featured_spectre Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Depends on the establishment...sometimes blue if i know the place, sometimes rare if its a recommended place, otherwise medium if I dont know the place
teejay Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 (edited) Depends on the cut of the steak, a fillet generally blue rare/rare through to medium for a rib-eye as they take a bit more cooking due to fat content. Edited April 30, 2011 by teejay
john Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Haha this is always a good one for Edugeek's, especially @vikpaw hey Vik Mooooooo hehehe muhahahahaha As for my choice Medium Well or Well Done depending on how I'm feeling
witch Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 How do I like my steak?...still on the animal rather than dead on my plate.. (sorry, but there ALWAYS has to be an outraged vegetarian in this sort of thing ) 2
Netman Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 How do I like my steak?...still on the animal rather than dead on my plate.. (sorry, but there ALWAYS has to be an outraged vegetarian in this sort of thing ) +1 Well said!
elsiegee40 Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 I like mine medium rare, but so many places overcook steak that I frequently ask for rare in the UK. The only establishments that understand blue is different to raw are either in France or can cook steak how I like it anyway.

BTW, I like mine Medium Rare with Peppercorn Sauce Edited May 1, 2011 by Gatt
LeMarchand Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Medium well here, but echoing what others have said few places seem to get a steak order correct: that order can get you anything from rare to charcoal.
maniac Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 A good friend of my dads likes his steak pretty much blue. As he says, knock it's horns off, wipe it's a**e and stick it on a plate. Me personally I like medium rare, but often order rare because they are always overcooked. Best steak I've ever had was in a little pub in the new forest, they cooked it perfectly and it was a really nice steak with a lot of flavour. One guy in the place was complaining about it because it had a strong flavour and he insisted the meat was off - poor bloke had obviously never had a decent steak before. I felt sorry for the chef trying to explain that's how it's supposed to taste, and your average supermarket or wholesale brought meat just doesn't taste the same.
jamesb Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 How do I like my steak?...still on the animal rather than dead on my plate.. (sorry, but there ALWAYS has to be an outraged vegetarian in this sort of thing ) That's a little too rare for me. At least walk the cow past a radiator before putting it on the plate. Blue for me, always, if I can get it.
bossman Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 "Porterhouse blue" is how I like my steak, in fact just lop off the horns, wipe its ar*e and put it on the plate
clareq Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Chefs I know tell me that they keep the best steak for those who ask for blue, those who like well done get the stuff the dog won't eat!
Sylv3r Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Well done, burnt, cremated = all of the above! One of these days I'll try it a little less done, but it's the thought of sticking my knife into it and blood pouring out that puts me right off! 1
vikpaw Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 Well done, burnt, cremated = all of the above! One of these days I'll try it a little less done, but it's the thought of sticking my knife into it and blood pouring out that puts me right off! I used to be like that, but then i went to Argentina and ordered it 'blackened' and they nearly slapped me in the face with the steak. It is some of the best steak in the world, and even the dregs of the butcher shop was some of the nicest succelent meat i've tasted, 2 inch thick slab cooked medium was delish. In the UK, i prefer a hint of pink , but often ask for well done as it's so poorly cooked as @john @nephilim @plexer et al will attest to, i don't have the best of luck with steak. The best thing for me here in Saudi, and i think i saw one place in the UK is a thing called a black rock, where you get a slab of granite heated to 400 degrees C at your table, and given a raw piece of steak, i go for Tenderloin then can cook each bite perfectly how you like. That i can eat medium or even medium rare if i'm daring. Best £15 i could spend at the local SteakHouse.
plexer Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 lol it wasn't just how it was cooked though. I think the piece you ended up with came out of the dogs bowl mate. Ben
