Ofsted don't get out much!

They were referring to our website here Prenton High School for Girls

i like it, and the content seems good - there are some rough sites out there.

I think it delivers relevant information in an easily accessible format. The design/look may not be bang up to date, but it probably fulfills the criteria OFSTED are looking for in a school website, which is to inform.

I am guessing you decided to go cheap and not let frog do it? We have just gone frog and compared the sites of those who didnt pay for Frog to design it and at those where Frog did.... big difference. Having our 1st design meeting come tomorrow.

When we first got frog we had a seperate website and then about 6months later the web-hosting and design company went bust so we made our own with frog...its better than the old one was, i'll be glad when its gone at christmas though

@reggiep: The site has a few niggles with the design (stray lines and bullet points?) but it's fast, clean, simple and shows all of the information that OFSTED were looking for. They've probably seen some very fancy, expensive, all singing and all dancing websites but deemed them as poor for being useless.

My main issue with the site is the fact that it's had a huge BASE64 injection attack at somepoint that's dropped a huge pile of spam in the page headers... just hit view source on it.

...and there's a lot more of it than I've quoted... EduGeek restricts post lengths...

 

So, the site has been exploited via an open form input box... insufficent sanetizing going on somewhere... you need to tear thru the entire server... preferably, flatten and install from known clean backups, as you don't know what else has been injected and where (eg: IRC Daemon running from tmp etc etc). It's showing up on every page in the source... am guessing it's either your "Contact Us" page or your login page that needs it's code reinspecting. It's definitely going to be a publically accessible form input somewhere on the site.

 

Fortunately your CSS prevents the above dross from displaying when the page is rendered in the browser, otherwise I think OFSTED may have had a VERY different reaction to it's content.

Yep we were hacked the day before OFSTED turned up!

 

We are hosted externally and we managed to get the site back up again from backups.

 

The problem i have is I have no idea how to clean it all up again.

 

I'm hoping to move to Joomla 1.6 over the summer.

Download the entire site's source into a folder on your machine... load up Dreamweaver (if you have it), set up a site in there, with your local path as the site source, then you can do a find/replace on the entire site's source code for the common URL found in the links... remove it manually from each page... check all include files also as it's probably it's included in a header file that is used sitewide, hence it ends up on every page.

 

Was any work done to resecure the site after restoring from backups? Otherwise, the hole they exploited is still there waiting to be exploited again... Personally, I'd abandon waiting til summer and move to the latest Joomla release asap to ensure any recent security holes are closed.

 

Your next problem is: is that source code featured in the backups? If not, the site's been hacked again since to put it there. If they could inject code into pages, you need to check all form inputs as it could be logging and forwarding all login credentials used... potentially you've got a huge security risk there. Either find and fix the issue, or take the site offline temporarily until you can get a GUARANTEED clean site up there.

Your two ski pictures on the front page desperately need to be resized! They are currently full res and a 3.3 meg download each.

I installed all the updates that were not installed, which included a security fix that I didn't know should have been installed.

1.6 has some quirks so working through them before committing!

What do you use to alter the font size?

Judging from the design I'd say by using the bees template which comes with a font re-sizer?. I've used MakeMeAccessible module in the past but it seems to have been discontinued.

I use Front End Font Size Adjuster by Florida Web host, which also appears to have have been discontinued. It did once work with %, px and pt, but for some reason is now broken. It adjusts the line spacing but nothing else.

I think I still have the zip file for MakeMeAccessible and while not everything seems to work, the text adjuster seems to work ok. Send me a PM if you would like a copy.
