  7. Unfortunately it is the Staff shared Start Menu which it is trying to write to, my thoughts are to download the file as normal through the programs update. Then get the staff member to run a script which checks for the presence of the file, run the file as a local power user or admin - this will trick the installer into writing the shortcuts to the local user, then rename the installer to prefix_todays-date. Ideally I would like to compare the current date with the modified date of the installer to see if it is up to date then run it. It will take a bit of fiddling, but it is the only way I can think of the deputy head to update the software himself with not much hassle. I have requested a "Ignore" button when it fails to install any shortcuts.
  8. Hi I am not sure if this is the correct forum, but our deputy head uses October ReSolutions to design the timetable and also for option choices. When he opens it up it prompts for updates, which can update on a regular basis during timetable or option season. When he tries and updates itself, it comes back with a error due to insufficient privileges. I then have to update the software myself for it to work. It is trying to update the shared StartMenu which I have redirected, but I just want the software to create the folders locally and not on the . Does anyone use these programs in their school? Or something which has caused the similar error message? I am keen to get this resolved so that the end user does not have any interruptions when using the software.

  12. I have a feeling that they tested the laptops as well, by plugging the charger into the laptop and the testing device and tested it that way
  13. Hi All I have had a large number of staff come to me complaining that since their laptop was PAT tested a few weeks ago, that their battery life has reduced a lot. Has anyone else experienced reports of these? Many thanks
  14. There isn't any iSCSI links on the storage, its all directly attached to the 2 different chassis.
  15. Put them on the VHDX, what do you mean by that? The SIMS VM is running on Server 2012 R2, I need some way of using the SSDs in my cluster without physically putting them in the VRTX
  16. Hi I have a Dell VRTX 3 blade server as my main virtualised hosts, the VRTX has SAS Drives inside. I wanted to move the SIMS Data onto SSDs, so as part of my new Archival server I put in 4 x 480GB SSDs to run in RAID 10. Has anyone else done it this way? I am looking to work out the best way of presenting the SSDs to the VRTX. Should I present it as a CSV to the Cluster? Therefore store the VHDX on it? Or, should I present it directly to the VM? So the SQL Data files are stored directly on the physical drives? Whichever way, has anyone implemented it this way?
  17. I have printed the ticket off, just need to book my time off now
  18. Its not about the fastest, its about reliability. Samsung have proved that they are reliable.
  19. Not only is there a shortage but those who still have them have put their prices up. Looking at £92 per unit. And I need 61 of them
  20. Prefer the 850 range, i think that the 850 evo is probably still better than the 750
  21. Thanks Arthur for that
  22. I plan to upgrade the HDDs in a class room of PCs, along with admin staff and new staff laptops to SSDs. I wanted the Samsung 256Gb 850 Pro, but suppliers are saying that there isna worldwide shortage. I have been given the choice of Kingston Hyper X Savage SSDs instead. Does anyone have any experience of Kingston? What would you get? The Kingston Hyper X Savage SSDs or the Samsung 850 Evo?
  23. How about a on-premesis Cloud Server? Similar to Dropbox. https://owncloud.org/ I have mine setup with a purchased SSL Certificate, and there is a client you can install to keep everything sync'd as well as accessing it through a web browser
  24. Hi Everyone I bought 20 of the Vostro 260 Desktops about 4 years ago, and I have been asked to add an additional 3 PCs into the classroom. I prefer them to be all the same, but as these are EOL I am struggling with locating them. Does anyone know where I could source 3 x Dell Vostro 260 ST PCs, with: Intel Core i5-2400 Processor (3.10GHz, 6MB) 6Gb RAM 500GB HDD 16X DVD+/-RW Drive Dell E-series E1913 48cm Monitor Warranty, RAM, HDD Space is not as important as the CPU and Monitor I plan to upgrade these with SSDs next summer. Many thanks
  25. Hi I recently migrated our emails from Exchange 2010 on-premises to Office 365 using a hybrid solution by installing an additional Exchange 2013 Server. I then decomissioned the old 2010 Mailbox / Internal CAS and the 2010 External CAS. Staff use the Desktop version of Outlook 2010 and the Pupils use the OWA. I have left the 2013 Exchange server as we have Printers and Servers which require sending out emails, but I have removed the AutoDiscoverUri from the Exchange 2013 Server by running: Set-ClientAccessServer -Identity "EXCHANGE 2013 SERVER NAME" AutoDiscoverServiceInternalUri $NULL The DNS Autodiscover was changed to the Office 365 CNAME entry of autodiscover.outlook.com and the SRV and DNS references to the old Exchange was removed. I have also applied the following registry entries for the staff: ExcludeHttpsRootDomain DWORD:1 ExcludeLastKnownGoodURL DWORD:1 ExcludeSCPLookup DWORD:1 ExcludeSRVRecord DWORD:1 In the following keys: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\AutoDiscover HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\AutoDiscover I have also removed the following Exchange AD Attributes in user AD Accounts: "HomeMDB", $null "HomeMTA", $null "msExchMailboxAuditEnable", $null "msExchAddressBookFlags", $null "msExchArchiveQuota", $null "msExchArchiveWarnQuota", $null "msExchBypassAudit", $null "msExchDumpsterQuota", $null "msExchDumpsterWarningQuota", $null) "msExchHomeServerName", $null "msExchMailboxAuditEnable", $null "msExchMailboxAuditLogAgeLimit", $null "msExchMailboxGuid", $null "msExchMDBRulesQuota", $null "msExchModerationFlags", $null "msExchPoliciesIncluded", $null "msExchProvisioningFlags", $null "msExchRBACPolicyLink", $null "msExchRecipientDisplayType", $null "msExchRecipientTypeDetails", $null "msExchTransportRecipientSettingsFlags", $null "msExchUMDtmfMap", $null "msExchUMEnabledFlags2", $null "msExchUserAccountControl", $null "msExchVersion", $null All the mailboxes are migrated over and I have removed the hybrid. But I am having issues with Outlook 2010 connecting to Office 365. 1. Outlook can sit there for ages showing: 2. Outlook can report that on the bottom right that it is Connecting...but never connects. 3. Outlook reports that it is Offline 4. When adding a new profile into Outlook, it can fail: 5. Outlook says connecting or offline for a long time and then randomly connect. I have run an Outlook Test E-Mail Auto Configuration test from different machines, and it shows this: What confuses me, is that it has picked up a SRV Record from somewhere for our domain. But we use split DNS and internally there are no SRV records apart from the usual: _ldap _kerberos _kpasswd _gc _VLMCS The only other place I can think of is with AD itself, but... I have removed 3 entries in the Configuration > CN=Configuration > CN=Services > CN=Microsoft Exchange > CN=OUR EXCHANGE NAME > CN=Client Access > CN=AutoDiscover > CN=Outlook I have removed entries within the following relating to URLs or Autodiscover: Configuration > CN=Configuration > CN=Services > CN=Microsoft Exchange > CN=OUR EXCHANGE NAME > CN=Administrative Groups > CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FY*************) > CN=Servers > CN=NEW 2013 EXCHANGE SERVER FOR HYBRID Has anyone else come accross this when migrating to Office 365? Any ideas? As this is driving our staff around the bend (including me!!)
