Same here ideally. However, if no-one had done any research on it, would we have known about it? Probably not unless we read the T&Cs (99.999999% probably don't - I don't have any hard statistics, but who's read 35 page T&Cs of any electronic product in detail?). This is the issue with big corporations. We have no idea what affiliations they have with certain governments/authorities over the world. We can only assume it's only for research data they need to improve their products as stated in their T&Cs. Hopefully this will get them to at encrypt the data in future if they're desperate for the data. I do have to take TechMonkey's stance and agree the whole issue gets blown out of proportion when certain media journalists get hold of this sort of thing. Especially against Apple. It's like they're only company that make mobile phones .

Thanks for posting it. That information above shows nothing as you say because it doesn't include the timestamps. As long as this data doesn't touch Apple servers, then I'm happy. With reference to Arthur's post, I'm not surprised at all. I'd be more worried as an Android user and they're a lot more of them! Google are much more hungry with personal data, and this isn't the first time either for them (Wi-Fi data when they were taking their street map photos). I'm sure they're collecting data while I use gMail too, but the sacrifice for using one of the best online e-mail services cannot be missed. As long as my iPhone/iPad geo data doesn't move, I'd be happy. It's just another typical Apple melodrama from people who like to dislike them and want to put them in flames. Especially when they're continuing to take market share and grow in popularity.

I'm not entirely surprised by this at all. I'd be pretty sure to find a similar file on Android/RIM/Windows Phone devices as well as I'd be sure the same or similar T&C's are there across the board. I'd love to know why it's there though. This article is great for anti-apple people though. Anything against them like this a huge bomb to them to reiterate their hate. If you were a criminal, you'd know this information already or wouldn't use an iPhone to start off with. I know I haven't done anything wrong or been anywhere I shouldn't of been, so I'm not that worried.

Very true. It's that thing where class sizes has a detrimental effect on performance depending on where the priority lies. If teachers are asked to push students who are behind in a large class size (~30), it will benefit them to catch-up but leave the students ahead to slip back and gives an average set of results across the board. If there's less students in a class, then it gives teachers more one-on-one time to push their ability to the next level. I always found being in middle set classes during GCSE (especially Maths), I always excelled because I got much more specialised teaching to my pace of work. As soon as I went up to the higher group (who could achieve As and A*s where the medium classes could only go up to B), I stayed where I was because I wasn't getting the level of teaching I needed to reach those grades and slipped back. Failure is the only way to recognise you need to work harder. That's been the case for me with my Autism and I'm now moving to work in the city for a new challenge. No doubt I'll trip once or twice, but it's certainly got me ahead of my peers who went through university.

We've stuck with it from 2006 and my only main two issues were the initial setup with clients (especially when we moved over to Vista/7) and version 9 (not 9.5) was terrible (and crashed an awful lot). A lot of corporates are still with version 7, but that retired at the end of last month. The console is extremely good now and logs things properly once you have the correct services open on all workstations (easily configured with group policy). I've not worked with any others professionally but I don't think Sophos is as bad as people make it out to be here. It is power hungry at times; but now we've gone through our next cycle, that isn't an issue. The basic fact is that they all have their pro's and con's.

Or MS have the noddle to make a tablet OS from scratch. A desktop OS is never going to win any hearts. The biggest issue going back to the OP; are there any education application writers making apps for the iOS devices? I know you don't have to install apps through the store as the iPhone Configuration Utility will allow to upload custom applications.

I can see why people don't always take to him, but it's his style and he's probably one of a bunch on radio at the moment that knows how radio works and properly present a very entertaining radio show. It's his radio persona and it works. I've not yet to meet him in real life yet but I've heard from people who have met him, he's a very nice chap. I always remember his afternoon shows from the early naughties and became a fan then. I got the sense he loved broadcasting outside of the breakfast hours as the reigns seemed to have been let go a bit. Well done to him though! £2,500,000 is a lot to raise in 50 hours! Especially when most of those are £1 texts. I think there's more time for him at Radio 1 yet (regardless the hysteria The Daily Mail seems to live on when reporting he's being replaced every 6 months - I'm sure Radio 1 put out false tips to DM journos to create a bit of publicity because they're gulleble enough to take it!)

Very true. I've not played with any Windows 7 tablets, but I have played with a touch-screen based Windows 7 desktop. I can't remember the manufacturer of the screens, but I didn't understand why they made the edge of the screen stick out so you couldnt click the corners properly? Very annoying when it isn't flush. We're possibly going down the iPad route as a trial with our prep school (infant and junior kids). We liked the 12 or 14 unit storage case as linked in a previous post. Going through all the infrastructure, there really isn't much apart from ensuring wireless is available in the areas you want to use them in. Our idea is to put them in the library initially and then locking them down. This is possible with the iPhone Configuration Utility. You can make quick changes by passwording the profile. There's an idea we'll setup a mini-web server that'll host these configuration files too so we can chop and change them. Personally, I'm keeping with my original iPad through the iPad 2 life and wait for the iPad 3 to drop . I love the fact I don't have to lug around my laptop everywhere in the house. I use it naked and keep it safe in a leather case. Nice to take around when travelling around. General web browsing, reading books, writing blogs etc; it's a very useful tool.

3G doesn't work across both yet. As CHR1S calculated, it's always worth buying the iPad on it's own with a seperate contract. All the mobile phone companies are doing is allowing you to subsidise the iPad over a longer period. I've currently got the original iPad on a 1-month rolling 1GB Contract from 3. I'll probably wait until the release of iPad 3 so I can at least pass on my original iPad to someone I know than sell it on eBay.

Why make up a conspiracy theory? That's hole is for the light sensor. It's not even big enough to house a camera CCD. No company designs things and then removes parts at the last minute. It would cost them more to modify a production line at the last minute. The original iPad was designed to test the market, so I guess the thought of a camera wasn't necessary until Apple saw the product was successful and FaceTime was becoming popular.

I'd love to know why you consider them not to be "premium products". Just curious really although I appreciate your opinion. When look at each angle for premium quality; the chassis' are top quality (how many chassis' are made of pure aluminium?) hardware is well ahead of the top consumer CPUs for PCs (I'm talking more about their Mac Pro desktops - I'll admit the MacBook Pro, Mac Mini and iMac's are consumer orientated and don't exceed spec against most of the PC market) although personally, the OS side of things is easy peasy top to toe. Considering my aunt who's an amateur computer user managed to put together and setup an iMac from scratch without my help. Even getting the iMac onto the internet and setting up e-mail. They're just a few examples, but the reason I think we're not seeing the desktops/laptops coming down in price is because they're making a fortune on the iPhone/iPad/iTouch and App Stores. There's no need to bring any price down and they have to bridge a gap between the PC market and themselves. Apple products are different and if you want one, you have to pay for it. They accept they won't be able to saturate the PC market and steal sales from Microsoft on an OS level. One more thing, even Samsung have just pulled plans for their 10" Galaxy tab in the light of the iPad 2. Key reason; pricing. If we consider Apple products to be premium, how can Samsung defend pricing their products £150+ more than the highest spec iPad. That's an estimate anyhow. But it's made the whole market rethink again for sure some thought the iPad 2 would go up in price.

I would give an Apple Store a ring or the technical/or sales support line to clarify. I've seen that info go around the MacRumor forums and it's been done with the iPhone or iTouch before when people have bought the older product so close to the new release. It's £510 now after the VAT hike. Comparing the £399 and £510 prices - £100 extra is well worth it. It pays for the Apps store hosting, MobileMe 'Find My iPhone' is included now and is very good at shutting down a lost phone, constant iOS updates, the Mac shops and their excellent non-sense support (especially for the first year warranty and just having to arrive at a store - rather than sending the phone somewhere by post), the extra development into the next phone. Pays more than just the hardware you see. The engineering and design as I keep saying surpasses the Desire HD (even though I do admire that phone and seen it in action) IMO. Also, what phone around the 400/500 quid mark gives you a 300PPI screen? (I refuse to say retina screen as that's just a marketing term). Another thing, your SD card can broken in many ways if you decided to pop it in and out all the time. Big minus!

Have you bought it in the last 14 days? You can get the £100 difference back if you go into the shop AFAIK. Actually, the lazy about with an iPad is perfect choice. Can spend hours on YouTube and various other blogger sites effortlessly.

You won't want to buy a brand new original iPad (which is still competitive at £329 for the Wi-Fi / 16GB model). I'd say it's fair to quote both right now when the new one is about to ship. What netbooks give you touch-screen at that price and an interface as good as the iOS does? That's just something to think about. People get distorted at MegaPixels, phones don't need 8MP - they need better CCDs. The iP4's 5MP is good enough for me. Flash - leave that to desktops/laptops which can take advantage of that tech. Changable Battery/Expandable Memory - personally, batteries don't bother me. isn't 16GB/32GB enough though? Proper techies can't enough with slower SDHC cards I suppose. App's? You can make apps and use them without using the store. I admit that's more for corporate use, but why would you want instability with external apps outside of the store and possibly posing security risks when it doesn't go through checking? Just questions in counter-argument. Not saying you're wrong, but it's a phone (calls/texts/e-mail's matter to me) and extras do better than all the phones I've owned in the past or seen. I'll admit I didn't like the iPhone 3GS/3G/Original. On the price point - it's a balance. You pay more for the engineering or you pay less for a possibly better spec'd product but isn't packaged very well. Day to day use, the extra premium is worth it.

I love all the Anti-Apple comments in here. Just shows the out-of-depth knowledge and closed-mindedness of those people (or any sort of jealousy with Apple kit being premium devices). I personally won't fight with their opinions, because the fact it's their opinion. I'll quite happily try and change or show a different perspective. I admit there a few that will use Apple as a coat of being able to show-off, but don't tarnish all Apple users with the same brush. It amazes me the one person we have that's like that (who's from Marketing) won't stop going on about, but doesn't actually own any Mac devices apart from an iPhone. When she discovered I had a MacBook Pro (which was used to record a choir using Logic - she was involved in this), she put on a fake surprise that I'd bought it just because I was a AppleBoi. No. I chose to buy one because I'd preferred the Mac OS X interface for my day-to-day needs (after I'd had the chance to configure them in our new IT suite), they much more cleverly engineered and are worth value for money if you use laptops all the time. I made a technical choice rather than a fashion one. Back on topic. Apple will now always be ahead with a version of the iPad product after being the first to start off the tablet trend again. It was quite amusing that Steve pointed out all the copycats and personally, I think most of them are. Same basic design, same basic UI and same basic software infrastructure. I think there's a lot of snobbery going on when someone has a negative opinion which is extremely harsh. I think those people haven't used one. I was in the "bigger iPhone" camp until I played with one in the shop. As they rightly said in one of the promo videos, you have to use one to understand it. The new iPad is a stop gap to get the design/tech specs one step ahead knowing all the vaporware (Motorola, Blackberry, HP) alternatives have spoken their voice about the next tablet they have to offer, but haven't released them yet. Pointless IMHO. On first impressions, I'm impressed about how they've reduced the size and the cleverness of the new smart cover (people will think this is pointless until you've owned a first edition iPad - ALL the covers add unnecessary weight and bulk). I'm not keen on the shape of the rear, but I guess my opinion will be distorted until I use one. However, my original iPad won't get replaced until the 3rd one appears (that's if iOS 5 is compromised on the first version iPad). As I've always said, don't judge a book by its cover . Fair enough, but what features are missing that doesn't make it a good phone/communication device? People fail to see the premium engineering Apple products offer rather than be ridiculed by every new feature that people fail to use properly as it has limited use or feasibility. New refurbished iPad 1 at £289? Who says they're too expensive?

We've had at least 7 infections (personal computers and 2 on-site computers) in the last week. All have come through a Java exploit (.jar files stored in the temp files) and deployed the System Tool 2011 fake agent. A full scan using Malwarebytes has cleared them all (except for one which had it's boot-up corrupted). All have mentioned Hotmail. I know several sites are affected by this, but we've taken action by blocking Hotmail as it's heavily used and don't want any more infections until things calm down. Even though this ad servers have been reported to be cleared, it's still happening.

Not noticed this but Hotmail has been mentioned everytime we've spoken to each user who's had there machine hijacked by this virus. Didn't notice the above thread. Will read and contribute there .

We've had 3 staff personal computers, a couple of student laptops and 2 on-site computers get hijacked with this virus in the last week. All of the on-site machines accessed hotmail before getting infected and from researching this, it's coming through an advert on the hotmail website. You don't even need to click the advert as the virus executes via a Java/Javascript vulnerability. There's also a PDF vulnerability this virus can take advantage as well. There are reports other sites are infected too through the same type of advert. I'm unsure of these though. It effects all Windows XP, Vista and 7. The only way we've been able to remove the virus use the Malwarebytes' Tool. The instructions in the forum post below work 100%. The tool needs to be run in the user account it's hijacked. However, we've seen one computer corrupt itself as the virus had time to completely ruin the boot-up and then we had to rebuild it from scratch. It might be worth warning staff who have home computers that could be at risk. Unfortunately, it's bypassed Sophos Anti-Virus (due to the nature of how the virus renames itself everytime it excutes after a reboot) and it cannot be detected outside of the user account it's hijacked.

I'm a bloke, but interesting to read the routes the ladies have taken! I'm a non-uni techie. Always had an interest (being Autistic helped!). Finished with good A-Levels including the best IT grade (Double-Award AB grade in Vocational IT) and then went down the apprenticeship route (wouldn't ever recommend it though!). Blasted through 6 months of the Level 2 NVQ in IT Practitioner course while earning £80/week at the school I'm still working at now. Promoted twice up to Network & Systems Administrator role and still here 5 years down the line. Almost completed my Cisco CCNA course now and looking to move on into commercial/and/or the City. Have no MCSEs/MCSAs. Might have to just do the exams to get them on my CV if interviews don't come by . We need more ladies in IT for definite!

Ditto here! Our main server hasn't been updated, but by the looks of all the R2 servers running in Hyper-V off of it, they all updated with no problems (only thing is that it takes an hour and more to update!). Glad none of them are functioning servers yet and are in testing (with our new network array storage) with preparation to go live over the Easter holidays.

Quite understandable as we have the same thing, but have you looked at hardware that's compatible with Windows 7 Virtualisation and run the programs in XP-Mode? We waited 6 months for our gym software company to upgrade their software to Windows 7. They almost had the cheek to charge us for the upgrade when we highlighted the problem within our first 1 year support period and promised it would work. XP-Mode would of worked in the interim if we'd done our research to get the right hardware to run Windows 7 Virtual PC. However, we had to keep down to Vista until it was sorted.
