Sophos AV costs

Hey Guys,

 

Anyone using Sophos at their site and happy to list the costs?

 

We currently run CA eTrust provided by our LA and becoming an Academy will allow us to move away to something reliable.

 

In fact, any costs for any AV solutions would be appreciated.

Sophos cost scale depending on what you bundle and how many years you sign up for. It's not cheap I think we are looking at around 8k for endpoint and email for 3 years renewal for our site.

We got BitDefender for 3 years inc support and exchange email protection for 500 machines for just over £2k.

It all depends on number of clients and length of contract.

 

Eset cost me under 2 grand for 500 clients on a 1 yeat deal.

 

Will be looking at forefront under ees this year.

Cheers for the info guys. So you reckon that a decent endpoint solution can be obtained for around £2000? Have had lots of good experience of Sophos in the past but don't think I could budget for £8000 Tallwood, although I'm imaging your site is pretty extensive??

 

Would defo be interested in how Forefront costs up under EES? Will put the call into our reseller tomorrow and let you know...

Have you considered having a look at NOD32 They offer some good discounts at the moment on Edu Pricing! Might be worth a look at to be fair ESET is pretty good AV from what i have used of it and i know some people use it on here.

We renewed our contract with Sophos about 18 months ago, however prior to contacting them we spoke to several other companies (NOD32 especially). Once Sophos knew we'd been looking at other solutions their price came down massively! Well worth tryign as certainly 18 months ago they seemed pretty desperate for business.

We were getting it for Free via the LA. The LA is stopping that this FY but has negotiated a good deal on the price - best check with your LA to see if they have a similar deal?

AVG are doing a business package that will cost me the same for 3 years as I pay to Mcafee for 1 year.

 

They're doing a bunch of deals to get there, the important one being 3 years for the price of 2.

 

Currently I pay Mcafee about £2800 for upto 1000 "nodes" per year

AVG will charge about £1400 for 700 computers (I have about 670, but they sell then in blocks of 25).

 

They will also:

1. send a man in to install

2. buy you out of the remainder of your existing contract...

We have moved from Panda, which was the cheapest AV (even cheaper than Sophos) to Forefront Endpoint Protection from MS. Due to the infrastructure that we have in place already, it only costed us 0.90p per client per year (and with EES, it's bound to be cheaper this year). So for our AV, it cost us £606.60 per year for 674 clients.

 

However, it did take a lot to get SCCM working properly for the AV, plus the time it is taking to replace the AV (there is no automatic removal of Panda via the MS product, so it's taking us twice as long). Last thing, planning is essential when moving from one system to another.

Yep, we have just been quoted around £300 for our site to run Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection which price-wise blows all of the other out of the water. Are currently trying to to get it working with SCCM which is proving far harder than we imagined........we will succeed tho!!!! Especially at that price!!

If anyone has the CHEST agreement, you can get Sophos VERY cheap. We recently got 1000 machines for 3 years for the cost of less than one year.

Check what your MS licensing is. From August Forefront is included with EES CoreCALs, you might not need to pay anything extra at all if you are already looking at EES.

It wont help just going to several resellers asking for quotes for the same product.

 

Unfortunately Sophos like so many other Vendors have Reseller agreements that include Deal Registration..

Once a "Deal" has been registered with a particular reseller it's very hard to get a decent quote for the same product elsewhere on the same said product!

 

However, if you get a "Competetive" product quote from another reseller say Norton and its significantly cheaper the Reseller can return to his Sophos Team and get a much more competetive deal.

 

Many of the LEA/RBC deals that have been brokered to include Sophos have caveats in that the LEA/RBC is supposed to provide the support and Update Distribution points thus reducing the Sophos Bandwidth costs allowing the lower pricing deals. So if your LEA isnt providing the service you have little choice other than to go it alone.

 

The MSP's such as Eduserv, Atomwide, Ramasys all negotiate CHEST agreements and these are arguably cheaper than most off the shelf agreements but not always a straight forwards as they might initially seem.

For years the LGfL Sophos users where 6-12 Months behind in version releases of Sophos (although this has been resolved for now)

And some of the "Collective Purchased" agreements do not have all of the features such as PureMessage should you want to use it.

 

As always it comes back to you get what you pay for, if you want to get the cheapest deal you need to do all of the leg work and negotiate a bargain..

Otherwise you let your reseller do all the work and pay a premium so that you can get on and do what your best at!

 

As a new Academy I would have thought that one of the MSP's would have been all over you by now...

Good News! Endpoint has been included in EES CoreCAL so we can get the client for free. Now need to look at how we deploy and update - SCCM managed or simply include client in our PC image and try to manage its updates....
