Ric_ Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 (edited) The day has finally come where my job is up for grabs. It's a regular Network Manager job looking after all the IT and related systems in a largish secondary school and sixth form. The shiny school website at Baines School » Nil Sine Labore will tell you more about the place. As you can imagine, all the usual bells and whistles are in place and things tend to tick along nicely. I've even got cabling diagrams, test results and documentation for things! A quick list of some of the technologies used: Windows - Server 2008R2 and 7 Macs XenServer XenApp Citrix Secure Gateway Sun Rays Systems Center FEP (plus the lovely Sophos for protecting the Macs) Lync - including Enterprise Voice Exchange - with Exchange UM SQL Server SIMS Smoothwall - a very nice UTM BlueSocket managed wireless HP switches throughout EMC AX100s Sun/Oracle S7110s Sun/Oracle SL24 autoloader Approx 350 client devices BYOC scheme for sixth form students It is a very varied job and you will be given quite a bit of freedom to do what you want. Your first job will even be choosing a new apprentice! All the printers are leased and pay-per-click too so if they go wrong you just ring and someone turns up to fix them I cannot confirm payscales or other details yet as the job hasn't been advertised. The post is available from mid-September. If you want to ask any more questions about the set up or school, post questions below. If you think you might be interested, email your CV to [email protected] Could you please keep non-job-related questions in the thread at http://www.edugeek.net/forums/general-chat/80922-ric_-moving-split-job-post.html EDIT - Email address updated since I am no longer there Edited September 20, 2011 by Ric_ Remembered some more shiny tech to list
EduTech Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 This is a very very good oppertunity for someone to get into! Ric_ has some cool technologies and I know that Lync etc. is something that has been setup and is a very cool service! James.
Ric_ Posted August 17, 2011 Author Posted August 17, 2011 Can you PM the range? I wouldn't like to because they may decide to change it. I will know more next week once I have a better chat with the headteacher. I would suggest that you send your CV to register an interest and add a note asking me to send you salary details, etc. as soon as they are available.
oalcock Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Hey Ric, Do you have a rough idea as to when the advert will be live for this job, and if the job will be posted on the school website? Oliver.
Ric_ Posted September 1, 2011 Author Posted September 1, 2011 The school is currently assessing its options so that they end up with the best level of service possible... I'm obviously that amazing they are worried that they won't be able to replace me I suggest sending me your CV to register an interest. I have 8 CVs already.
oalcock Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Many thanks, I will send you my CV tomorrow.

Clearly The Wesfield Centre is cheaper than a new Ric!
AlexB Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Sadly I've only just popped my head up for air after the summer and missed this whole thread! Is the school done and dusted now or is the post still open/under discussion? I'd love to be able to move back closer to home and Lancashire is close enough to Southport for me

Is the school done and dusted now or is the post still open/under discussion? Ric_ Posted September 13, 2011 Author Posted September 13, 2011 The SLT here are finally starting to consider their options so if there are any more interested parties, please drop your CV to me ASAP.
AceDaz Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 The SLT here are finally starting to consider their options so if there are any more interested parties, please drop your CV to me ASAP. When is the closing date? Or have I missed it?
Ric_ Posted September 20, 2011 Author Posted September 20, 2011 AFAIK, no decision has been made so simply send your CV in. I have updated the email address above.
oalcock Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 If/When this job vacancy is due to be advertised, shall I look out on the Baines website? Or Vacancies website... or?.... I have a recent LCC application form which I have filled out for another school, shall I send you this instead of a CV?
Ric_ Posted October 4, 2011 Author Posted October 4, 2011 As I no longer work at the school, I am kind of out the loop. I believe that there wasn't enough shortlisted candidates for interview from the CVs I received so it will be advertised again. For those that are interested, I suggest contacting the school for more details.
EduTech Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Is there any documentation for the network? Ric being who he is, would not have left without leavig any documentation... :-) James.
Dos_Box Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 The job has just been re-advertised: Lancashire County Council's Vacancies Database Note that it says the previous network manager was 'promoted'* Ric tells me they mis-spelt 'escaped'. 1
AlexB Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 I was still keen until I saw the salary range, ah well, maybe the next school...
