Looking for advice : Promotion from Technician to Senior Technician
APMerry replied to gavinpayne's topic in General Chat
I would just sit down with the head and be honest, tell them what you think you are worth and the worst they can say is no. You could easily get more than that as a senior technician at another school, you need to try and make them realise how much you actually do. You should keep an eye out for jobs as sometimes they dont realise what they had until its gone im afraid. -

I made my first trip to the US last year, walked into the hersheys store on Times Square and was imediately hit by the horrible pukey smell you guys are talking about. I still bought and ate 2 1kg bars lol. As for the heat being a reason, they do the same thing in Australia and their Cadburys doesnt taste like ours but, its still 10x better than hersheys.

Probably start with MCTS Exam 70-680. Thats the configuring windows 7 exam. It's probably a good place to start and just go from there.

This! have been reading over the posts and dieting is really not a great idea unless you are seriously over eating. Best thing to do is have a group of 2 or 3 friends to go to the gym with and start a program. You will keep each other motivated and the program will become routine and just part of your day. A nutritious breakfast and 2 good meals a day should be all you need and the weight will start falling off in no time. I cant emphasize how much having a group of people to train with helps with motivation.

APMerry replied to gmj's topic in Network and Classroom Management
What version of WebPlus is it? You sure its not just a dodgey disc? I didnt have any problems doing the way you've tried installing X4. -

We're rocking HP CP3525 for colour printing. My experience with Samsung hasnt been the best, the Brothers ive used have been okay but HP seem to be the best from my experience.

We just use year of entry, first initial, surname 12JDoe. if there are duplicates we just put a 1 on the end of one of them. Never had more than 2 students with the exact same username. I wouldnt recommend using UPNS as half of them cant even remember their password when its 123.

My old school had this set up years ago and when myself and the current network manager came in we scrapped it. We found the best way was to put everyone on RM and install SIMS on all PCs, this way staff could access SIMS from any PC in school. There isnt really a need to have 2 seperate networks as admin staff can still do everything on a CC4 machine if you give them the correct access. Not sure if this is an option for you but it certainly worked well for us.

Getting somewhere with this now. Something to do with the proxy and client proxy settings on the Citrix Server.
-
Get an error when trying to access the Dektop "citrix receiver could not establish connection with remot host". It works fine from a PC. Using the iPad is a new thing were trying, ive got a call ongoing with RM, was just curious if anyone else had experience problems.

We've found the Epson's to be slightly better quality than the Casio but the Casio are nice to have for high ceilings as ive found them to need a bit less maintainance. Would recommend HDMI as has been said VGA will slowly disapear, but overall i dont think you can go wrong with either brands. If you want the best picture go for the Epsons with high lumens.

Has anyone used CC4Anywhere on an iPad? Im currently playing with it and having a nightmare getting it to work onsite. Would be interesting to know of others experience with it.... Cheers,

I was considering the Galaxy S3 as it looks awesome! I'd never used Android until recently when we got a Samsung Galaxy Tab to have a play with at school. The OS is very good and for us techies its nice to have the freedom to customise and play. Im sure the S3 is even better than the Glaxy Tab. The only stumbling block I found was the lack of support for using a proxy to access the internet. You can browse the web fine but any app that uses the internet (Facebook, Play Store) wont work through a proxy. I cant say this is the same for the S3 but having done quite a bit of research it looks like its just how Android works. You can get round this problem by rooting the device however thats not something i expect to have to do....... im holding out for the iPhone 5.

Google Search Through RM SmartCache
APMerry replied to APMerry's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Thanks for the suggestions guys. Turns out i needed to add a permit rule for google.co.uk/search. Doh -
Bit of a strange problem, has anyone using RM Smartcache had a problem with using google? At the moment no one can search, the website isnt blocked but when you click google search nothing happens. All other search engines work fine and it works if i go through the segfl proxy rather than the smartcache. All suggestions welcome.....

Mission Maker compatibility issue with NetSupport
APMerry replied to APMerry's topic in Educational Software
Seems to have sorted the problem. Thanks very much for your help. -
Mission maker will not work as NetSupport School is disabling direct 3D support. Obviously i need both pieces of software. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I have been in contact with Immersive and they suggested i change the Grpahics registry settings. This fix works however the settings change back after a restart. Any help would be greatly apreciated...... starting to tear my hair out. Cheers
