Down a dark alley where over 18's go through the dark door with the ugly doorman, and the chains and whips and the black leather. And SIMS. Or maybe I just wear a tshirt and sit at a desk. Although now I've completely derailed this thread I wonder if I can redeem myself by saying I actually do wear steel-capped boots. In all seriousness they're ace when moving kit around, though I've got into the habit of resting HEAVY stuff on my toes now, which I guess isn't advisable. There's, like, policy against steel-cap boots in some places though?

I can't find the policy after a quick look in our shared area, but I do recall when the new/modified policy was being outlined it did say no steel toe capped boots. However, the policy read very much like it was written mainly for classroom/teaching staff without any thought to us staff that don't really interact with kids much. Realistically I shouldn't just flout the code and I should bring it up with management, saying it's a safety hazard and I should be eligible to wear them. I doubt they'd disagree.

I'd rather that than have to try walking without toes. 1

Or maybe people have just been opening doors with their feet and causing damage? I don't know. I didn't really question it. They'd given me a mandated uniform (polo shirt/workpants) which meant no ties for me, so I wasn't going to rock the boat too much

Doubt anyone realised they weren't normal shoes.

I wouldn't either, but I'd prefer some workers trousers like the site team and maybe a polo shirt. I'm sick of buying cheap suits (I've tried expensive too but they rarely last a few weeks) 1
