MS agreement and moving to CSP M365 A3 licenses and the cost of those vs workspace for education licenses. The cost of replacing Windows devices vs chrome devices. The cost of actually setting up intune or google is fairly similar as it's basically my time or we pay someone to do it for us, same with moving data. I agree it's a valid question with regards to costs. It's the work involved and the lack of experience in any of our staff that makes me think it's a bad idea.

Office Apps, Windows and extras like conditional access are not free. I've looked into both scenario's, going completely google or having windows devices with google workspace, it is a bit cheaper but not enough to justify actually doing it. I think I'm just looking for clarification from other that this is in fact a stupid question.

Has anyone made the switch from O365 to google workspace? I've been asked to look into it, with the goal of saving money. Personally I think it's a lot of upheaval when we already have all our users in 365 and are heavily using OneDrive and Sharepoint. I'm trying to go serverless and have recommended we manage devices in intune. The question came back "why haven't you looked at google?"
